(Representational image: Hope Film Photo via Unsplash) Last March 52-year-old Shruti Pandey found that she couldn't get up from her seat after a 2.5-hour video conference. The Delhi-based lawyer and professor had been giving a lecture to students via video. “I had acute pain in my back, and it felt like my lower back had completely seized. I used to do suryanamaskars and walk up to 15km at a go… I felt fit and healthy, and never imagined I could be incapacitated like this because of a physiological issue,” she said. When the pain didn't subside after a couple of days, she turned to her friend Abhishek Sharma, a celebrity yoga and holistic lifestyle coach in Mumbai. “Abhishek agreed to help me deal with this acute pain without medication,” she added. In Bengaluru, Prasanth S.A., 45, had developed a stiff neck. Avalanche prepares for second chance to hoist the Stanley Cup — this time in Tampa
TAMPA, Fla. — It was another maintenance morning for a handful of Avalanche forwards on Sunday at Amalie Arena. Gabe Landeskog, Nazem Kadri, Valeri Nichushkin and Andre Burakovsky each skipped the skate ahead of Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Colorado coach Jared Bednar said he’s hopeful all four banged-up forwards will be available to play as the club prepares for its second consecutive chance to win the Stanley Cup. Landeskog has had an ailment that has prevented him from participating in morning skates throughout the postseason. Kadri is hoping to play in his third straight game after returning from a broken thumb. Nichushkin sustained a lower-body injury in Friday’s Game 5. And Burakovsky has missed the last three games with a hand/wrist injury. The Avs, who failed to close out the series in a 3-2 loss on Friday at Ball Arena, are 8-1 on the road this postseason and have won their three previous series outside Denver. “Our team is … [Read more...] about Avalanche prepares for second chance to hoist the Stanley Cup — this time in Tampa

Behind Ace Hotel Founder Alex Calderwood’s Creative Life And Untimely Death
You know the place, even if you haven’t been there. advertisement advertisement From the outside, it has a spare, severe look. But inside, past the flower stall and barbershop, the vibe is serene and hushed. Long tables and worn leather chairs invite people to cluster; the scent of locally roasted coffee mixes with the sound of the nearby photo booth, whirring in the background. There are vintage records on the shelves and slinky indie pop on the speakers, and the late afternoon sunlight makes puddles on the century-old wood floor. The feeling is both of the moment and timeless. To a remarkable extent, this place, the Ace Hotel, is the brainchild of a single man, a lean, mop-haired native of the Pacific Northwest named Alexander Calderwood. A kind of hipster polymath, he was able to look around the corners of culture and see what was coming years, if not decades, before everyone else. In his 20-year career, Calderwood cofounded a barbershop, a … [Read more...] about Behind Ace Hotel Founder Alex Calderwood’s Creative Life And Untimely Death

Riding the green wave
Only two weeks after decriminalising cannabis, Thailand is experiencing a green rush. Since June 9, when the legalisation of marijuana for home and commercial use took effect, almost 1 million people registered to grow it with food and drug officials, while more than 40 million have checked out the registration platform. There's a growing public interest in the cash crop -- though some farmers remain doubtful -- and it is paving the way for "cannabis journalism". Legalisation is not new in some parts of the world. In the wake of legalising recreational marijuana in Colorado in 2012, Ricardo Baca, a veteran journalist, launched The Cannabist , an outlet dedicated to the coverage of marijuana, in late 2013. In an article, he said his editors at The Denver Post asked him to start the project. In fact, their coverage of weed dates back to medical legalisation in 2000. I tried to check the website, but it is not available in this region. While a cannabis press does not exist here, … [Read more...] about Riding the green wave
How The Most Successful People Work From Home
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I’ve been working from home since it was out of fashion. A dozen years ago my new company provided an office stipend which I used for a corner desk from Crate & Barrel. My next purchase was an over-sized, black leather desk chair that looked like something out of a mob movie. Fast forward to present day — and there are many elements worth thinking about when working from home. I’ve consulted with experts to uncover what those essentials are. Furniture and office equipment are table stakes, but as we’ve discovered working from home can blur the lines between work and life. Creating boundaries to declare an end to the work day while making sure you have the environment to rest and recharge are critical. Home Office The staple of any office is a desk which you can find with a wide ranging budget. My personal desk is the Jarvis mechanical sit and stand desk from Fully. If your preference is a sitting, Artifox’s … [Read more...] about How The Most Successful People Work From Home
