Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin By Meredith Bryan Scan any resume, and take note of what pops: job titles, company names, college degrees. But in today’s competitive labor market, businesses need workers with the right skills to do the job, not workers who’ve negotiated prestige titles that can mean different things at different organizations. Out-of-date job titles and requirements only serve to limit applicant pools in a moment when hiring managers are striving to attract and retain diverse, high-quality talent. Instead, recent research shows that a candidate’s skills are 5x more predictive of their job performance than hiring for education. “The future of work is all based on skills,” says Joseph Hanna, chief product officer at Magnit, a leading integrated workforce management platform. Innovative companies like Magnit are leveraging data and new technologies to facilitate this broader shift toward skills-based hiring, which will … [Read more...] about Forget Job Titles: 7 Reasons To Take A Skills-Based Approach To Hiring Talent

Layoffs At Disney Will Start This Week, CEO Bob Iger Says
(CTN News) Disney CEO sent a memo this week stating that layoffs will begin this week, resulting in about 7,000 job cuts before the summer season. By cutting corporate spending, free cash flow is being increased as a result of the cuts, and corporate spending is being reduced. The company announced last month that it plans to reduce its costs by $5.5 billion, including $3 billion in content expenses. The company is beginning to notify employees whose positions have been affected by the workforce reductions this week, according to a memo obtained by CNBC, about the changes. The first group of impacted employees will receive the news directly over the next four days, and they will be notified directly of the news. It is expected that several thousand more staff reductions will be announced in April, and we expect to begin notifying employees about the final round of job reductions before the summer. How To Сreate Сontent For A Revenue-Generating Social Media Marketing Strategy
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin CEO & Founder @ Refocus , EdTech enthusiast, investor, mentor and marketing expert. Many leaders underestimate how effective a well-developed social media marketing (SMM) strategy can be for generating leads and boosting sales. For us, the direct impact of this type of marketing (excluding paid promotion) for 2022 was almost 10% of our revenue. I've found that the key to a successful SMM strategy is creating high-quality selling content that aligns with your audience's pains and values while also being entertaining enough for people to follow you. Here’s the system my company created to effectively generate leads via social media and keep audiences engaged. 1. Research your customer. Researching your audience is the first step in any business decision, and SMM is no exception. Your content shouldn’t just describe how great your product is—aim to speak your customer's language and tell them what they … [Read more...] about How To Сreate Сontent For A Revenue-Generating Social Media Marketing Strategy
What Automation Means For Cybersecurity—And Your Business
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Co-Founder and CEO of Varonis , responsible for leading the management, strategic direction and execution of the company. In the movie Apollo 13 , three astronauts returning to Earth are unaware of their perilous reentry. Back in Houston at Mission Control, chief flight director Gene Kranz (played by Ed Harris) comments on the unfortunate events, saying: "Is there anything they can do about it?" No one dared to speak. "Then they don't need to know." If Kranz was in IT security, he'd probably have a thing or two to say about actionable information and how there's sometimes too little and many times far too much. In this article, I'll share how automation can help turn the right information into action, helping to defend against cyberattacks, mitigate risk, shore up compliance and improve productivity. You Can't Unbreach Data The biggest security risk businesses face is lasting damage, which … [Read more...] about What Automation Means For Cybersecurity—And Your Business
Ten Questions With OpenAI On Reinforcement Learning With Human Feedback
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Recently, we interviewed Long Ouyang and Ryan Lowe, research scientists at OpenAI . As the creators of InstructGPT – one of the first major applications of reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF) to train large language models – the two played an important role in the evolution of RLHF models and paving the way for GPT-4. Here are some highlights from the conversation. What's the motivation behind InstructGPT? And what are the problems with GPT-3 that inspired InstructGPT? Long Ouyang: I think one of the main issues we’re trying to solve is that when GPT-3 came out there was a lot of excitement about using it to do useful cognitive work, for example, summarizing a news article. Out of the box it’s not exactly designed to do that, it’s designed to predict what someone on the internet might say in a given setting. And it turns out that you can kind of trick the model into performing useful work for you … [Read more...] about Ten Questions With OpenAI On Reinforcement Learning With Human Feedback
In Healthcare’s Game Of Monopoly, One Player Will Control The Board
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In healthcare, as in life, people devote a lot of time and attention to the way things should be. They’d be better off focusing on what actually could be. As an example, 57% to 70% of American voters believe our nation “should” adopt a single-payer healthcare system like Medicare For All. Likewise, public health advocates insist that more of the nation’s $4 trillion healthcare budget “should” be spent on combating the social determinants of health: things like housing insecurity, low-wage jobs and other socioeconomic stresses. Neither of these ideas will happen, nor will dozens of positive healthcare solutions that “should” happen. When the things that should happen don’t, there’s always a reason. In healthcare, the biggest roadblock to change is what I call the conglomerate of monopolies , which includes hospitals , drug companies , private-equity-staked physicians and commercial health insurers . These … [Read more...] about In Healthcare’s Game Of Monopoly, One Player Will Control The Board

There's no doubt that the music industry is a male-dominated field. But that doesn't mean there isn't room for female leaders to make their mark. ‘Succession’ Season 4, Episode 1 Review: Rummage Sale
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Succession is back for its fourth and final season and that makes me both tremendously happy and a little bit sad. Happy to get one more delicious season of family drama, backstabbing and plotting that makes House Of The Dragon almost look tame by comparison; sad that it’s almost over, of course. I could handle a couple more seasons of Succession. In any case, there’s blood in the water. Logan Roy is making his last gambit and the sharks are circling. Who will end up sitting on the Iron Waystar RoyCo Throne? Who will bend the knee? Let’s talk about it. The Revenge Of The Kids When we left off at the end of Season 3, Logan Roy (Brian Cox) had just made a surprise play. After meeting with GoJo creator Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgard) the Roy patriarch decided that now was the time to sell rather than acquire. Matsson would take over both companies—instead of one of Roy’s idiot children—and Logan would walk away … [Read more...] about ‘Succession’ Season 4, Episode 1 Review: Rummage Sale

He’s collaborated with The Neighborhood, Saba, KAYTRANADA, Domo Genesis, Young Thug, A$AP Ferg, Denzel Curry , and Bas. Dancing with his right brain, he turns silence into capturing sound. Balancing his left brain, he confers with the powers of bureaucracy, law, and record labels. “Most artists that I meet are focused on the right brain. They tend to struggle a lot. They feel restricted. And there's a tendency to rely on their team or their manager. It’s good to have people like that, but dependence could affect your livelihood because you can't control anyone else,” said IDK. … [Read more...] about Polymath Of Rap, IDK, Applies Both Sides Of His Brain
The Korea paradox
Kim Myung-ja The author is president of the Seoul Forum for International Affairs (SFIA) and honorary chair of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies. The 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry went to Emmanuelle Charpentier, a French microbiologist of the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens, Berlin, and Jennifer A. Doudna, an American biochemist at the University of California, Berkeley, for the development of a method for genome editing. Their discovery of the Crispr/Cas9 genetic scissors paved the way for revolutionary changes in the DNA of animals, plants. Since the Crispr technology had been rumored for a Nobel recognition from the mid-2010s, the names of other pioneers and scientists in the field like George Church, a geneticist of Harvard University, Feng Zhang of the Broad Institute, and Kim Jin-soo, a biologist at Seoul National University, who also explored the Crispr DNA scissor technique, were floated for nominations for the award.
