Meet STEPN, The Crypto App That Promises To Pay You To Get Fit

May 12, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin What would encourage you to do more exercise? The obvious answer, say the founders of STEPN , is cold hard cash. Their move-to-earn running app offers its users cash rewards to get more active and has already persuaded millions of people to sign up in the space of just a few months. It’s a simple enough principle, explains Yawn Rong, co-founder of STEPN. “We wanted to incentivise people to change their behaviour and do more exercise,” he says. “It’s a way to share the benefits of Web3 technologies with a new and diverse pool of fitness enthusiasts.” To participate, users must download the STEPN app and then buy a virtual pair of sneakers in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT). Once they’ve done that, each time they go for a walk, jog or run outside, STEPN’s GPS tracking and motion sensor technology monitors how far they have travelled and rewards them with tokens. These tokens can then be spent inside the game – on … [Read more...] about Meet STEPN, The Crypto App That Promises To Pay You To Get Fit

NFTs are still worth something—just not what you think

May 17, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

You may have a rough idea of what an NFT is: a virtual document that conveys some ownership of a virtual good. As with their cousins, cryptocurrencies, NFTs have the potential to be quite valuable: If you bought the right NFT—say, a CryptoPunks or BoredApeYachtClub cartoon—at the right time, you could have made a fortune. advertisement advertisement With the recent crash of the crypto market , it appears that NFTs were just a bubble gone bust . While true on some level, that doesn’t mean the tech has no utility. Throughout last week, a few yards away from the Caribbean's largest casino in the Bahamian capital, Nassau, about 2,000 people gathered at the Baha Mar resort’s convention center to discuss cryptocurrencies and the next iteration of the World Wide Web a.k.a Web3. Just last month, a similar albeit much larger crowd took over Miami Beach to pay homage to the invention that started it all—bitcoin. But if the 25,000-person expo in South Florida felt like Coachella for the bitcoin faithful , the latest summit, dubbed “Crypto Bahamas”, inched closer in resemblance to the World Economic Forum’s Davos conference, not minding the casual dress code. Pretty much everyone from CEOs to developers wore flip-flops, sneakers, and t-shirts bearing slogans such as “NFTs are a scam” and “Burnt Finance”. Co-organized by billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried’s crypto derivatives exchange FTX and the … [Read more...] about Royal Flush: Inside Crypto’s Most Exclusive Gathering
