Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In 2021, Booz Allen Hamilton analysts surmised that China will surpass Europe and the US in quantum-related research and development and that Chinese hackers could soon target heavily encrypted datasets such as weapon designs or details of undercover intelligence officers with a view to unlocking them at a later date when quantum computing makes decryption possible. In the report titled “Chinese threats in the quantum era”, BAH said “encrypted data with intelligence longevity, like biometric markers, covert intelligence officer and source identities, social security numbers, and weapons’ designs, may be increasingly stolen under the expectation that they can eventually be decrypted,” the report says. It says “state-aligned cyber threat actors” will start to steal or intercept previously unusable encrypted data. Accelerate Speed Of Data And AI-Driven Business Value With Time Series Technology
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin CEO of KX , the creator of kdb+, a time series database and real-time analytics engine. The most valuable commodity on Earth cannot be renewed or replicated: time. It is the key dimension of every system that is observable in the world. It also marches on, meaning the window in which you can extract value from time is fleeting. This is why its observability is so crucial. A system is observable if its current or future state can be determined by only the information from outputs, such as sensor or machine data. This is known as time series data or time-stamped data—a stream of digital data representing observations or events that happen in sequence. According to Gartner , “By 2026, 70% of organizations successfully applying observability will achieve shorter latency for decision making, enabling competitive advantage.” As every company becomes more data-driven, the volume and velocity of data … [Read more...] about Accelerate Speed Of Data And AI-Driven Business Value With Time Series Technology
A breach at LastPass has password lessons for us all
While many of us were unplugging from the internet to spend time with loved ones over the holidays, LastPass, the maker of a popular security program for managing digital passwords, delivered the most unwanted gift. It published details about a recent security breach in which cybercriminals had obtained copies of customers’ password vaults, potentially exposing millions of people’s online information. From a hacker’s perspective, this is the equivalent of hitting the jackpot. When you use a password manager like LastPass or 1Password, it stores a list containing all of the user names and passwords for the sites and apps you use, including banking, health care, email and social networking accounts. It keeps track of that list, called the vault, in its online cloud so you have easy access to your passwords from any device. LastPass said hackers had stolen copies of the list of user names and passwords of every customer from the company’s servers. This breach was one of the worst … [Read more...] about A breach at LastPass has password lessons for us all

Four Steps To Self-Service Data Governance Success
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin James Beecham is the CTO and cofounder of ALTR . James holds multiple software patents and a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. In the first century, Greek professor Heron of Alexandria created a coin-operated machine to dispense holy water. Back then, visitors to the city temples took more holy water than they paid for. His vending machine applied levers and countermeasures to give people only what they had permission to get. This arguably was the introduction to self-service governance. Since then, many industries have grown self-service models—often focused on enabling nontechnical users, including information technology and data analytics. The popularity of self-service analytics has exposed a need for better data and access security. As you open up sensitive information like customer personally identifiable information (PII) for self-service research and BI projects, you need to make governance … [Read more...] about Four Steps To Self-Service Data Governance Success
