ABERDEEN, S.D. — Brandi Jo Hanson’s lucky numbers will pay dividends to the tune of $1,000 a day for the rest of her life. The 23-year-old Aberdeen resident claimed her life-changing prize from the South Dakota Lottery after becoming the state’s first Lucky for Life top prize winner, according to a news release from the South Dakota Lottery. Hanson purchased her ticket at Ken’s SuperFair Foods in Aberdeen prior to the Dec. 31 drawing. “I feel very blessed. I’m very grateful,” Hanson said in the release. “It’s life-changing. It’s a little overwhelming.” In an interview with lottery officials, Hanson said at first she entertained taking the lump-sum payout, but she soon realized the long-term payouts could be much higher. She’s consulted with a financial adviser, and they have a plan. With just hours to spare before it expired, an 84-year-old Canton man claimed a winning Michigan Lottery Lucky for Life ticket. Robert Hissom collected the prize Wednesday on behalf of his family lottery club, The Hissom Lottery Club, according to the Michigan Lottery. "I buy tickets every week for Lucky For Life and after I check them, I tuck them away if they aren’t winners," Hissom told the Michigan Lottery when he claimed the prize with his daughter and son. That could be a problem next week once the ticket expires on Wednesday at 4:45 p.m. The winning ticket was purchased at the Picnic Basket Marketplace at 49471 Ann Arbor Road in Plymouth. It matched the five white balls drawn Jan. 1 — 15-18-25-31-35. Jan. 1 is a holiday, that's why the winner has until 4:45 p.m. Jan. 2 to claim the prize.
