Colorado ski slopes show promise heading into new year
The ski slopes are looking to be a fine place to start the new year.Vail Mountain on Friday boasted the most open terrain in Colorado, with all of its 5,289 acres available. The resort tallied 13 inches of snow in the past week to add to its 134 inches-and-counting leading up to a weekend with more powder in the forecast.The second-earliest opening for Blue Sky Basin has highlighted what resort CEO Doug Lovell called “a legendary start to the season.” In a news release, he called it “the strongest start to the season in decades.”Ski areas all around the state are celebrating Mother Nature, who largely left powder hounds’ prayers unanswered last winter. Ski slope opening in Belfast city centre to help regeneration after Primark fire
Rebecca Black, Press Association 19 October, 2018 14:23 A ski slope, ferris wheel and a mini festival have been announced in a programme of events aimed at helping Belfast recover following a major fire. Belfast City Council has announced details of a £1.69 million package aimed at attracting people into the city centre. It is also seeking an urgent meeting with the Northern Ireland Secretary Karen Bradley and the head of the civil service David Sterling to discuss financial support for the package as well as the long term recovery of the city centre. Earlier this week it emerged that a fire which devastated the front section of the Bank Buildings in Belfast has caused a 30 per cent drop in footfall. The historic building, which housed Primark, was left a charred shell after the blaze which started on August 28 and took several days to extinguish. New Dallas-to-Taos flights will make hitting the ski slopes easier this winter
Texas is the largest source of out-of-state visitors for New Mexico’s $6.6 billion tourism industry. An estimated 1.7 million Texans stayed overnight in the state in 2016, according to the most recent figures from the New Mexico Tourism Department. The same study found that only 1 in 5 visitors traveled to or within the state by airplane. For Taos, the nearest major airport is in Albuquerque, nearly three hours away by car.The new flights to Taos Regional Airport will operate three days a week — Thursday, Saturday and Sunday — from Dec. 20 through the end of March. Tickets are available to the public, with fares starting at $199 one-way.The flights will operate under the new Taos Air brand on a 30-seat Dornier 328 jet, with experienced operator Ultimate Jet Charters providing the crews and aircraft management.
