US stock bulls are taking heart from a range of market signals pointing to an upbeat year for Wall Street, as equities sit on impressive gains despite worries that the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy tightening may plunge the economy into a recession. Among these are equities’ positive January performance, a "golden cross" chart pattern on the S&P 500 and more stocks making new highs rather than new lows. Such signals are far from the only indicators market participants use to make investment decisions, and they are not foolproof. Weak outlooks for corporate heavyweights such as Amazon and Microsoft and a blowout employment number that heightened expectations for Fed hawkishness injected a fresh note of uncertainty into markets on Friday, though the S&P 500 remains up 7.7 percent year-to-date. However, steady improvements in gauges of momentum and sentiment in recent weeks reinforced the view among some investors that asset prices may be heading for a more benign … [Read more...] about Wall Street Week Ahead | Signals of market regaining momentum attract investors

Tech Rally Scares Bears, Should It?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Investors were on edge at the start of the week as concerns mounted about the health of the stock market rally ahead of the FOMC meeting and earnings from four tech giants. Many think that the January move higher in stocks was just a bear market rally even though the S&P 500 gained an impressive 6.18% while the Nasdaq Composite rose 10.7%. Many Wall Street strategists , who on average looking for stocks to close below current levels in 2023, think a recession is inevitable and that earnings valuations are too high. Stocks reflected the nervousness on Monday as they had the largest drop of the month with the Nasdaq 100 losing 2.1%. Apple AAPL , Inc. (AAPL) and Microsoft MSFT (MSFT) led the decline. This reassured the stock market bears as Morgan Stanley commented “We think the recent price action is more a reflection of the seasonal January effect and short covering after a tough end to December and a … [Read more...] about Tech Rally Scares Bears, Should It?
Happy Valentine’s Day Senator Klobuchar: Bruce Springsteen’s Ticket Prices For His February 14th Show Are Crashing
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Just this week the Senate Judiciary Committee posted an ominous message to Ticketmaster regarding their upcoming sale of tickets for Beyoncé. They took to Twitter to say “ We’re watching @Ticketmaster. ” Since when does the legislative branch of government communicate in the same cadence as Tony Soprano? It is as if the Senators don’t believe the free market works. Perhaps that makes sense in today’s Washington D.C. where George Santos inexplicably remains a sitting member of Congress and a certain ex-President is campaigning on a platform that his 2020 election “victory” was stolen. In the land of reality, tickets trade like any items of value. The prices move up and down based upon supply and demand. Those in the know understand that Bruce Springsteen is almost universally regarded as a stellar artist and performer. Along with that reputation is the lesser known truth that demand for his tickets is always high in New … [Read more...] about Happy Valentine’s Day Senator Klobuchar: Bruce Springsteen’s Ticket Prices For His February 14th Show Are Crashing

Gaming in 2022: A year in review
People trying out different games at The Arena, Comic-Con, Bengaluru The year 2022 was a weird year for gaming. The industry continued to feel the lingering effects of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic with slower hardware sales and major delays for upcoming AAA games. Here is a look at some of the gaming highlights of 2022. More buggy launches Unfortunately, major AAA releases continued the trend of messy launches with games like Calisto Protocol or Gotham Knights. The year began with the dullest of thuds in Babylon's Fall, a half-baked unfinished co-op experience that showed Square Enix has learned nothing from its previous live service disasters. What hurt even more is that it was developed by industry darlings Platinum Games. Electronic Arts continued to release yearly installments in the FIFA franchise, and like every year, it was mocked but still sold in the millions. Thankfully, EA no longer holds the license to FIFA anymore. Read More Unfortunately, EA … [Read more...] about Gaming in 2022: A year in review
How Hard Should We Push Generative AI ChatGPT Into Spewing Hate Speech, Asks AI Ethics And AI Law
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Everyone has their breaking point. I suppose you could also say that everything has its breaking point. We know that humans for example can sometimes snap and utter remarks that they don’t necessarily mean to say. Likewise, you can at times get a device or machine to essentially snap, such as pushing your car too hard and it starts to falter or fly apart. Thus, the notion is that people or “everyone” likely has a breaking point, and similarly we can assert that objects and things, in general, also tend to have a breaking point. There could be quite sensible and vital reasons to ascertain where the breaking point exists. For example, you’ve undoubtedly seen those videos showcasing a car being put through its paces to identify what breaking points it has. Scientists and testers will ram a car into a brick wall to see how well the bumper and the structure of the vehicle can withstand the adverse action. Other tests … [Read more...] about How Hard Should We Push Generative AI ChatGPT Into Spewing Hate Speech, Asks AI Ethics And AI Law
Students Left $3.6 Billion In Pell Grants Unclaimed Last Year
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Graduating high school students left almost $3.6 billion in Pell Grant funds unclaimed last year because they did not complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). That is the finding of a new report from the National College Attainment Network (NCAN) out this week. The FAFSA is the federal form you must complete to be considered for any financial aid from the federal government, your state, or one of the colleges you hope to attend. FAFSA completion rates are used as an indicator of whether students intend to enroll in college and often provide an early indication of what proportion of recent high school graduates plan on heading to college. FAFSA completion is also strongly associated with college enrollment, so increasing the number of students who complete their aid application may increase the number of students entering higher education. NCAN calculated that 44 percent of the class of 2022 did not … [Read more...] about Students Left $3.6 Billion In Pell Grants Unclaimed Last Year

Everything We Know About ‘Lockwood And Co’ Season 2 On Netflix
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If you’re a fan of the new ghost-hunting drama Lockwood and Co. on Neflix, I think it may be time to start being at least a little bit concerned about its potential season 2 renewal. For starters, no, Netflix has not announced anything official about Lockwood and Co. yet, either cancelation or renewal for season 2. But watching the show’s performance, I’m a bit concerned. Why? Well, there’s the obvious, that we have seen Netflix cancel countless YA shows in the past, with very few running the gauntlet to survive to a second or third season. On the surface, Lockwood and Co. is exactly the type of show that Netflix is prone to cancel, and as such it would have to perform pretty extraordinarily to get noticed. I fear it is not performing well enough. Lockwood and Co. debuted at a decent #2 in the top 10 list, but it never reached number one and is already starting to fall fast, currently down to #5 in the US after … [Read more...] about Everything We Know About ‘Lockwood And Co’ Season 2 On Netflix
