Tax rebate for working at home

How to talk to your boss about working too much

December 13, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

When the pandemic hit and we all experienced a wave of uncertainty about how companies and jobs would fare in the fallout, workers buckled down and got things done. For many, that meant working longer hours. Remote employees worked an average of 2.5 hours longer per day in the U.S. and UK during the pandemic, according to a survey by cybersecurity platform NordLayer. And a 2021 study published in Nature Human Behavior found that remote workers are staying connected to work 10% longer than pre-pandemic. And the fallout can be serious. Research from Eagle Hill Consulting, LLC found that nearly half of employees are burned out from their work. A 2021 World Health Organization and International Labor Organization study found that long work hours (55 hours per week or more) contributed to more than three-quarters of a million deaths in 2016. Overwork is taking a toll mentally, physically, and creatively, says Sarah Deane, cofounder and CEO of MEvolution, a business … [Read more...] about How to talk to your boss about working too much

[Meanwhile] ‘No work, no pay’ for lawmakers, too (KOR)

March 23, 2023 by koreajoongangdaily.joins.com

SOHN HAE-YONG The author is the economic news editor of the JoongAng Ilbo. Korean lawmakers get some of the best treatments in the world. Last year, each member of the National Assembly was paid 154.26 million won ($117,900) before taxes, including salary and activity allowance. In terms of per capita GDP, Japan and Italy are the only countries that give higher salaries to lawmakers than their Korean counterparts. On top of that, lawmakers are provided with extra expenses, including business expenses, gasoline subsidies and trip expenses. Each lawmaker has nine aids. All together, one lawmaker costs 756 million won a year. The money is deposited into the account of lawmakers every month even if they do not engage in parliamentary activities. It is entirely paid by taxpayers’ money. Though lawmakers are paid a salary equivalent to the labor cost of a good medium-sized business, their productivity is very low. The approval rate of bills proposed in the 21st National Assembly is … [Read more...] about [Meanwhile] ‘No work, no pay’ for lawmakers, too (KOR)

Make this radical change to your to-do list

October 30, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

Last summer, a friend of mine was about to leave on a trip for Mexico when she realized that her passport had expired. One round-trip flight and hundreds of dollars in fees later, and she got the expedited renewal before her trip. But the secondhand anxiety was enough for me to go immediately check my own passport. Expiration: April 2029. I should be good, right? For now, yes. But when—or maybe if, at this rate—2029 rolls around, I could be in exactly the same position as my friend. So, I created a calendar event called “1 year till passport expires” and set it for April 2028. A to-do list doesn’t do the trick for every task Yes, I could have added “renew passport” to my to-do list and set a deadline or a reminder. On many apps, I could have even hidden the task from view until it was time to do it. But do I really want a task that’s not coming up for another half a decade to live in my to-do list? No, I do not. I do have a personal to-do list (in Google … [Read more...] about Make this radical change to your to-do list

What Leadership Lessons From Lockdown Still Apply Today?

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Three years ago today, then prime minister Boris Johnson announced the first nationwide lockdown in the U.K., with the aim of curbing the outbreak of Covid-19. Leaders whose lives had previously been defined by the 7am train, takeaway cappuccinos and water cooler chats suddenly found themselves plunged into the world of hybrid working, home schooling and Zoom meetings. For many, this period of upheaval came with both pros and cons. On the one hand, leaders were suddenly handed freedom and flexibility while being simultaneously released from the arduousness of the morning commute. On the other, they battled loneliness and spent increasingly long hours chained to their laptops as work life blurred into home life, with delivery of the odd science lesson thrown in along the way. Overall, the pandemic is an era that most leaders will be glad to have left behind. But what important leadership lessons from that time can we still … [Read more...] about What Leadership Lessons From Lockdown Still Apply Today?

