June 29, 2022 by www.thejakartapost.com

Carolyn Cohn and Kirstin Ridley (Reuters) (The Jakarta Post) PREMIUM London   ● Wed, June 29 2022 The war in Ukraine is making it hard for even unsanctioned Russians to sell exclusive residential property in the United Kingdom, adding to a shortage of supply that has helped drive up house prices in prime locations, real estate sources say. Russian oligarchs, Middle Eastern oil barons and billionaire Chinese entrepreneurs have been on a spending spree on London real estate over the past three decades, snapping up trophy homes and high-end commercial property. But the 4-month-old invasion of Ukraine, which Russia calls a special military operation, has prompted the UK to slap sanctions on more than 1,100 Russians it says have ties to the Kremlin, spreading unease and freezing house sales in so-called Londongrad, agents say. to Read Full Story SUBSCRIBE NOW Starting from IDR 55,500/month Unlimited access to our web and app content e-Post daily digital … [Read more...] about Boost for luxury London real estate prices as Russians locked in

Majority of international travel to Phuket is from India

June 28, 2022 by thethaiger.com

The majority of international visitors to Phuket since the beginning of 2022 came from India, but half of the hotels on the island remain closed as they wait for the high season to begin. Even if the number of arrivals doubled by the end of the year, Phuket’s tourist numbers are still falling well short of pre-Covid levels. Between May and June, there were around 52,000 Indian travellers in Phuket, followed by Singaporeans, just under 20,000 travellers during the same time. With direct flights from Thai Smile Airways, Go First Airlines and Indigo Airlines linking Phuket with major cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai, the prospect for the Indian market next month still looks promising. The hospitality industry in Phuket is slowly, very slowly, gaining momentum since the beginning of 2022, with the Thai Hotels Association 40% of available hotel rooms booked in May. Most of the visitors are from India, Singapore, Australia and the United Kingdom, according to the … [Read more...] about Majority of international travel to Phuket is from India

Lalit Modi’s enduring legacy: IPL, and cricket’s changing economy

June 18, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi at a sports management conference in London, United Kingdom, in 2010. (Image: Action Images/Jed Leicester via Reuters) Earlier this week, media rights for the 2023-27 cycle of the Indian Premier league (IPL) – television and digital rights combined – were sold at an astounding Rs 48,390 crore , nearly triple what the Board of Control for Cricket in India  (BCCI) got for them in the 2018-22 cycle. The five seasons will amount to 370 matches, which means the BCCI will earn INR 49.6 lakh per ball – and that is just from broadcasting. One can see why channels pay such exorbitant amounts to cover the IPL. A league-stage clash (not a playoffs match) between the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in 2021 was watched by 367 million. The 2019 World Cup final – the most high-profile international match – attracted a mere 167 million, while the Boxing Day Test match of the 2021/22 Ashes was watched by a mere 440,000. The numbers … [Read more...] about Lalit Modi’s enduring legacy: IPL, and cricket’s changing economy
