Sunday’s Super Bowl was the most watched television event in American history, tuned into by nearly half of all households and at peak time, more than 117,000,000 viewers. Ad rates were $3.5 million per 30 second spot, and while viewers debated who was better, an overweight Volkswagen obsessed dog or Clint Eastwood, the real beneficiary of all that airtime and all those viewers was the city of Indianapolis. “Ten years from now, I think we will look back on this one single day as the tipping point in tourism and perception for the city,” said Chris Gahl, Vice President of Marketing for the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association. Several years ago when the city decided to go for the 2011 Game (it ended up with 2012), the bid process required $25 million in non-taxpayer funds, and several … [Read more...] about Super Bowl XLVI’s Real Winner? Super Bowl’s “Taste Of the NFL” – The Best Food Event You Never Heard Of
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Cake Boss made sure this Super Bowl dessert would be sweet for fans of both teams. In my last post , I wrote about how impressed I was with Indianapolis as a tourist city and as a host for what had to be the smoothest, best run Super Bowl imaginable. In a week filled with parties, big name concerts and all sorts of VIP events, the Taste of the NFL and its Party With A Purpose took the cake - except in this case the cake was a huge depiction of a football field complete with edible Eli Manning and Tom Brady jerseys and even the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The thing that makes this event so notable is that it is not new and not specific to any host city - it has been held for 21 straight years of Super Bowls, and will be held again next year (2013) in New Orleans, and after that in New York, and then Phoenix. My suggestion? Buy a ticket. The cool thing is you don’t have to be going to the game, which for most … [Read more...] about Super Bowl’s “Taste Of the NFL” – The Best Food Event You Never Heard Of
Reconnect With Self Love And The Divine Feminine At Tanjong Jara Resort’s Spa Village
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There are countless ways for one to connect with a destination. For the gastronome, local flavors are telling of a country’s diverse culinary culture. Art and design enthusiasts will most likely head to museums, architectural landmarks and gallery spaces as a means for enriching the travel experience. Adventure seekers will head to less-beaten paths, all in search of an adrenaline rush. For the beauty and wellness advocate, healing traditions of a region are the biggest draws for packing a bag and hopping on a plane. It was in May of this year when Malaysia finally opened its borders to foreign visitors. It had been over a decade since my last visit to the beautiful Southeast Asian federal country. A full spa tour itinerary was an opportunity to return and get to know the Malay Peninsula better. YTL Hotels’ Spa Village was an irresistible concept that inspired me to finally book my ticket and make room reservations after … [Read more...] about Reconnect With Self Love And The Divine Feminine At Tanjong Jara Resort’s Spa Village
Editor Daily Rundown: Joe Biden Deeply Unpopular With Voters
BIDEN DEEPLY UNPOPULAR WITH VOTERS… WSJ: Biden, Democrats Lose Ground on Key Issues, WSJ Poll Finds WASHINGTON—President Biden and his fellow Democrats have lost ground to Republicans on several of the issues most important to voters, a new Wall Street Journal poll finds, a troubling sign for the party seeking to extend its controlling majority of Congress for another two years. The new survey showed that 57% of voters remained unhappy with Mr. Biden’s job performance, despite favorable marks for the president’s response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and a recent State of the Union speech, which provided him an opportunity to directly speak to millions of Americans. Just 42% said they approved of Mr. Biden’s performance in office, which was virtually unchanged from the previous Journal poll in mid-November. Meanwhile, Democratic advantages narrowed over Republicans on issues related to improving education and the Covid-19 response. A 16-percentage-point Democratic edge … [Read more...] about Editor Daily Rundown: Joe Biden Deeply Unpopular With Voters
The Kentucky Derby: Great Fun And A Must-Do For Your Bucket List
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Famous Churchill Downs racetrack - you have to see it in person to appreciate it. I’ll Have Another, as in I’ll Have Another Kentucky Derby, hopefully as soon as next year. I just returned from Louisville, Churchill Downs, and “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports,” and I can sum my experience up in one word: Awesome. I’ve been to a lot of major sporting events, including the Super Bowl, and the argument could be made that the Kentucky Derby is the best of all, mainly because it is about so much more than the race itself. Go to the World Series or NBA Finals and you get 3 hours of entertainment. Much of the fun surrounding the Super Bowl is in the form of invitation-only parties and VIP events, not the game. But the Kentucky Derby is the complete package, morning to night fun - for two full days - at a minimum. You don’t have to know anything about horse racing to love the Derby, with all its pomp and … [Read more...] about The Kentucky Derby: Great Fun And A Must-Do For Your Bucket List
