Only 27% of companies in Philippines can ward off cyber attacks, says Cisco

Stock photo MANILA  – Only 27 percent of companies in the Philippines have the capability to fend off cybersecurity threats that can disrupt operations, according to a study by global technology company Cisco. In its first-ever Cybersecurity Readiness Index report, Cisco revealed only a small portion of local enterprises were ready against digital attacks even as 85 percent of respondents were expecting a cybersecurity incident to happen in the next 12 to 24 months. The 27 percent are considered at the “mature” stage of cybersecurity defense. Some 43 percent, on the other hand, fall in the “beginner” and “formative” categories. “Mature” stage means companies have achieved advanced stages of cybersecurity technology deployment. In messages to pilots sent Monday, the negotiating committees for both groups said they made progress last week and will keep talking this week. Quality of life issues were cited as key concerns in both messages. Also, United pilots said they still see a gap in economic areas. “This gap is largely driven by our differences in opinion with management on what constitutes an industry-leading agreement,” said negotiators for the United chapter of the Air Line Pilots Association. Thai Eastar Jet CEO faces arrest on breach of trust charges

The CEO of Thai low-cost carrier, Thai Eastar Jet Co., Park Seok-ho, is facing arrest on charges of breach of trust and other offences, according to the Jeonju District Prosecutors Office in Jeonju, South Korea . The prosecution requested a pretrial detention warrant for Park, and a court hearing is set to take place later today, reported Yonhap News Agency. Park was taken into custody on Tuesday, following allegations that he caused economic losses to South Korean low-cost carrier, Eastar Jet , by using its funds to establish Thai Eastar Jet. Thai Eastar Jet, which was established in February 2017, is suspected of being owned by Eastar Jet founder and former Democratic Party lawmaker, Lee Sang-jik. Reports suggest that Lee has been listed as an accomplice to Park in the written arrest warrant request.
