Reviewing the plans for a £300 million extension at Meadowhall will create ‘the perfect counterpoint’ to the regeneration of Sheffield city centre, the council has said, after it emerged the mall’s joint owner had gone back to the drawing board on the huge development. British Land is rethinking the 330,000 sq ft Leisure Hall in a bid to cut the number of shops within the scheme, putting more emphasis on food, drink and other activities as the retail sector struggles. Sheffield chosen as new home for National Videogame Arcade
0 Have your say Sheffield has been chosen as the location for the national headquarters of an agency dedicated to video games. The BGI, the national agency for games modelled on the British Film Institute, will open its headquarters at the Sheffield Jollider - a new hub for creative and techonology industries currently being developed in the former Co-op Castle House in Castlegate.The BGI will move the National Videogame Arcade from its current home in Nottingham to the new premises. The National Videogame Arcade will close to the public in Nottingham in mid-September, before opening again in Sheffield in late October 2018.BGI will maintain an educational and research facility in Nottingham, where it will also run the GameCity festival later in 2018.The attraction currently welcomes more than 50,000 visitors per annum to learn about games culture and development.Rick Gibson, chief executive of BGI, said: "Our move to Sheffield is a big statement for BGI.
