Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas pleaded with migrants Tuesday to not trust smugglers who offer to bring them into the country, even as they cross illegally in droves. “Do not place your lives in the hands of individuals who only seek to exploit your lives for the sake of profit. We are building safe, orderly and humane pathways to access the benefits that the law provides and that Congress has passed,” Mayorkas said during a border trip to McAllen, Texas. “But, traveling from one country to another in the hands of smugglers only to be met by the enforcement authorities of the United States government is not the way to achieve relief. The laws of the border will be enforced.” (RELATED: Migrants Bused To DC Don’t Stay There. Multigenerational Survey Shows How Retirement Planning Is Changing
For many investors, retirement planning represents the bulk, or even the sum total, of their investment activity. As of 2020, there were roughly 60 million active 401(k) participants, in addition to former employees and retirees. But while millions of adults in the United States contribute toward retirement, views on retirement investing and all that goes along with it are anything but uniform. Investopedia conducted a online survey of 4,000 U.S. adults to quantify Americans’ understanding of financial literacy on a generational level, from baby boomers down to Generation Z. Below, we explore some of the top findings of this survey as it pertains to retirement investing and planning. Greedy Pharma CEO Cancels 5,000% Price Hike — But He Didn’t Fix The Real Problem
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin America is outraged — outraged! — that Turing Pharmaceuticals hiked the cost of a drug called Daraprim by 5,000% last month. (The drug is used to fight infections in patients suffering from AIDS and other conditions.) What took everyone so long? Turing CEO Martin Shkreli is a repeat moral offender. He pulled off similar price hikes at his previous company, before getting fired and sued for $65 million. Martin Shkreli, the CEO of Turing, says the company will cancel its planned 5,000% price hike to a ... [+] drug used to treat infections in AIDS patients. (Paul Taggart/Bloomberg.) But there's a much bigger problem than Shkreli here: The skyrocketing cost of generic drugs. It's nothing new. And it hadn't gotten much attention until this week, partly because most pharma companies aren't run by evil executives who happily explain they're making a profit by over-charging AIDS patients. Here's an … [Read more...] about Greedy Pharma CEO Cancels 5,000% Price Hike — But He Didn’t Fix The Real Problem
Michigan Can’t Enforce Pre-Roe Abortion Ban If Roe V. Wade Is Overturned, Judge Rules
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Michigan’s 1931 abortion ban cannot start being enforced again if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade in the coming weeks, a state judge ruled Tuesday, blocking one of nine state abortion bans from before Roe was decided that could soon take effect if the court overturns the landmark ruling as expected. Key Facts The Michigan Court of Claims issued a preliminary injunction that bars the state government from enforcing the ban as the litigation plays out, after Planned Parenthood sued the state in an effort to block the decades-old legislation. The law bans all abortions except to save the life of the mother, and classifies any abortions that are performed in violation of the ban as manslaughter. Judge Elizabeth L. Gleicher ruled there’s a “strong likelihood” Planned Parenthood would win the case as it moves forward, and the preliminary injunction should be granted to avoid the “irreparable … [Read more...] about Michigan Can’t Enforce Pre-Roe Abortion Ban If Roe V. By The Associated Press WASHINGTON — A senior defense official says U.S. Pentagon officials are having discussions with Sweden and Finland on their security needs to deter Russia as both move toward NATO membership. The official said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met with Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist on Wednesday and spoke about the interim period between when the NATO application is formally made and when it is approved. There have been concerns about threats from Russia during that period, in which Sweden and Finland would not formally be covered by NATO’s Article 5 which says that an attack against one member is an attack against all and calls for collective defense.