The mindset shift you need in order to stop your inner voice from sabotaging you

March 22, 2023 by www.fastcompany.com

One of my favorite lines in a song comes from—wait for it—Katy Perry’s Roar : “I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything,” which is a cue for my youngest daughter to sprint to her costume pile, and the rest of my family to start dancing like crazy around our house. Anytime I am in a situation where I feel like keeping my hand down instead of raising it or swallowing a comment because I felt like my voice wasn’t the most important one in the room, I remember that line. If you don’t stand up for yourself, you are allowing someone else to choose your path. It’s only when you find your voice and stand your ground that you realize you always had the ability to do it, you just had to stand up for yourself. As often happens in my life, I learned this lesson the hard way, as a charity auctioneer. Tell me if this sounds familiar. You walk into a meeting filled with people of all ages and genders. This scenario doesn’t have to be in an office, it could be a classroom, a … [Read more...] about The mindset shift you need in order to stop your inner voice from sabotaging you

These 5-to-9 habits could be hurting your 9-to-5 productivity

November 28, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

Most of us are looking for ways to simplify and streamline our workday. I’ve written countless articles on habits and hacks that can help you become more productive when you’re on the clock. But what about your off time? Turns out, what you do in the evening can have an impact on how your day runs. “Throughout the workday, people expend high levels of cognitive resources to complete their work,” says Russell E. Johnson, a professor of management at Michigan State University’s Broad College of Business. “These cognitive resources are needed to focus attention, block out distractions, work through problems, and regulate emotions and stress.” But the resources aren’t endless. They deplete as the day progresses, depending on how mentally challenging the work and environment is. Cognitive resources can be replenished through mental respites. While taking short breaks during the day helps, the most important time of day to recharge is in the evening after the workday had … [Read more...] about These 5-to-9 habits could be hurting your 9-to-5 productivity

Barriers To Employment Fall With The Rise Of Out-Of-State Occupational License Recognition

March 21, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Income tax rate reduction and flattening, along with the expansion of school choice, are among the most consequential policy trends of the early 2020s. However, there is another policy trend emerging that, like income tax relief and greater educational choice, is making states more attractive to workers and employers. That trend is the push by policymakers to remove or mitigate the barriers to employment that state occupational licensing requirements have become. On Tuesday, March 21, Florida legislators will hold a hearing on Senate Bill 1364, legislation to recognize out-of-state occupational licenses held by new residents so that they can get to work and begin earning income in their new home state right away. If this reform, known as Universal License Recognition (ULR), is passed by legislators in Tallahassee and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis (R) this spring, Florida would become state number 22 to enact ULR. … [Read more...] about Barriers To Employment Fall With The Rise Of Out-Of-State Occupational License Recognition

Troubles Loom If Europeans Are Denied Cheap Electric Cars

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The electric car revolution in Europe requires a swift change of gear if it is to move from a well-heeled, early-adopters' niche to the mass market. European manufacturers still haven’t got the memo; small is beautiful. If this fails, the ramifications will be political as well as economic. Consumers will have to accept that electric cars, even expensive ones, have serious range limitations. Long trips with the family to southern Spain or Italy for the summer holidays using fast motorways are no problems for an internal combustion engine (ICE). But range anxiety from fast-but-legal motorway driving and poor charging facilities present big hurdles for electric vehicles. Given that 90% of motoring is never much more than 30 miles a day anyway, everyday use won't be much of a problem. You can always hire a diesel for those annual trips to the sun or weekend jaunts. Or take the train. Current electric technology produces, … [Read more...] about Troubles Loom If Europeans Are Denied Cheap Electric Cars

HART: Soros-Funded Manhattan District Attorney Predictably Weaponizes His Office Against Trump

March 22, 2023 by dailycaller.com

The right-wing “conspiracy theorists” have been saying that COVID originated in a lab in Wuhan, China and Anthony Fauci was involved.  They insist the arrests over January 6 were unjust, Hunter Biden’s laptop was not “Russian disinformation,” and the “Deep State” is out to get Trump. For those keeping score at home, conspiracy theorists are leading the media about 25 to 0. It seems to be common knowledge that the left-wing DA in Manhattan, Alvin Bragg, is going to try to arrest Donald Trump for some manipulated charges from seventeen years ago connected to his paying stripper Stormy Daniels money for an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) — which she broke. Wow, if you can’t trust a stripper/ho, whom can you trust? An NDA, as Tiger is finding out, is only good unless they can make more money trashing you. Stormy does not have a knee to stand on in this NDA case. So, with the NDA Trump made Stormy keep her mouth closed. Given this, her best case might be “restraint of trade.” … [Read more...] about HART: Soros-Funded Manhattan District Attorney Predictably Weaponizes His Office Against Trump
