February 3, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin CEO of AIoT chip company XMOS , Mark Lippett is a technology leader with 25 years’ experience in startup, scale-up and blue-chip companies. The annual United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) always brings technology under the sustainability spotlight. As the global climate issue becomes more pressing, a recent study by McKinsey is demanding widespread commitment to environmental protection targets to realize a 1.5°C trajectory by 2030. One focus in 2022 was semiconductors—given their environmentally taxing production and their application within devices that consume power throughout their lifetime. Of course, realizing more sustainable methods of chip manufacture and energy-aware device functionality can be a major advance in reducing overall emissions. The Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC) was formed in November last year, comprising 60 founding members who attended COP27 in Egypt to outline … [Read more...] about Semiconductor Sustainability: COP27 And The Potential Of Chips To Save Energy

Kentucky Bourbon Trail 2.0: Louisville Positions Itself At The Center Of American Spirits

May 30, 2018 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Copper Pot Stills At Woodford Reserve Brad Japhe In 1996, Woodford Reserve opened a visitor's center as part of its bourbon distillery. The low-key operation amidst the horse farms of Versailles, Kentucky, offered souvenirs, specialty bottles, and daily tours of the whiskey-making process. While that might not seem like anything special now, back then it was nothing short of revolutionary; booze-tourism simply didn't exist at the time. "The success of that decision led other distilleries to follow our lead," says Chris Poynter, brand spokesman. "T oday the Kentucky Bourbon Trail gets more than 1 million visitors annually, and growing. This combining of tourism and bourbon -- which we call bourbonism -- has been great for our distillery and the state of Kentucky.” While most of these outsized operations exist along the rural edges of Bluegrass Country, a new wave of liquid is swelling up inside the big … [Read more...] about Kentucky Bourbon Trail 2.0: Louisville Positions Itself At The Center Of American Spirits

Stonehenge Road Tunnel Gets Go-Ahead Despite UNESCO Saying It Would Trash ‘Outstanding Universal Value’ Of Wider Ritual Landscape

November 12, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The U.K. government has given the go-ahead for a controversial tunnel close to the internationally famous Stonehenge standing stones. Transport secretary Grant Shapps unveiled the decision on November 12. On one of his many YouTube videos protesting the plans, historian Tom Holland said: “The Stonehenge Tunnel is not just a tunnel. The government’s plans involve road-building on a massive scale through Europe’s most archaeologically significant prehistoric landscape: the desecration of Britain’s most internationally celebrated World Heritage Site.” There will be many campaigns against the tunnel but Shapps appears to want to go down in history as the transport secretary who “descecrated” Britain’s most famous World Heritage Site. The decision on building a road tunnel close to Stonehenge has been delayed several times. Shapps had been due to announce his decision on July 17. However, after new archeological … [Read more...] about Stonehenge Road Tunnel Gets Go-Ahead Despite UNESCO Saying It Would Trash ‘Outstanding Universal Value’ Of Wider Ritual Landscape
