- A + A BANGKOK (June 26): Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of former Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra, is the top choice of voters to lead the Southeast Asian nation after it holds a general election in less than a year, according to an opinion poll. Paetongtarn, who is widely tipped to be the prime minister candidate of the nation's largest opposition party Pheu Thai, got 25% backing of the respondents in a June 20-23 survey by the National Institute of Development Administration, known as NIDA. While Paetongtarn vaulted to the top of the popularity chart from her third position in a March survey, incumbent Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha saw his support slide for a fourth straight quarter to 12%, NIDA said. The number of participants who said they could not find a suitable candidate fell to 19% from 28% in March. Pita Limcharoenrat, a leader of the opposition Move Forward Party, saw his support little changed at 13%. Engage In Meaningful Conversations To Relieve Stress
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin By Dianna Booher— Would a great conversation substitute for your next Advil or Valium? You might be surprised. In fact, consider the following “check-up” questions related to your personal communication habits: Has your talk at work become nothing more than a recital of the day’s news or project updates? Has your talk at home become nothing more than an exchange of schedules and to-do’s? What’s the most significant discussion you’ve had in the past month? (Does nothing come to mind?) How long has it been since someone really listened to you about a troubling situation? If your answers cause sadness rather than satisfaction, then you may need a communication adjustment. In fact, have you noticed that many of your colleagues, clients—and maybe even family members––resist a real conversation? Ten days ago I opened a ticket with the support team on a publishing site because my login no longer worked. … [Read more...] about Engage In Meaningful Conversations To Relieve Stress

CAP calls for harsher penalties on parents allowing unlicensed kids drive
GEORGE TOWN: Harsher penalties are needed against vehicle owners who allow unlicensed individuals to use their vehicles, says the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP). Its education officer N.V. Subbarow said it was shocking to learn that 55,000 vehicle owners have allowed unlicensed individuals to drive their vehicles on the road. "This is dangerous. We urge the authorities to revoke the driving licences of these vehicle owners as well as not allow them to renew their road tax for a year. "The parents should be produced in court as we need strict law on this. "This will teach other vehicle owners a lesson," he said in a statement on Sunday (June 26). Subbarow said the longer the delay in taking action, the higher chances that the number of unlicensed individuals would rise and accident rates could go up. "We urge the authorities not to compromise with these vehicle owners as they are a cause of road accidents," he said. On Saturday (June 25), the Road Transport … [Read more...] about CAP calls for harsher penalties on parents allowing unlicensed kids drive
Talking To Children About Pride
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Talking to kids about sexuality is a topic fraught with emotion for most parents. But when it comes to how to talk to kids of straight parents about the LGBTQ+ community, many adults tend to overcomplicate what can be a very straightforward conversation. Luckily for parents of all sexual orientations, the number of influencers and authors offering tips, resources, books and simply sharing what it’s like to be part of a queer family online is increasing every day. And, spoiler alert: it’s not drastically different than straight families. I spoke to author Wallace West who wrote gender nonconforming picture book, Mighty Red Riding Hood: A Queer Fairy Tale , parenting influencers Terrell and Jarius Joseph and home decor influencers PJ & Thomas , also known as “The Property Lovers,” about queer parenting, education and teaching kids about allyship. This line in the Supreme Court abortion ruling signals gay marriage and contraception could be next
In another monumental 6-3 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday eliminated the federal right to an abortion, striking down the protection granted by the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 and now leaving rights and regulations to states. advertisement advertisement The consequences of the decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization will be severe, and in some cases, immediate: Many states have “trigger bans,” allowing abortion prohibitions to go into law right away. Other states intended to put into place bans after the decision was published, which was all but certain following a leak of the draft in May. But the consequences of the broad decision could be even more far-reaching than women’s rights to abortions, namely placing in danger the legal rights to contraception, same-sex marriage, and even private sexual relationships. The basis of the decision, in the opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito, was that the right to abortion … [Read more...] about This line in the Supreme Court abortion ruling signals gay marriage and contraception could be next

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline The World Health Organization announced Saturday the spread of monkeypox does not yet constitute a public health emergency, but WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said "serious concerns about the scale and speed of the current outbreak" remain. Key Facts A WHO panel made the determination at an emergency meeting called to determine if the escalating spread of monkeypox qualifies as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), which would push countries to take action to limit the virus’ spread. The committee noted that most monkeypox cases during the recent uptick have been confined to communities of “gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men” who are not vaccinated against smallpox, but warned there is “a risk of further, sustained transmission into the wider population that should not be overlooked.” The committee’s decision was not unanimous, but its members … [Read more...] about WHO Says Monkeypox Isn’t A Global Health Emergency Yet—But Raises ‘Serious Concerns’ About Spread

Polish, Ukrainian activists march for LGBTQ rights
Revelers watch a performance in a nightclub during an LGBTQ event as the Kyiv Pride Parade was cancelled due to Russia’s military invasion launched on Ukraine, in Kyiv, on June 25, 2022. AFP WARSAW — Ukrainians were among tens of thousands of LGBTQ activists who took part in the Polish capital’s Pride parade Saturday, in a country hosting tens of thousands of Ukrainians who have fled the Russian invasion. The march however started with a minute of silence for two people killed in a shooting near a gay bar in Norway’s capital Oslo in the early hours of Saturday. Norwegian police have arrested a man suspected of “Islamist terrorism” over the shooting, which also wounded 21 and caused Oslo’s Pride to be called off. But Norway’s ambassador to Poland Anders Eide said love and justice would “prevail”. “Our fight for equal rights for all and our support for the LGBTQ+ community is unequivocal and it will remain so,” he told AFP at the start of the procession.
