China’s first publicly traded rental property REITs snapped up by investors
SHANGHAI – China’s first batch of publicly traded rental property real estate investment trusts (REITs) was snapped up in Shanghai and Shenzhen by yield-hungry investors this week, opening up a new financing channel for the struggling real estate sector. The three newly launched REITs, based on affordable rental properties, were each more than 100 times oversubscribed among institutional investors, managers said in filings. The REITs will raise a combined 3.8 billion yuan ($56 million), based on Reuters’ calculations, and the subscription periods ended early. The rental property REIT launches come as Beijing steps up efforts to aid the real estate business, a sector that was a pillar of growth in the world’s second-biggest economy over the last two decades but is now reeling amid debt piles, mortgage boycotts and sluggish sales. China launched a public REITs market based on infrastructure projects about a year ago, but this week’s launches mark the first time the REIT market has … [Read more...] about China’s first publicly traded rental property REITs snapped up by investors
Makati court sets aside void order vs Gatchalian’s P34-B reclamation project
A Makati City court has set aside an earlier order voiding the disputed P34-billion Manila Bay reclamation venture of the Gatchalian family, calling the decision last April “premature.” This involved the 2017 joint venture agreement for the Manila Waterfront City, a sprawling mixed-use development spanning 318 hectares that would be located west of the Quirino Grandstand up to the breakwater of Manila South Harbor. The project was assailed by petitioner Asean Seas Resources and Construction Development Corp., which claims overlapping rights in the area that was awarded three decades ago during the term of the late president Corazon “Cory” Aquino. But on Aug. 4, the Makati court said the petitioner failed to “implead” the Office of the President, which it said was an indispensable party, when it sued the joint venture parties and stakeholders Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA), the City of Manila and Gatchalian-led Waterfront Manila Premier Development Corp. The President … [Read more...] about Makati court sets aside void order vs Gatchalian’s P34-B reclamation project
Who is Drew Findling? #BillionDollarLawyer defends Trump in Georgia election probe
It’s hard to keep track of all Donald Trump’s legal woes, both in and out of office, not to mention the cast of characters who’ve been hired to defend the former president. In Georgia, a grand jury is inquiring into Trump’s seeming attempt to change the outcome of the state’s 2020 election results, including the infamous call in which he requested the secretary of state “find 11,780 votes.” In this particular legal battle, instead of turning to another haphazard right-wing media pundit to defend him, Trump has tapped the famed #BillionDollarLawyer, Drew Findling. Here’s what we know about Trump’s new lawyer: advertisement Trump and Findling are polar opposites. According to Findling’s social media presence , he is a pro-choice, anti-mass-incarceration advocate who gives speeches on defending battered woman syndrome cases. Findling and his new conservative client do have one thing in common: They’ve been regulars on Fox News. Findling has shared … [Read more...] about Who is Drew Findling? #BillionDollarLawyer defends Trump in Georgia election probe

Shoppers wear mask and fill Cologne’s main shopping street Hohe Strasse (High Street) in Cologne, Germany. REUTERS/Wolfgang Rattay/ File phto BRUSSELS – Euro zone inflation reached a new record high of 8.9 percent year-on-year in July, the EU’s statistics office confirmed on Thursday, with the core measure, excluding the most volatile components and key for monetary policy, also sharply up. The European Union’s statistics office Eurostat said consumer prices in the 19 countries using the euro rose 0.1 percent month-on-month in July for a 8.9 percent year-on-year increase, the highest since the euro was created in 1999. Eurostat said that of the total, 4.02 percentage points came from more expensive energy — the costs of which surged because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — and 2.08 percentage points from more expensive food alcohol and tobacco. But even when these most volatile components are excluded, in what the European Central Bank calls core inflation and watches closely … [Read more...] about Euro zone July inflation confirmed at 8.9% y/y, core measure sharply up
Geely doubles down on EVs, exports after disappointing earnings
- A + A (Aug 18): Chinese carmaker Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd plans to double down on its efforts to boost the sale of electric vehicles (EVs) as well as bolster exports as it seeks to recover from disappointing first-half earnings that were pummelled by Covid-19 lockdowns and supply chain snarls.
