The carrier flew from Incheon to Changi, Singapore, on May 28, and will do so every Wednesday and Saturday. It plans to up the route's flight frequency in the future, aiming to fly the route once a day. T'way Air is now the only low cost carrier to fly the Incheon-Singapore route, with Korean Air Lines and Asiana Airlines the only other airlines flying it. Travellers landing at Changi report missing luggage following chaos at origin airports

June 24, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): An increasing number of travellers flying into Singapore are reporting lost or damaged luggage as a result of issues at their airport of departure amid a global manpower crunch, said Changi Airport's main ground handler Sats. Some travellers also have to wait longer to collect their luggage after arrival, but service targets have otherwise been met for most incoming flights, Sats told The Straits Times. Several airports worldwide - London's Heathrow among them - have been struggling with snaking queues and luggage issues as air travel strongly rebounds. But while Singapore and Asia have largely avoided chaotic airport scenes, industry experts have warned that the region could face similar issues as air travel volumes pick up. The Sats spokesman said: "Issues at origin airports are causing a ripple effect on us and our passengers. "We have noticed an increase in enquiries on missing and damaged luggage from travellers arriving … [Read more...] about Travellers landing at Changi report missing luggage following chaos at origin airports

Airbus A380 Shocker: Lufthansa Brings Back ‘Permanently Decommissioned’ Jet

June 28, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In a surprise announcement, Lufthansa announced this week the return of the Airbus A380. Its return to a not-yet-post-COVID world is shocking, especially as its longtime rival, the Boeing 747, is being smelted down to make credit cards . The double-decker superjumbo is one of the largest commercial aircraft in the world, especially since the unfortunate destruction of Ukraine’s Antonov-225 . Certainly the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380 is 73 meters long and 24 meters high. Lufthansa’s version can seat 509 passengers. But Lufthansa had announced the aircraft’s retirement in 2020, as newer twin-engine widebodies like the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 were less costly to operate and easier to fill with passengers. The four-engine A380 is only profitable with a high load factor, and only the world’s largest airports have facilities to handle the aircraft. Such reasons led Lufthansa CEO to declare the … [Read more...] about Airbus A380 Shocker: Lufthansa Brings Back ‘Permanently Decommissioned’ Jet

Majority of international travel to Phuket is from India

June 28, 2022 by thethaiger.com

The majority of international visitors to Phuket since the beginning of 2022 came from India, but half of the hotels on the island remain closed as they wait for the high season to begin. Even if the number of arrivals doubled by the end of the year, Phuket’s tourist numbers are still falling well short of pre-Covid levels. Between May and June, there were around 52,000 Indian travellers in Phuket, followed by Singaporeans, just under 20,000 travellers during the same time. With direct flights from Thai Smile Airways, Go First Airlines and Indigo Airlines linking Phuket with major cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai, the prospect for the Indian market next month still looks promising. The hospitality industry in Phuket is slowly, very slowly, gaining momentum since the beginning of 2022, with the Thai Hotels Association 40% of available hotel rooms booked in May. Most of the visitors are from India, Singapore, Australia and the United Kingdom, according to the … [Read more...] about Majority of international travel to Phuket is from India

Capital A could fetch higher valuations in US markets

June 28, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

This article first appeared in The Edge Malaysia Weekly, on June 20, 2022 - June 26, 2022. - A + A GIVEN that investors accept higher valuations for technology companies going public in the US, aviation analysts say it is not surprising that Capital A Bhd (CapA) is considering listing its low-cost AirAsia airline and digital businesses on the New York Stock Exchange. They believe, however, that now is not the right time. On June 12, the Financial Times reported executive director and CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes as saying that CapA was considering two separate listings in the US, one for AirAsia “sometime next year”, followed by its super app, which offers services from travel to takeaways. A senior investment banker who asked not to be named says while there is a rebound in air travel amid the easing of travel restrictions and rising demand — a trend experts term “revenge travel” — airline stocks are not fetching the kind of valuations that Fernandes … [Read more...] about Capital A could fetch higher valuations in US markets
