One resource we can’t replenish is time. So, it’s no wonder that people are so interested in how to save time or get more done in less of it. When we can get more done during the hours we have, we can use that “saved” time for something more meaningful. Some people take their time-saving efforts to an extreme, even going so far as to wear the same thing every day , saving time and possibly alleviating decision fatigue . And while you may not relish the thought of wearing the same suit or hoodie every day, there are some other ways you can take back your most precious resource and devote it—and its accompanying brain power—to something better. Here are some places to start. Assess your workflow (even outside of work) First, start by observing how you are spending your time, says productivity coach Maura Nevel Thomas, author of Personal Productivity Secrets: Do What You Never Thought Possible with Your Time and Attention and Regain Control of Your Life . … [Read more...] about Take back your time in 2023 with these simple planning strategies

Ex-NEA exec warns vs ‘profit motive’ of Aboitiz firm in taking over Davao electric coop franchise
INQUIRER.net FILE PHOTO TAGUM CITY — A former top executive of the National Electrification Administration (NEA) has urged member-consumers of the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative (Nordeco) to continue raising their voice against the planned entry of the Aboitiz-owned Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) into its franchise area or else they would fall into the supposed ‘profit motive’ of the firm. Edgrado Masongsong, secretary general of the National Center of Electric Consumers Cooperative (NCECCO), warned Nordeco member consumers that if they allow DLPC to take over several areas of its franchise, the members would turn into “mere rental payers” of the power distribution company. Unlike private power companies, which are allowed to raise power rates in the era of deregulation, power coops still continue to consult with their members and even report to them the cooperative’s financial status every end of the year. Masongsong, a former NEA administrator, cited their … [Read more...] about Ex-NEA exec warns vs ‘profit motive’ of Aboitiz firm in taking over Davao electric coop franchise
How A TikTok Ban Would Deal A Blow To Creators, Businesses And The American Economy
A U.S. ban on the world’s most popular social media app would affect far more American businesses and people than just the 150 million using the platform here. C asey Evertsen drove down a suburban Utah street lined with trash bins, speaking into his phone’s camera as he gave a tour of the brightly-colored truck he uses for his garbage can-cleaning business. “If you like seeing dirty stuff get cleaned and watching how cool stuff works, follow along,” he said in the video shared on TikTok. “Let’s clean some bins!” Evertsen’s service, Bin Blasters , had for a whole year struggled to get traction through Facebook and Instagram. So taking a cue from his teenage daughter, he decided to try promoting it on TikTok instead. On his eighth video, just one month in, Evertsen “blew up.” "I went out and just started cleaning bins that day, started on our route, and I look at my phone like an hour later, and there's 17,000 views,” he recalled. “Then it just got in the millions.” … [Read more...] about How A TikTok Ban Would Deal A Blow To Creators, Businesses And The American Economy

Illegal Immigrant Separated From Child With Down Syndrome, Detained As Smuggling Witness
Following outrage that border officials separated a mother from her child with Down syndrome, U.S. officials set the record straight by stating Wednesday that the family was separated because the mother might be a criminal smuggler. “This smuggler has a criminal history including a flight, escape, aiding and abetting making it important that we prosecute,” the Customs and Border Patrol statement reads. Mexico’s Foreign Affairs Secretary Luis Videgaray Caso raised questions at a news conference Tuesday, pointing to the grave mistreatment that families must endure because of the federal government’s zero-tolerance policy. The family was not separated because the mother entered the U.S. illegally, but because she serves as a “material witness” in a smuggling case, the Dallas News reported . Federal law indicates that there is a zero-tolerance policy concerning immigrants who illegally cross the border, meaning that there is no guarantee families will be kept together while they … [Read more...] about Illegal Immigrant Separated From Child With Down Syndrome, Detained As Smuggling Witness

Violence vs women, kids: Why SC tagged marital infidelity as a crime
COMPOSITE IMAGE: DANIELLA MARIE AGACER (INQ STOCK PHOTOS) MANILA, Philippines—A recent Supreme Court (SC) decision strengthened a 2004 law, which seeks to address the prevalence of violence against women and their children (VAWC) by their intimate partners. Looking back, no less than former presidents Rodrigo Duterte and Joseph Estrada had flaunted their philandering ways. Sometimes, they even appear to be trivializing what they’re doing, making it less complex than it really is. But as Psych Central said, “infidelity can have lasting impacts on partners and children the couple may have,” stressing that “grief, brain changes, behaviors down the road, and mental health conditions such as anxiety, chronic stress, and depression can result.” Now, almost 20 years since Republic Act (RA) No. 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act, was enacted into law, the SC held that marital infidelity is one of the forms of psychological violence, which can be penalized … [Read more...] about Violence vs women, kids: Why SC tagged marital infidelity as a crime
New York holds top spot, London second in Z/Yen financial center survey
People are seen on Wall St. outside the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S. REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File photo LONDON – New York kept the top spot in the latest rankings of global financial centers from Z/Yen Group on Thursday, with London and Singapore also unchanged in second and third place. New York overtook London to head the table in September 2018 — two years after Britain voted to leave the European Union — but London has retained its second place ranking since then, despite some predicting it could take a heavy knock from Brexit. “New York retains a significant first position, and five other U.S. centers are in the top 10,” Z/Yen chairman Michael Mainelli said in a statement. Finance industry officials worried about London’s global reputation as a financial center after the Bank of England had to step in last September to buy government bonds to stop a rout in prices. Markets had been unnerved by a government announcement of unfunded tax cuts. … [Read more...] about New York holds top spot, London second in Z/Yen financial center survey
How Former Notre Dame Basketball Walk-On Anne Weese Became Kansas State’s Mental Wellness Guru
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As she watched the Kansas State men’s basketball team play in the NCAA tournament last weekend, Anne Weese felt a mixture of nervousness and excitement. It wasn’t exactly like her time as a Notre Dame basketball walk-on during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. Still, Weese was just happy to have an intimate connection with sports, albeit with a different perspective than her playing days. Weese, who has a Ph.D. in counseling psychology, is the director of mental wellness and sport psychology for Kansas State’s athletics department. She helps athletes address mental health issues, assists coaches on best practices and serves as a liaison to the University’s counseling center and outside clinicians in case athletes need more specialized care in areas such as eating disorders or substance abuse. Weese cannot discuss specific counseling sessions she’s had with athletes. But she said the men’s basketball team and first-year … [Read more...] about How Former Notre Dame Basketball Walk-On Anne Weese Became Kansas State’s Mental Wellness Guru
