Roger Daltrey On All-Things Who, Including His Relationship With Pete Townshend And Keith Moon
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In the first part of this exclusive interview series with The Who legend Roger Daltrey, we focussed on his U.S. charity, Teen Cancer America. During that chat, it was evident that Daltrey’s passion for the cause is immense. Here, we switch gears, focus more on The Who, and we go a ways back. Daltrey was thoughtful but funny at the same time during our 40-minute Zoom interview. Following are edited excerpts from a longer conversation. Jim Clash: I once asked Art Garfunkel about his relationship with Paul Simon. The two, of course, have been doing gigs almost as long as you and Pete Townshend have. Art said that their history is like the weather. How would you describe your relationship with Pete? Roger Daltrey: What kind of weather [laughs]? Our relationship is a working one, and that’s about as far as it goes. But when we get on stage, there’s a chemistry that’s created. When we’re playing well, it starts to kick in … [Read more...] about Roger Daltrey On All-Things Who, Including His Relationship With Pete Townshend And Keith Moon

These frozen coffee pods are the future of barista-quality coffee at home
Each morning for the past two weeks, I’ve taken out a tiny aluminum capsule from my freezer. Inside is a small, frozen puck of coffee, which I pop in a glass and pour a few tablespoons of boiling water over from my kettle. As a Bostonian, I’ll drink iced coffee in a tundra, so I add ice cubes, top off the glass with almond milk and water, and toss the capsule into the recycling bin. And that’s the beauty of Cometeer . advertisement advertisement The new-ish company sells K-cup size capsules of flash-frozen brewed coffee, that are stashed in your freezer and reconstituted with hot water. They can also chill in your fridge or counter (or carry-on, as the company emphasizes, the capsules are TSA-compliant) for up to 24-hours and be added to cold water (or ice cream for affogato) once it melts. The capsules don’t explode or go bad if left defrosted, but the brand says the 24-hour window is when the “full complexity” is at its peak freshness. Tough act to follow: Celebs ’fond memories of Cherie Gil
Cherie Gil True to Cherie Gil’s iconic line, “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat,” she’s a tough act to follow. The primera contrabida left a void in the biz that nobody else can fill. Bravo, Cherie, for a life well-lived and for being so well-loved. As my little tribute to Cherie, I asked some of her peers to share their fondest memory of the incredible Eigenmann woman. Vilma Santos Vilma Santos: I will always remember Cherie as a true friend, a very sincere person, a real artist, kalog at napakasayang kasama. Nabawasan tayo ng icon. Ricky Davao Ricky Davao: When I was 16, I would always go to the house of Tita Rosemarie Gil to spend the whole day with Michael and Mark. One time, I saw a very shy Cherie, who was around 13 years old at the time. Hindi pa kami nag-uusap nun, “hi, hello” lang, but she was now making these jokes on the set. She always shone bright, and I feel blessed to have this and so many other memories with her and her … [Read more...] about Tough act to follow: Celebs ’fond memories of Cherie Gil
Trouble in paradise: ‘House of the Dragon’ showrunners on the Targaryens’ generational war
Milly Alcock in “House of the Dragon” As they say, the past is never where you think you left it. But that’s exactly where the creators of HBO’s “House of the Dragon” (HOTD), the eagerly anticipated prequel of “Game of Thrones” (GoT), wish to take its viewers—a monumental task that is as exciting as it is ambitious. Long before the Starks and the Lannisters found themselves fighting tooth and nail over power, birth right and survival, it was the House Targaryen that once ruled all Seven Kingdoms on the continent of Westeros. And why not? The Targaryens are mystical people with magic in their blood, so why shouldn’t anybody with the ability to control dragons be allowed to sit on the Iron Throne at King’s Landing? Last week, we spoke to HOTD’s showrunners, writer-cocreator Ryan Condal and director Miguel Sapochnik, in a roundtable interview to discuss the 10-episode series. “House of the Dragon”, which launches on HBO Go on Aug. 22, is based on author George RR Martin’s “Fire … [Read more...] about Trouble in paradise: ‘House of the Dragon’ showrunners on the Targaryens’ generational war

An Easy Explanation Of What Happens When The Federal Reserve Bank Raises Interest Rates
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The job market and the economy will be in bad shape for a while. With all the chatter about inflation and a recession, it's hard to understand what is happening. Let’s break it down. A combination of pent-up demand from the pandemic, supply chain disruptions , trillions of dollars flooded into the market from the Federal Reserve Bank, and massive fiscal stimulus packages from both the Trump and Biden administrations helped stoke inflation . Runaway inflation is ruinous to a country. The costs spiral out of control. The poor are disproportionately impacted, as they generally don't have emergency funds or the ability to earn more than the rising inflation rate to keep their heads above water. To decrease the adverse impact of inflation, Jerome Powell, the head of the Federal Reserve Bank, announced that he would raise interest rates to battle inflation and cool down the economy. If you have been looking to … [Read more...] about An Easy Explanation Of What Happens When The Federal Reserve Bank Raises Interest Rates
Creating The Culture You Want To See In Your Company
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When Melissa Daimler , Chief Learning Officer at Udemy, and an expert on developing positive and productive company cultures, sat down to write a book on the topic, she had already reviewed every book, article, and research paper she could get her hands on dedicated to the subject. One thing that stood out to her was a growing frustration building as she read the many definitions of “organizational culture.” Too many treated it as a nebulous, undefined thing that sat solely in HR’s domain. In her view, there was not enough that existed on the topic of intentionally designing culture in a workplace—and, as if to mirror that desire for intentionality, she went out and wrote that book herself. The result is ReCulturing: Design Your Company Culture to Connect with Strategy and Purpose for Lasting Success . Daimler uses systems thinking as a backdrop to managing culture in an organization, positing that culture isn’t … [Read more...] about Creating The Culture You Want To See In Your Company
