This will represent a slower tightening that, according to ING Bank, might pave the way for a likely pause of hikes in May. Before the latest policy meeting scheduled on Thursday, the Monetary Board (MB) went for hikes of 0.5 ppt on two previous occasions—February and December 2022. This, in turn, followed a 0.75-ppt hike in November last year. Since starting the tightening cycle last May, the BSP’s key rate has risen by 4 ppt from a pandemic-prompted historic low of 2 percent. Commitment Nicholas Mapa, senior economist at ING Bank, said a smaller rate hike this week will serve as an “insurance” considering that inflation remained well-above the government’s target range at 8.6 percent in … [Read more...] about BSP tipped to raise key rate to 6.25%

Irish Drone Delivery Startup Expanding To U.S. And Mainland Europe
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin One of the world’s most successful drone delivery companies will be expanding to mainland Europe and the United States in 2023. Manna Aero has already done over 100,000 drone deliveries in multiple locations in Ireland, and is trending to hit over 1,000 deliveries per day in individual dense urban markets. But it won’t be instantly available everywhere. And Manna is not releasing its first target market in the U.S. “Nobody is to go full throttle up scaling,” says CEO Bobby Healy on a recent TechFirst podcast. “We're more interested in demonstrating we can operate in multiple markets, and that we can do, say, a thousand deliveries a day in a very dense area. And so that's what we'll be doing by this summer ... in Dublin.” Google sister company Wing is probably leading drone delivery in the U.S., right now, running deliveries in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in addition to other locations in the U.S. and globally. … [Read more...] about Irish Drone Delivery Startup Expanding To U.S. And Mainland Europe
Want To Be An Entrepreneur? Think Like A Pilot
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In this Forbes column from December 2022, I talked briefly about my pursuit of a lifelong dream to become a private pilot and how, over the past year, I’ve been writing a book about the experience. I was recently reviewing the first draft of the book manuscript while, in the back of my mind, considering ideas for a column centered on entrepreneurship. My writing worlds collided while I was reading through a part of my new book that addresses whether you must be some sort of genius to fly. In that earlier column, I noted that while you don’t have to be a member of the Mensa Society to command an aircraft, you do need a combination of unique traits to get through the rigors of flight training. While reading the list of traits I detailed almost a year ago, I realized several are relevant to succeeding as an entrepreneur. This may not be too surprising. Starting a company and flying a small plane have elements of risk … [Read more...] about Want To Be An Entrepreneur? Think Like A Pilot

Why 186 Other Banks Could Go The Way Of Silicon Valley Bank
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There were no new bank failures over the weekend. But the global banking system is not in the pink of health. There are two reasons for continued concern: A March 13 study by four economists reveals that 186 banks are at risk of “impairment” of $300 billion worth of insured deposits A March 19 New York Times report reveals that the Federal Reserve began warning Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) of financial risks in 2021 — over a year before it cratered — yet SVB management did nothing. What’s more Moody’s warned SVB’s management of an imminent downgrade about a month before it announced its emergency capital raise. Shares of First Republic Bank FRC are trading well below where they were after it received $30 billion in deposits from other banks on March 16. It seems only a matter of time before more rot in the banking system comes to light. (I have no financial interest in the securities mentioned in this … [Read more...] about Why 186 Other Banks Could Go The Way Of Silicon Valley Bank

Oddsmakers Believe The Green Bay Packers Will Finish Last In The NFC North
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin With or without Aaron Rodgers, the folks in the desert didn't give the Green Bay Packers much of a chance to win the NFC North on 2023. Before it became clear that Rodgers’ time in Green Bay was over, Fanduel gave the Packers the third-best odds to win the division at +340. Now, with Rodgers expected to be playing for the New York Jets in 2023, Green Bay’s odds are at +410. What is fascinating, though, is Fanduel believes the Packers will finish last in the NFC North. The last time that happened was 2005, when Green Bay went 4-12. In fact, the Packers have been either first or second in the division 14 of the past 17 years and third just three times (2008, 2017, 2018). Fanduel currently has Detroit as the divisional frontrunner at +130. The Lions haven't won the NFC North since 1993. Minnesota, which won the division by four games in 2022, is picked for second at +310. Chicago, which had the worst record in the … [Read more...] about Oddsmakers Believe The Green Bay Packers Will Finish Last In The NFC North

The news has also been reported by several outlets, including ESPN.com. “Sometimes in life change is needed for emotional stability, for wellness and just because you're at a place doesn't mean everything’s forever,” Cooley told Morey Hershgordon of WPRI 12 in a television interview Sunday night. “Providence has always been my dream job and I’ll continue to say that. Sometimes circumstance changes and it has nothing to do with administrators, it has nothing to do with athletic directors, it has all to do with where me and wife feel is something that we may possibly need.” Cooley, a 53-year-old Providence native, becomes the first coach in Big East history to move from one league program to another. Three Ways To Prevent Quiet Quitting
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Anita Samojednik is CEO of Paro, a startup disrupting the way companies access on-demand financial expertise. The term "quiet quitting" has dominated media headlines and social media over the past few months. TikTok might have popularized the buzzword, but the concept is far from new. Despite the name, quiet quitting has little to do with quitting. Rather, an employee chooses to work their required hours and take on no additional responsibilities beyond their defined role. To me, this isn’t surprising. After a global pandemic, people are paying more attention to their mental health and personal well-being. According to my company’s recent survey of more than 2,000 full-time and self-employed knowledge workers, 39% said work-life balance was the most important aspect of their job in 2022, ahead of 28% who cited compensation. Given professionals’ focus on creating a better work-life balance, along with many … [Read more...] about Three Ways To Prevent Quiet Quitting