How Blue Nile Delivered A Million Pieces Of Bridal Jewelry
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It hides in plain sight in a Seattle neighborhood. A building that would not attract even a hint of curiosity. Inside it’s a bit of a different story as this seemingly bare-bones structure serves as the fulfillment center for Blue Nile , the world’s largest Internet retailer of diamond jewelry. It’s easy to view Blue Nile solely as an early eCommerce success story but perhaps its greatest feat is the ability to produce and ship jewels in a highly efficient manner based on the individual requirements of an online order. This efficiency is one of the ways it earns the trusts of customers making a highly emotional purchase. The nondescript nature of the facility is due to security concerns. The merchandise is highly valuable, consisting of diamonds, colored gems and precious metals. Inside, multiple doors are used to enter and leave certain areas for security purposes. Workers were not identified in the story for the same … [Read more...] about How Blue Nile Delivered A Million Pieces Of Bridal Jewelry
FLASHBACK: Schumer Warned In 2017 The FBI Would Have ‘Six Ways’ Of Getting Back At Trump
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer predicted in 2017 that the intelligence community would have “six ways” to get back at former President Donald Trump after Trump pushed back against allegations of Russian interference in the election. Trump had tweeted that an intelligence briefing over Russia’s alleged interference into the 2016 election had been delayed because the agency needed more time “to build a case,” according to The Hill. The tweet came after authorities said Russia tried to interfere in the election. “You take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you, so even for a practical, supposedly hard-nosed businessman, he’s being really dumb to do this,” Schumer said to Rachel Maddow while speaking on MSNBC. “What do you think the intelligence community would do if they were motivated to?” Maddow asked. “I don’t know,” Schumer said. “But from what I am told, they are very upset with how he has treated them and talked … [Read more...] about FLASHBACK: Schumer Warned In 2017 The FBI Would Have ‘Six Ways’ Of Getting Back At Trump
Serena Williams says “countdown has begun” to retirement
Saying “the countdown has begun,” 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams announced Tuesday she is ready to step away from tennis so she can turn her focus to having another child and her business interests, presaging the end of a career that transcended sports. In an essay released Tuesday by Vogue magazine, and a post on Instagram — the sorts of direct-to-fans communication favored these days by celebrities, a category she most definitely fits — Williams was not completely clear on the timeline for her last match, but she made it sound as if that could be at the U.S. Open, which begins Aug. 29 in New York. “There comes a time in life when we have to decide to move in a different direction. That time is always hard when you love something so much. My goodness do I enjoy tennis. But now, the countdown has begun,” Williams, who turns 41 next month, wrote on Instagram. “I have to focus on being a mom, my spiritual goals and finally discovering a different, but just (as) exciting … [Read more...] about Serena Williams says “countdown has begun” to retirement

Indonesia lawmakers call for tougher rules to avert another coal crisis
Indonesia coal benchmark price COAL-HBA-ID has stayed above US$70 per tonne level since January 2021 but surged to a record US$321.59 per tonne this month, as the war in Ukraine exacerbated the energy supply crunch. - A + A JAKARTA (Aug 9): Indonesian legislators on Tuesday pressed the government to tighten rules on domestic coal sales, amid concern that miners will choose to pay fines instead of meeting a requirement to sell a quarter of their output to local power generators. The parliamentary energy committee met during recess on Tuesday, fearing the world's biggest thermal coal exporter was headed for a repeat of a domestic supply crisis late last year that saw exports banned for a few weeks in January, triggering panic among foreign buyers. Indonesia imposes a so-called Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) where miners must sell 25% of their output onshore, at prices capped at US$70 per tonne for power generators and US$90 per tonne for local industry. Though … [Read more...] about Indonesia lawmakers call for tougher rules to avert another coal crisis
