Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Instagram is slowly becoming an app where you go to interact with ads instead of sharing media with friends. First, it introduced ads in the home feed, then made the feed an endless loop to put in more ads, and now it’s introducing ads to the search results page. The company doesn’t yet allow you to post media in comments (it started testing GIFs in comments, that hasn’t received a global rollout yet), else I’m pretty sure that it would show you ads in the comments as well. Instagram has introduced two new ad products. According to a blog post by the company, these will give “businesses more ways to get discovered and form meaningful connections.” I’d like to interact with this person who is using Instagram to form meaningful connections with brands, and making the company roll out such features. Instagram has partnered with companies such as Starz to test a new ad format called Reminder ads. It will let businesses … [Read more...] about Instagram Wants You To See More Ads Than Anything Else

We Finally Have Shazam Fighting Black Adam, On Instagram
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Attempting to figure out just why exactly Shazam! Fury of the Gods performed so poorly at the box office has taken a messy turn. This past week, my former Forbes colleague Scott Mendelson, now at The Wrap, posted a lengthy article expanding on The Rock’s meddling in the Shazam franchise as an attempt to elevate Black Adam and his newly created JSA. While we knew that The Rock had no desire for Black Adam to face Shazam, his actual comic arch-rival, in favor of an eventual showdown with Superman, and that he turned down even a cameo role in Shazam, The Wrap reports that The Rock actively vetoed a post-credits scene in which Shazam is recruited by Hawkman into the JSA that was meant to go at the end of Black Adam, which was obviously replaced by the now infamous Cavill Superman cameo. And then he again vetoed members of the JSA showing up in a post-credits scene for Shazam! Fury of the Gods. It’s not just that this … [Read more...] about We Finally Have Shazam Fighting Black Adam, On Instagram
How Brands Can Prepare For A ‘TikTok-Less’ Future
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin With its engaging and innovative platform for sharing short-form video capturing the attention of younger audiences globally, TikTok has quickly become a powerful marketing tool for many brands. However, the app has also faced controversy, from calls to ban it entirely in the U.S. to numerous universities actually banning its use on their campus networks. This raises the question of what brands that have invested heavily in TikTok marketing should do to prepare for a potential future without the platform. Below, members of Forbes Agency Council recommend steps brands can take to retain their online followers and communities and ensure that they are prepared for any possible changes to the social media landscape should TikTok become an unavailable channel. 1. Move Your Audience To An Owned Platform The problem with building a brand on a social platform is that you don’t own the social platform. So when it comes to … [Read more...] about How Brands Can Prepare For A ‘TikTok-Less’ Future

Is That Dead ‘Destiny 2’ Character Actually Dead?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin During Tuesday reset, Destiny 2 players were subjected to a jarring story beat, the death of a character that was simultaneously pretty clearly telegraphed this season, but at the same time, felt a bit…abrupt. Spoilers follow. I’m talking about Amanda Holliday , the non-Guardian, human pilot that went on a dangerous rescue mission to free prisoners from the Shadow Legion, and ended getting herself blown up because the entire endeavor was a trap, which we more or less knew going in. Perhaps the comment that sums up many people’s thoughts after this is one I saw in my mentions: “So, what’s Amanda’s Ghost’s name gonna be?” The idea here is that Amanda can be resurrected and become a Guardian herself, except…I don’t actually see that happening. There are actually two separate questions here: First, is this something that can even happen in the lore, given recent events? Second, is this something Bungie would … [Read more...] about Is That Dead ‘Destiny 2’ Character Actually Dead?
I Am Scared Of ‘Diablo 4’
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The first Diablo 4 beta is over and the second is about to start in this weekend . This is ahead of a June release that does not appear to be getting pushed back, despite problems and Blizzard and the general tradition of AAA games getting delayed a million times. I am kind of dreading its arrival. Why? Because based on what I’ve seen, and now what I’ve played, I’m feeling an old itch. The looter itch that caused me to sink thousands upon thousands of hours into Diablo 2 and 3, often neglecting my real life to do so. And now here, two decades after Diablo 2 and one decade after Diablo 3, I’m in a different phase of life with more at stake. I can’t let myself get fully consumed by this series again. Video game addiction is real, and it ain’t good. Playing games for a living like I do, it can be hard to differentiate between simply playing a lot of games and playing specific games obsessively. I can say with certainty … [Read more...] about I Am Scared Of ‘Diablo 4’
What Is The Mandalorian’s Grogu Endgame?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Look, I love Grogu. You love Grogu. We all love Grogu. But the longer The Mandalorian goes on , a show that Jon Favreau has said does not really have an end in sight, I do have to wonder where they’re taking the former Baby Yoda, given the events of the past two seasons. For a while, the main “questline” of The Mandalorian made sense. Protect Grogu and get him to the Jedi where they could develop his Force powers. That culminated in the (in)famous season 2 finale in which a digital post-ROTJ Luke Skywalker showed up to personally train Grogu at his newly formed Jedi Academy. But the show quickly understood that Grogu couldn’t be written out, as if that was ever the plan in the first place, so that idea was killed off in of all places, The Book of Boba Fett, where its standalone Mando episodes had Grogu actively rejecting Jedi training after learning how to do some backflips, and choosing instead to return to The … [Read more...] about What Is The Mandalorian’s Grogu Endgame?
Xbox’s ‘Redfall’ Is Trying To Kill Its Much-Hated Always Online Requirement
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin At this point, it is not exactly a shock when any video game demands that you be online at all times, even if you’re playing single player. It’s an annoyance, but it’s also a bit par for the course with most games these days. Enter Redfall, where despite the ability to play solo rather than with a co-op squad, the game needs to always be online. That decision was of course, criticized, but the surprising thing here is that Arkane may actually be attempting to change it, either before or after release (probably after). Speaking to Eurogamer , game director Harvey Smith had a surprising take on the whole thing, as he says dismissing gamer concerns over the issue “lacks empathy,” and even though yes, almost everything in the gaming industry is online now, that he understands where people are coming from. Smith says that they are actively working on changing this at some point, even if he’s not fully making a … [Read more...] about Xbox’s ‘Redfall’ Is Trying To Kill Its Much-Hated Always Online Requirement
