Australia, India, Singapore Help Fuel Executive Search Gains In Asia-Pacific As Covid Impact Wanes

June 21, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Growing demand for business and engineering talent in Australia, India and Singapore is giving a boost to executive search services in the Asia-Pacific as the impact of Covid in the region largely wanes, long-time industry executive and Boyden board member William Farrell said in an interview on Tuesday. “There’s been a lot of strength in the first half,” said Farrell, a managing partner for Taiwan and South Korea who represents the APAC region on the company’s board. “It’s a very good year,” particularly in Southeast Asia markets, he said. Boyden has 75 offices in more than 45 countries; Farrell, an American expatriate, has lived in Asia since 1987 and joined Boyden in 1993. Search companies are benefitting from a shift in multinational strategies away from setting up one large regional hub for their regional operations toward the creation of a larger number of smaller hubs that lower the risks of disruption in any one … [Read more...] about Australia, India, Singapore Help Fuel Executive Search Gains In Asia-Pacific As Covid Impact Wanes

SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): A 1½-year-old boy who came down with Covid-19 has died, said the Ministry of Health. In a statement on Monday night (June 27), MOH said the child died of encephalitis - or inflammation of the brain - due to Covid-19 and two other viruses. The two viruses are the respiratory syncytial virus and the enterovirus. This is Singapore's first death caused by Covid-19 in a patient below 12, MOH said. It added that the boy had no other past medical history and was previously well. He was taken to KK Women's and Children's Hospital's (KKH) Children's Emergency Department on the night of June 21 with a high fever and recurrent seizures, and subsequently began to lose consciousness. He was then admitted to the Children's Intensive Care Unit in critical condition on June 22, and was diagnosed with severe meningoencephalitis. Lee explains Singapore’s approach to dealing with criticism

June 28, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

KIGALI, Rwanda (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): In Singapore's case, the Government's main responsibility is to serve its people, to do the right thing for them, and make sure the country grows, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday (June 27). It therefore has to decide what is right, what direction it wants to take, and how it wants to lead the country forward, said Lee at a joint press conference with Rwandan President Paul Kagame. Lee was in Rwanda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting last week. The Government is also mindful that nobody is right all the time, or has a monopoly on wisdom, and it considers criticisms objectively, he said. Lee was responding to a question from a Rwanda Broadcasting Agency journalist, who noted that Singapore and Rwanda have faced criticism as they developed, and asked what allowed them to pursue their national priorities and stay the course that has resulted in their success. "You may be right, or you may be wrong, … [Read more...] about Lee explains Singapore’s approach to dealing with criticism

Singapore urged to halt execution of another M’sian

June 30, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

PETALING JAYA: Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) has called on Singapore to halt the execution of Kalwant Singh. Kalwant was convicted and sentenced to death on Oct 24, 2013, for allegedly trafficking in 60.15g of diamorphine. The 32-year-old Malaysian is scheduled to be hanged on July 7. LFL director Zaid Malek described the death penalty as an "archaic and brutal form of punishment". "It does not deter serious crime; it is irreversible and the ultimate denial of human rights. "Continuing to hang drug mules whilst knowing full well that drug mules are easily replaceable by drug kingpins shows that Singapore prefers the illusion of taking action instead of actually resolving illicit drug trade in the region," he said in a statement on Thursday (June 30). Noting that the imposition of the death penalty for drug crimes has been declared by the United Nations to be in violation of international law and amounts to unlawful killing, he said that Singapore is in "contradiction to … [Read more...] about Singapore urged to halt execution of another M’sian
