Southern Thailand ceasefire shattered with another fatal bombing

April 16, 2022 by thethaiger.com

The leader of one of Thailand’s southern rebel groups claimed yesterday that the group was behind a double bombing that killed a villager that day. Chalermchai Petchkart, the police chief of Sai Buri district in Pattani province, where the bombing happened, told Benar News that the bomb that exploded and killed the villager had been left in a paper bag. “His friend walked to the field as Navi parked his motorbike near a tree and found a paper bag. He picked it up, and the bomb exploded, killing him there”. The group, Patani United Liberation Organisation, is considered one of the oldest secessionist movements in the Deep South. The last time PULO committed an attack was reportedly in 2016. The attack yesterday came just weeks after another southern rebel group, Barisan Revolusi Nasional, agreed with the Thai government to a 40-day ceasefire. The ceasefire agreement came in light of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, and Thailand’s Songkran holiday. The Social Commerce Revolution Is Upon Us

July 7, 2015 by www.inc.com

If you're an ecommerce business or have a service you're trying to market, it goes without saying that you'll want your audience to have every possible opportunity to make a sale. In the past social media was all about connecting with this audience, then trying to drive them to your website, and then trying to make a sale, but recently more and more social networks are cutting out the middle man. In other words, they're making it easy for users to make a purchase from your brand right then and there--you just have to know how to get started and how to take advantage. How the Social Commerce Revolution Works and Examples The first thing to understand is what exactly a social commerce revolution means. In short, social commerce refers to options for users to buy what they're seeing right there without having to navigate to a brand's page to make the purchase. In the past social networks were all about making connections and creating profile pages, but they're quickly … [Read more...] about The Social Commerce Revolution Is Upon Us

‘It’s Disgusting’: Reporter Hits Back After WHCA Threatens To Expel Him For Interrupting Psaki’s Last Briefing

May 16, 2022 by dailycaller.com

Today News Africa White House correspondent Simon Ateba hit back at the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) threatening to suspend or expel him for interrupting Friday’s White House press briefing. Ateba derailed White House press secretary Jen Psaki’s last briefing as he talked over two reporters, including Associated Press reporter Zeke Miller. After one of the reporters confronted the Today Africa News reporter, Psaki stepped in and ordered him to respect the fellow White House reporters. White House Correspondents Association President and CBS News Radio White House correspondent Steven Portnoy addressed Ateba’s interruptions in a Monday email obtained by the Daily Caller threatening to enact their right to suspend him from the briefing room. “Your disruptive behavior at last Friday’s briefing interrupted your colleagues and reflected poorly on the press corps,” he said. “There is no right of any reporter to be called on by any official. Thailand entry may be simplified by switching to antigen test

November 26, 2021 by thethaiger.com

At the CCSA meeting on Friday, the Ministry of Public Health will propose easing entry requirements by replacing RT-PCR tests with a much cheaper and faster antigen test. Health authorities report that Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul will propose the revision at Friday’s meeting to be enacted from December on. The simplifying of the required Covid-19 test is part of an effort to relax entry restrictions to encourage tourists to come to Thailand. Currently, internationally arriving travellers transfer to an approved hotel where they will undergo an RT-PCR test and then be confined to their room until the test results are received, typically between 6 hours and 1 day. While travellers in the Test & Go program are not required to quarantine for any amount of time, the need to test negative for Covid-19 in a process that can take up to 24 hours, creates what is essentially a needed 1-day quarantine. The proposed entry relaxation would also include expanding the … [Read more...] about Thailand entry may be simplified by switching to antigen test

Sexy street vendor’s sales spike after busty shirt goes viral

November 25, 2021 by thethaiger.com

When photos and videos of the “sexy street vendor” went viral, the 24 year old Chiang Mai woman says her orders for the Thai pancakes, known as “khanom Tokyo,” multiplied… just by showing some cleavage. (This was a top story on The Thaiger yesterday. So, we’re doing a follow up, you know, for the readers.) The vendor, known as Olive, drew so much attention by cooking pancakes in a revealing top that her sales jumped from just a few dozen packages of khanom Tokyo to 200 in just a day. Many have stopped and stared. Olive told Thai media that a motorbike driver crashed his bike because he was rubbernecking. But men aren’t the only ones drawn to Olive. Thai fashion bloggers are also interested in the woman’s cardigan-style shirt which is loosely pinned below at the top and nothing is worn underneath. Fashion bloggers say the shirt is called the Slinky Tank Top, which has been worn by celebrities like Kylie Jenner as well as by several Thai actresses and models. Here’s a video … [Read more...] about Sexy street vendor’s sales spike after busty shirt goes viral

Travel agents call for tourism fee to be postponed until industry recovers

November 26, 2021 by thethaiger.com

The Association of Thai Travel Agents is urging the government to postpone the implementation of a new tourism fee until the sector has fully recovered. Sisdivachr Cheewarattanaporn says Thailand has averaged around 3,000 – 4,000 foreign tourists per day, since re-opening on November 1. According to a Bangkok Post report, he says confidence is low ahead of the coming high season as many target market countries are battling new waves of Covid-19. Added to this is the high cost of PCR testing on arrival. Sisdivachr says the cost in Thailand is often much higher than in countries tourists are arriving from, citing India as an example, where a PCR test costs between 250 and 400 baht. He says the high price Thailand is charging risks deterring tourists. Meanwhile, his colleague, Adith Chairattananon, says tourism operators want more clarity around how the tourism fund will be managed and who will benefit from it. Adith says that to ensure transparency, the government should … [Read more...] about Travel agents call for tourism fee to be postponed until industry recovers

Thai kindergarten forces students to wear military uniform, sparks outrage

May 11, 2022 by thethaiger.com

A Thai kindergarten has been slammed online for forcing students to wear 4 different uniforms, including a “military uniform” on Thursdays. The public school in the western province of Kanchanaburi informed parents they must purchase the new uniforms before the new term begins on May 17. The preschool wants children aged 4 – 6 to wear 4 different uniforms: ‘normal’ school uniform on Monday and Tuesday, a PE uniform on Wednesday, a soldier uniform on Thursday and an “ASEAN” uniform on Friday, which sports an ASEAN flag. The school posted an announcement about the uniform changes on Facebook, which gained a lot of attention from concerned netizens who expressed their dissatisfaction about the costs involved with buying 4 new sets of uniforms, especially in light of the current high costs of living. Netizens in the comments section were mostly concerned about Thursday’s military uniform… “What is the point of the soldier uniform?” “Are we living in North Korea?” Although, … [Read more...] about Thai kindergarten forces students to wear military uniform, sparks outrage
