It’s no surprise that working from home has been popular for many workers, but it hasn’t been a win for every profession across the board. Glassdoor recently surveyed workers to determine how important remote work was to them as a benefit, and how employees across various levels of seniority and various occupations view their experiences working from home. In general, the survey found that the ability to work from home was among the top three benefits for more than two-thirds (68%) of the respondents. Remote work was only a few percentage points behind vacation and paid time off in popularity, which 71% of respondents found important, and health insurance, which was a top-three benefit for 69% of respondents. Working from home—or WFH for short—has particularly been a hit with a few specific professions, according to the Glassdoor survey. Here are the top 10 professions, ranked by how satisfied employees were with working from home: Social Worker Customer … [Read more...] about Tired of the office? Globe keeps diversity and gender balance strong with women in leadership team
Globe is setting a new trend with women outnumbering their male counterparts in leadership positions. This comes at a time when most Philippine boardrooms are still dominated by men. Some 52% of Globe’s executive roster are women, with 49 holding the top two ranks in the corporate hierarchy, compared to 45 men as of end 2022. This marks the first time in at least five years that there were more female executives in Globe’s core business. Women ranked managers and directors have also been increasing in the last five years, rising from 958 in 2018 to 1,193 as of end 2022. Even while there are still more men in middle management, the female population is catching up. These figures buck the trend as cited in a March 2019 study by the Makati Business Club that was supported by UN Women, the European Union and Women Empower Asia. The study “Women in the Philippine C-Suite” found that only about three percent of C-Suite positions in business across the country are … [Read more...] about Globe keeps diversity and gender balance strong with women in leadership team

Image: Richard Shotwell/Invision/AP LOS ANGELES — Jennifer Aniston calls it “amazing” that “Friends” still has an audience big enough to prompt multi-million dollar business deals to keep it from disappearing on Netflix. “I find it amazing that it’s continued to have such love and such an audience and such an appetite for it,” Aniston told The Associated Press Thursday at the premiere of her Netflix film “Dumplin”. After an outcry from fans, Netflix announced earlier in the week that it was keeping the adventures of Ross, Rachel, Phoebe and Joey available to subscribers through 2019 — at a reported $100 million (around P5.2 billion) price tag to the streaming service. Friends. Image: Warner Bros. TV via AFP Relaxnews Enormously popular 1990s and 2000s sitcom “Friends” is to remain available on streaming service Netflix until 2020, after which point it may well end up on WarnerMedia’s upcoming platform. Airing from 1994 to 2004 on NBC, Netflix had acquired “Friends” as the result of an online streaming deal that began January 1, 2015. Fans had been preparing to lose all ten seasons when, over the weekend, the Netflix page for “Friends” began warning users that the show would disappear from Jan. 1, 2019. That’s no longer the case, if it ever was, with Netflix confirming via Twitter that “‘Friends’ will still be there for you in the U.S. throughout 2019.” The Holiday Armadillo has granted your wish: “Friends” will still be there for you in the US throughout 2019 pic.twitter.com/Yd0VqRzk3r — Netflix US (@netflix) December 3, 2018 International branches of the streaming giant echoed the sentiment. [Editorial] A critical leadership vacuum at KT
But the group is still mired in a war of nerves with the government over management affairs. Former CEO Koo Hyun-mo was appointed under the liberal Moon Jae-in administration. But he gave up a bid for another term under pressure from the conservative Yoon Suk Yeol administration. Yun’s withdrawal underscores how the KT management remains under political influence. As Koo’s term ends at the end of March, KT could be doing business without CEO for a while. Finding the next candidate for the top post is not easy. The government opposed Yun as the new head of KT, not to mention three other candidates shortlisted by the KT board of directors. The government more or less displayed its disapproval of the current KT management, accusing it of being “a cartel group.” While resigning from the nomination, Yun said that the new CEO should be able to improve the governance structure that can exceed the expectations of major stakeholders. Given that Yun’s nomination was approved by minority … [Read more...] about [Editorial] A critical leadership vacuum at KT
EXCLUSIVE: House Republicans Urge Pentagon To Fire Doctors Who Appeared To Promote Sex-Change Operations For Children
Republicans in the House of Representatives, led by Illinois Rep. Mary Miller, are calling for the firing of four Department of Defense (DOD)-affiliated doctors who appeared to advocate for sex-change procedures for children as young as seven years old. Drs. David Klein, Thomas Baxter and Natasha Schvey are all physicians at Travis Air Force Base in California, while Dr. Noelle Larson works at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The four wrote in an article for the American Journal of Public Health that “ children can begin participating in their medical decision-making as early as age seven years” and that “youths … have an inherent ability and right” to hormones and sex-change operations. The doctors add that providing hormones and sex-change operations for minors can improve force readiness, so military doctors should be trained in the field. “If DOD advocates for the chemical castration of 7 – year – old children to … [Read more...] about EXCLUSIVE: House Republicans Urge Pentagon To Fire Doctors Who Appeared To Promote Sex-Change Operations For Children
The Century Cures Act Is A Needless Waste
House leadership may bring H.R. 6, the 21st Century Cures Act, to the floor after next week’s House recess. The bill doesn’t cure a thing, except, perhaps momentarily, the appetite of the federal leviathan to grow. H.R. 6 deepens the federal government’s involvement in medicine, a role that the Founding Fathers wisely left to the states and the people through the Tenth Amendment. The legislation is well-intentioned, but turns federalism on its head and spends a massive amount of money with dubious offsets. H.R. 6 is a 309 page bill that attempts to accomplish quite a bit. The bill’s goals include promoting personalized medicine, improving the clinical trials process, making the regulatory path clearer for medical apps, creating economic incentives for the development of drugs for rare diseases, improving, “the entire biomedical ecosystem ensuring the innovation infrastructure works as quickly and efficiently as possible.” Oh, it is also a “ jobs bill .” Somewhere in the … [Read more...] about The Century Cures Act Is A Needless Waste
GOP Senator Blocking Pentagon Promotions Over Abortion Policy
Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama is single-handedly holding up confirmations of top Department of Defense (DOD) positions over what he calls executive overstep into Congress’ jurisdiction over abortion policies, according to the senator and media reports. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin declared in February that the department would provide leave and funding for military personnel to travel out of state for abortions if they are based in a state that bans or heavily restricts the procedure. Tuberville said he plans to continue blocking about 160 promotions of military commanders to key positions in the Indo-Pacific and Middle East and for NATO until DOD reverses the policy and shows no sign of letting up, according to Punchbowl News and Tuberville. “I hate to have to do this. It’s unfortunate. But we make the laws over here. The DoD doesn’t. This is not about abortion. It’s about taxpayer-funded abortions,” Tuberville told Punchbowl. “If this was about a list … [Read more...] about GOP Senator Blocking Pentagon Promotions Over Abortion Policy
