The Technical Magic Of The XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K Projector

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Recently, I was able to get my hands on the XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K Projector from XGIMI—a company that has made itself a staple in the AV industry over the past few years. Across years of evaluating models from BenQ, Sony, Panasonic and others, I never considered using a projector as my primary device for visual entertainment. But XGIMI's flagship in-home Horizon Pro 4K device may have changed my mind about that, thanks to its resolution, sound quality, thoughtful features and user-friendly design. Let's start by looking into the specs for this device—which is more like a minimalist entertainment system than a mere projector. The Startup High There! Aims To Be A Tinder For Tokers

September 16, 2015 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Startup : High There! Launched : February 2015 Location : Denver Employees : 10 Founders : Todd Mitchem, Kenny Frisman and Darren Roberts The pitch : Todd Mitchem was a recently divorced father trying to date again when he realized there was something about him that women seemed to find off-putting—his use of marijuana. Mitchem uses pot recreationally, which is legal in Colorado, where he lives. He thought that in Denver it wouldn’t be hard to meet women who also used it recreationally too, or at the very least, didn’t care that he did.  But the women he met were uncomfortable with it. And it wasn’t just dating that was problematic. Mitchem’s mother is a cancer survivor who used cannabis to help her when she was in treatment. During that time, however, a longtime neighbor and friend stopped speaking to her because of it. “She felt really isolated then,” recalls Mitchem. “And my cofounders and I heard … [Read more...] about The Startup High There! Nothing Announces Its Second-Generation Ear (2) ANC True Wireless Earbuds

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I have a radar for hype; when the Nothing range of products was launched with very clever marketing, my hype radar flashed red. However, it turned out that you can have hype surrounding a product without it being all style and no substance. Since Carl Pei and his colleagues launched the Nothing brand, the products have won awards and been well-received because they are well-made and cleverly designed. In the two years since Nothing launched, the brand has announced its Phone (1), which was listed as one of Time Magazine’s best inventions of 2022. Nothing’s two pairs of earbuds – Ear (1) and Ear (stick) – have sold over 1,000,000 units worldwide. No small feat for a company new to the sector. In December 2022, Nothing even opened its first retail space. The Nothing Store Soho is in London’s cultural hub and the entire brand has captured the imagination of younger consumers who are used to high-0quality products from Apple. … [Read more...] about Nothing Announces Its Second-Generation Ear (2) ANC True Wireless Earbuds

Social Media Companies Look to Customers to Diversify Revenue

March 14, 2023 by www.investopedia.com

Mark Zuckerberg is going where Elon Musk stumbled. Months after Twitter said it would charge for a blue check verification, Meta is rolling out a similar system for Facebook and Instagram users. While Meta Verified stands to generate just $2 billion in its first year, a fraction of the company's 2022 revenue of $116 billion, it may represent a new source of cash as the advertising market craters. companies have made large staffing cuts , finding new sources of revenue is clearly on the mind of executives across the industry. Big tech cut 160,000 workers last year and more may be on the way. Meta is also working on a standalone, text-based social network similar to Twitter, the BBC reported. "We're exploring a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text updates," a spokesperson told the BBC . It's too early to say whether Meta will succeed in its search for a new revenue source, almost all of which now comes from advertising. Its net income fell about 40% last … [Read more...] about Social Media Companies Look to Customers to Diversify Revenue

Apple iPhone 15 Leak Exposes Good And Bad News

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When Apple releases this year’s iPhones, the iPhone 15 series, among the design changes expected is a crucial one: the shift from charging from a Lightning connector to USB-C. This change is welcomed and will mean that iPhones, iPads and Mac laptops will all use the same cable. Not to mention the Apple TV remote, Android phones and non-Mac laptops, for instance. MORE FROM FORBES Nothing Ear (2): Founder Carl Pei Teases Secrets Of The Next Cool Earbuds By David Phelan But a new report from Ming-Chi Kuo, the highly reliable analyst from TFI Securities, says there’s good news, but also a frustrating limitation when it comes to how USB-C will work on the new phones. In a new research note at Medium , Kuo claims that the move to USB-C will mean the company can optimize for faster charging speeds. That’s the good news, and very welcome, of course. But the flip side is that these speeds will only be achieved … [Read more...] about Apple iPhone 15 Leak Exposes Good And Bad News

American News Outlets That Took Money From TikTok Downplay Fears Of Chinese Influence

March 22, 2023 by dailycaller.com

Major American media outlets that receive funding from TikTok have emphasized the app’s popularity and expressed skepticism about the app posing a potential national security risk in their coverage of efforts to ban TikTok, a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation found. TikTok bought ads in The New York Times and Washington Post, including a four-page NYT ad with a QR code linking readers to a website boasting of the company’s security investments, and sponsored a popular Axios newsletter, according to Ad Age. The purchases were part of a PR blitz from TikTok ahead of a Thursday congressional hearing as the U.S. considers banning the app. (RELATED: ‘This Is Xenophobic’: Rep. Grab PH seeks 20,000 additional driver slots

March 23, 2023 by business.inquirer.net

MANILA  -Grab Philippines, which is keen on expanding presence in the provinces, is seeking additional 20,000 slots for transport network vehicle service (TNVS) as the initial allotment by the government has already been filled. Grace Cruz, country head of the super app operator, told reporters in Manila on Wednesday they have already maximized the initial 4,000 slots allocated by the Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board. “We’re waiting for the next batch of slots. We’re hoping for more,” Cruz said on the sidelines of an event. She said the ride-hailing service provider was still lacking in terms of number of driver-partners, which has yet to reach the pre-pandemic level. Prior to the pandemic, Grab had about 65,000 drivers on its platform. Cruz raised the need for more drivers plying the roads given the increasing demand for mobility with the further reopening of the economy. Apart from Metro Manila, Cruz said they were looking forward to enlist more drivers … [Read more...] about Grab PH seeks 20,000 additional driver slots

InnovationRx: Beethoven’s Genome; Plus, Billionaires Back New Kind Of Health Research

T he composer Ludwig van Beethoven first began to experience hearing loss in his mid-20s. He also suffered from chronic stomach pain and, towards the end of his life, displayed jaundice – the yellow skin associated with liver disease. His health problems have been the subject of much speculation and a team of international scientists have finally gotten some answers: thanks to developments in whole genome sequencing and five strands of his hair. The research, published in Current Biology today, was unable to find a genetic explanation for the hearing loss but did find he had a Hepatitis B infection in the months leading up to his death, as well as genetic risk factors for liver disease that “likely contributed to his death.” It took more than a billion dollars and 20 years to sequence the first human genome. … [Read more...] about InnovationRx: Beethoven’s Genome; Plus, Billionaires Back New Kind Of Health Research
