Mobile phone thieves knock over Phuket shop
PHUKET: Police are searching for a team of thieves that made off with more than 30 mobile phones and about 10,000 baht in cash early Saturday morning. The thieves created a key for the shop shutter of Sapum Mobile on Thepkasattri Road in order to break in. However, they were unable to access the more expensive mobile devices, such as Samsung Galaxies and iPhones, because they are kept in a separate safe, explained Maj Sakol Krainara of Phuket City Police. “The thieves made off with cash and devices worth a combined 70,000 baht. However, we do have CCTV images of the thieves, so we are doing our best to track them down,” said Maj Sakol. “We have collected evidence from the shop, as well as finger prints.” Shop owner Udon Saensip suspects that the thieves had scouted out the place ahead of time and knew that nobody was there at night, added Maj Sakol. — Kritsada Mueanhawong Get more from The Thaiger FREE APP: ANDROID or iOS | HAVE YOUR SAY FORUM | … [Read more...] about Mobile phone thieves knock over Phuket shop

Huawei’s Watch GT 3 Pro Goes Even More Premium With Ceramic Or Titanium Build
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Huawei has been making some of the best looking smartwatches for a few years and at a launch event in Milan yesterday the company launched several more. The headliner is the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro, which comes in titanium or ceramic versions. I got my hands on both models and they are noticeably more premium than the typical Android smartwatch fare. The titanium model comes in 42.9mm or 46.6mm variants, with a 1.32-inch or 1.4 inch OLED screen, respectively. The 466 x 466 displays get plenty bright and are completely visible under the sun. Covering the display is sapphire glass, and the rest of the body is titanium as advertised. This model can come with either a leather strap or titanium band. I am a big fan of the titanium band, which looks significantly more premium than the rubbery straps Samsung and Apple ship with their wearables. The ceramic model is smaller, with a 1.3-inch display and comes in this white color … [Read more...] about Huawei’s Watch GT 3 Pro Goes Even More Premium With Ceramic Or Titanium Build
A Lack Of Consumer Portability And Choice Are Negatively Affecting The Mobile Experience
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The process of transitioning between mobile app ecosystems can be excruciating. In many cases, these ecosystems were explicitly designed to limit interoperability and portability. Messaging services are one of the greatest challenges along with payments, cloud storage, apps and wearables which also limit user portability between platforms. There are many different mobile ecosystems available today, with varying approaches to user data. Ultimately, Moor Insights & Strategy believes that openness and interoperability enable competition and consumer choice, which drives the industry forward towards better products and consumer experiences. In this brief, the first in a two-part series, we’ll examine the different approaches—how they limit consumer choice and the ability to move freely between ecosystems, and how this affects others. We’ll also explore possible solutions to what we perceive to be the most significant … [Read more...] about A Lack Of Consumer Portability And Choice Are Negatively Affecting The Mobile Experience
Book Review: Dana Brown’s Entertaining and Insightful Memoir of Vanity Fair, ‘Dilettante.’
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Upon return from a family vacation three summers ago, economist Ike Brannon remarked at a subsequent lunch about an individual at the resort who was almost literally covered in tattoos. This was an expensive resort, and Brannon wondered how he and his family were sharing the same pool. To be clear, Brannon’s wonderment about the inked up vacationer wasn’t of the nose-upturned variety; rather he wanted to know what profession afforded so much individuality and disposable income. It turns out his poolmate was a chef. To younger readers, the mention of chef likely elicits a “so what?” response. For those born in the 1970s or earlier, the response is different. We remember . We remember when chef was a “dead end” job for, yes, people with tattoos. They were referred to as cooks then. It’s a long or short way of saying that the economic thinker in Brannon was celebrating a happy truth about prosperity: it elevates all manner of … [Read more...] about Book Review: Dana Brown’s Entertaining and Insightful Memoir of Vanity Fair, ‘Dilettante.’
EXCLUSIVE: US-Based Activist Claims A Chinese Agent ‘Weaponized’ The Justice System To Get Him Arrested On Terrorism Charges
Salih Hudayar, the prime minister of the East Turkistan Government in Exile, told The Daily Caller News Foundation that he was framed by a Chinese spy. After being arrested for “terrorism” and interrogated by the FBI in September 2018, Hudayar’s case was suddenly dropped by the state in January 2022 before a Chinese espionage expert could testify that his accuser’s profile was consistent with a Chinese agent. Authorities denied TheDCNF’s Freedom of Information Act request for body worn camera footage showing officers responding to the complainant, but delivered footage showing Hudayar’s interview by the FBI. A prominent Uyghur human rights activist is asking the U.S. Senate to investigate his claim of an ongoing Chinese intelligence operation against him, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned. Salih Hudayar, the prime minister of the East Turkistan Government in Exile, was arrested for “terrorism” in 2018, according to court filings made by his defense; … [Read more...] about EXCLUSIVE: US-Based Activist Claims A Chinese Agent ‘Weaponized’ The Justice System To Get Him Arrested On Terrorism Charges

The $3.2 Billion Man: Can Google’s Newest Star Outsmart Apple?
Lounging poolside in 93-degree July heat as Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” thrums through the patio speakers, Tony Fadell takes a sip of nonalcoholic beer and sinks far enough back into his chair that his belly peeks out from under his Lacoste polo. We’re in the backyard of his Woodside, California, home, not far from the tennis court, barn, and private forested driveway with a horse-crossing sign. The house itself is rather modest, a modern slice of heaven that Fadell spent five years searching for and then two years remodeling, filling its tall, white rooms with state-of-the-art technology and Art Basel–style furniture. He calls its design “classic California.” A 1969 Ford Bronco, which Fadell recently restored with original parts, sits out front. He and his family moved here two and a half years ago, and the place feels lived in–a few kids’ toys are splayed across the kitchen counter–but idyllic. advertisement advertisement Yet Fadell is still sniping at his … [Read more...] about The $3.2 Billion Man: Can Google’s Newest Star Outsmart Apple?
Google Play Bans Twitter Alternative Gab.ai App Over ‘Hate Speech’
Gab.ai, the social media platform that was built as an alternative to Twitter, was banned on Google’s Play Store Thursday. The move will make it impossible for users on Android phones and other Android-powered devices to use the app. According to Google Play Support, the app has been suspended and removed from Google Play as a “policy strike because it violates the hate speech policy” with links to the policy in question. In December, the app — which bills itself as more welcome to free speech than Twitter — was previously rejected by Apple’s App Store. Gab was told by Apple representatives that the application “includes pornographic content” posted by users — despite how Twitter also features similar user-generated content. The move to remove Gab from the Play Store follows in the wake of the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia that left one woman dead. Gab allows users across political spectrum to post politically incorrect speech. Much like Twitter itself, the platform … [Read more...] about Google Play Bans Twitter Alternative Gab.ai App Over ‘Hate Speech’
