The gun violence epidemic feels hopeless. These five experts have possible solutions
(CNN) The bloodshed over Easter weekend was emblematic of the alarming and unabated surge in gun violence in the United States. From New York to Pennsylvania to Florida, from Nevada to California to Oregon, eight people were killed and dozens injured during at least 10 mass shootings last weekend alone. The violence added to the year's growing toll of mass shootings in the US, which stood at 154 as of Sunday morning, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The archive and CNN define a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people are shot, not including the shooter. 2 house parties, an Easter fete and a mall were among the sites of at least 10 weekend US mass shootings The Easter weekend carnage included two teenagers who were gunned down at a packed party in Pittsburgh early Sunday when, police said, multiple shooters unloaded more than 90 rounds. (CNN) I began my legal career as an assistant district attorney in Brooklyn in 1975, when New York City resembled the Gotham depicted in the darkest of Batman movies rather than the safe American city we have grown to love in recent years. Sadly, a recent surge in violent crimes in New York and other large American cities may be a sign of a return to that crime-ridden era. And Tuesday morning's shooting at a subway station in Brooklyn's Sunset Park is perhaps the strongest evidence. The perpetrator allegedly opened two smoke grenades before shooting at least 33 times and striking 10 people -- seven men and three women. With the stakes higher, the lights brighter and the crowd significantly larger, the duo completed a less than scintillating play that led UP to a 73-71 victory over Adamson at Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday to take their UAAP Final Four match-up to a deciding game and fan the flames of a first title series appearance in ages. “It was just a drill [on Friday]night. Liberal Website Blames Elliot Rodger Shooting On ‘White Privilege’
The liberal website Salon published an article Tuesday blaming Elliot Rodger’s killing spree on “white privilege,” despite the fact that Rodger considered himself “Eurasian.” “Welp. Another young white guy has decided that his disillusionment with his life should become somebody else’s problem,” wrote Brittney Cooper, who also teaches women’s and gender studies and Africana studies at Rutgers University. Last Friday, Rodger killed six people and then himself in a murder spree near the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara. Rodger, 22, stabbed three men to death in his home before embarking on a shooting spree across the city. He killed another three, including two members of the Alpha Phi sorority, and injured numerous others by ramming them with his car, a black BMW. Before the rampage, Rodger left a trail of angry YouTube videos and a 141-page manifesto in which he pinned his motives on his lack of success with women. But despite Cooper’s claim that … [Read more...] about Liberal Website Blames Elliot Rodger Shooting On ‘White Privilege’
