Charlie Haylock is a popular author from Great Cornard near Sudbury Picture: LUCY TAYLOR The Suffolk Oxlip, a delicate yellow flower found in wet woods on boulder clay, is now on the Red Data List for plants – meaning it is on the verge of extinction. Charlie Haylock, from near Sudbury, was so concerned to hear the plant was endangered that he launched a campaign to preseve the county flower so it could be enjoyed for generations to come. He said: “I just feel that with the Oxlip being the county flower of Suffolk, on the verge of extinction, we should do something to try and solve it. Man charged with Sudbury murder nearly decade after fatal stabbing
A 40-year-old man has been charged on suspicion of stabbing a Sudbury resident to death nearly a decade ago. 24-year-old Kosovan national, Bledar Mone, was found dead at his Fernbank Avenue home in Brent having been fatally stabbed in 1999. The victim was allegedly found with multiple wounds to the head and body on June 22. Nine years after Mone was found dead a 40-year-old man has been charged with his killing and is due to appear in court. Archant Excellent care and genetics has seen Donald Needham, believed to be East Anglia’s oldest man, live to the age of 106. Donald Needham celebrates his 106th birthday at William Wood House in Sudbury. The former accountant - originally from Sheffield but now living in Sudbury - whose twin sister and mother both lived to nearly 100, moved to Lavenham aged 93 to be closer to his family. On Saturday he celebrated his birthday, and still claims he “doesn’t feel old at all”, and has no major health problems. Thing-Me-Bobs in Borehamgate wili close in the middle of June, though some staff will transfer to other stores in the QD group which includes a store elsewhere in the town. The closure is the result of a falling out between the QD Group and the landlords who are Babergh District Council.
