Gerhard Schroeder - A + A FRANKFURT (May 26): Gerhard Schroeder has backed off from taking a top role at Russian energy giant Gazprom, dealing a setback to Germany's gas lobby as it seeks to keep the energy lifeline from Russia open. The former German chancellor played a critical role in establishing the energy bond between the countries and defending it over two decades. Earlier this month, following a barrage of criticism, Russia's state-owned oil company Rosneft said Schroeder was stepping down from its board. On Tuesday, shortly after the European Parliament had urged his blacklisting, Schroeder said he would not take a nomination to Gazprom's supervisory board. Germany had also closed Schroeder's taxpayer-funded office amid a public outcry over Russia ties. It marks the end of a controversial career that had seen him forge a friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin underscored Schroeder's importance as a guarantor for a cheap and steady … [Read more...] about Schroeder throws in towel as German industry clings on to Russian gas

Vhong Navarro gets death threats, says lawyer
MANILA, Philippines—Actor Vhong Navarro has been receiving threatening text messages since the mauling incident that involved businessman Cedric Lee and model Deniece Millet Cornejo, Navarro’s lawyer said. “Mr. Vhong has been receiving anonymous text messages that contain threats,” attorney Dennis Manalo said in a televised interview Friday. Manalo added that an unknown man also visited Navarro’s residence and asked to open the gate after the actor appeared on television about the mauling incident. In his affidavit to the National Bureau of Investigation, Navarro said he was inside Cornejo’s condominium unit when two men came out of the room and one pointed a gun at the comedian-TV host. They then tied and blindfolded Navarro and simultaneously rained blows on him, he said. Navarro also claimed that, while he was stripped naked, video cameras were pointed at him and that his assailants ordered him to utter “Ako si Vhong, ni-rape ko ang kaibigan ko.” (I am Vhong and I … [Read more...] about Vhong Navarro gets death threats, says lawyer

Gujarat Ambuja Cements entered into a strategic alliance with Swiss cement giant Holcim in 2005. I had no time to rest and reflect. I was determined to get ACC back on the rails in as short a period as possible. We had to wrap up the rest of the ACC deal with the Tatas. Our agreement with the Tatas required that we complete our purchase of the remainder 7.2 per cent shares within one year. The bridge loan that we took for the first tranche of shares … [Read more...] about Narotam Sekhsaria: “I was determined to get ACC back on the rails in as short a period as possible”

‘I’m Pretty Sure I’d Be Dead’: Johnny Depp Slams Amber Heard’s MDMA-Popping Accusations
Amber Heard accused Johnny Depp of taking as many as 8-10 MDMA pills at once, and he took the stand Wednesday with a blunt response, saying he wouldn’t have survived if those allegations were true. Heard has alleged that Depp consumed as many as 8-10 MDMA pills during a night that turned violent in Australia in 2015, but Depp fired back at her to say not only was that not true, it was also not possible, according to TMZ . When his attorney asked Depp if there was any truth behind that allegation, he had one simple thing to say. “No, I’m pretty sure I’d be dead, I think one would die, rather quickly,” Depp said in the courtroom video . “Mr. Depp, do you recall Ms. Heard testifying that she saw you consuming 8-10 MDMA pills at once while you were in Australia in March of 2015,? asked his lawyer, in the court video tapes uploaded by TMZ.
