Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Great Resignation shows no signs of slowing down. Employers hoping to return to business as usual are in for a rude awakening. There has been a fundamental sea change in what employees expect from the workplace experience, and organizations that do not adapt to meet those new expectations will lose out in a tight labor market. A revealing new survey by Indeed, the world’s number one job site, and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation shows this is especially true with gen Z and young millennial workers—who want to work for employers that value kindness and mental health. Since April 2021, at least four million Americans have been leaving their jobs each month. This ten-month period is the largest exodus of employees on record. Perhaps, as a McKinsey report argues, we should reconsider the term The Great Resignation, which implies a short-lived phenomenon. They suggest The Great Attrition—but also quickly point out … [Read more...] about Indeed And Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation Find Young Workers Put A High Priority On Kindness And Mental Health

New Research Shows Inferior Outcomes In Online College Programs
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Though its growth has been slowing and costs escalating, enrollments in online college classes and programs continue to increase. Remote or “global” programs are a staple at many, even most, colleges now - more or less taken for granted as a viable, essential part of the college learning landscape. It’s flatly remarkable, considering this pervasiveness and acceptance, that we know so little about the learning outcomes of online college. More than two years ago, I asked the question , “What if Online Education Simply Doesn’t Work?” and laid out some evidence that is now generally accepted - that those who are the least prepared and least motivated for academic work, do quite badly in online settings. I also pointed out that the schools with the unquestionably worst outcomes - for-profit colleges - rely heavily, nearly exclusively on online programs. In fact, as of two years ago, two of every three students enrolled at … [Read more...] about New Research Shows Inferior Outcomes In Online College Programs

Inside Redesign Health’s Bid To Change The Healthcare Innovation Cycle
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Often misunderstood, Redesign Health’s model is a very different way to create, fund and launch healthcare startups, but will it pay off over the long term? Typically, a story starts with what a company is. In the case of Redesign Health , perhaps it’s best to start with what it isn’t. Redesign Health is not a venture capital (VC) firm, despite the fact that it's often listed among other VCs in funding press releases . It’s not a startup studio or accelerator, even though it’s named as a partner in building many early-stage healthcare companies. Instead, Redesign Health styles itself as “a company that powers innovation in healthcare by developing technologies, tools, and insights that lower the barriers to change across the industry.” What does that mean? After conversations with Redesign Health CEO Brett Shaheen, in addition to other entrepreneurs in the Redesign Health family, the answer is seemingly … [Read more...] about Inside Redesign Health’s Bid To Change The Healthcare Innovation Cycle
A women’s health micro-neighborhood springs up on Fifth Avenue
On an unassuming corner near Union Square in downtown Manhattan , a slow creep of new businesses have cropped up over the last few months, occupying storefronts that previously housed retailers more typical of lower Fifth Avenue—a now-vacated Eddie Bauer outpost, Bobby Flay’s legendary restaurant Mesa Grill, which shuttered in 2013, and British lingerie store Rigby & Peller. The newcomers— Modern Age , Kindbody , and VSpot , which inked its lease just last week—have clustered, one next to another, near 15th Street. And they share something in common: all these businesses are women-founded and provide women’s health and wellness services. advertisement advertisement That they’re all light-flooded, bright windowed spaces, street-level, with frontage and marquee branding right in the midst of one of New York’s most trafficked shopping districts is perhaps a sign there’s been a seismic shift in the public discourse around women’s healthcare. … [Read more...] about A women’s health micro-neighborhood springs up on Fifth Avenue
U.S. Health System Waste Hits $935 Billion A Year
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Waste in the U.S. healthcare system is $760 billion to $935 billion annually, or 25% of total medical spending, according to a new analysis published in JAMA . It’s long been known that there is waste in the U.S. healthcare system and that has triggered a move away from fee-for-service medicine where insurers and the government have historically paid for volume of healthcare delivered. Instead, health plans are increasingly paying via value-based models that reward doctors and hospitals for achieving quality measures and outcomes. But much work is to be done, according to the JAMA “special communication” and a package of articles and editorials outlining waste in the U.S. health system and potential solutions. “The estimated total costs of waste and potential savings from interventions that address waste are as high as $760 billion to $935 billion and $191 billion to $282 billion, respectively,” Dr. William … [Read more...] about U.S. Health System Waste Hits $935 Billion A Year
Homemade infant formula can be dangerous. Experts share how to feed your baby through the shortage
(CNN) Misinformation about how families can get through the infant formula shortage is fueling concern among pediatricians like Dr. Tanya Altmann. The California doctor has been getting phone calls, emails and social media messages -- not just from her patients but from families all over the United States -- along with photos of empty store shelves that once held infant formula. Parents say they've been to a dozen stores and looked on a hundred websites and can't find their baby's infant formula, and they want to know what to do and whether some of the so-called alternatives they're hearing about are legit. "She would still ask for bananas and ask for juice and ask for snuggles, kind of like she's still there, but not really," she said.
