Czechs seeing stable flow of Russian gas but wary of a drop or halt

June 25, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A PRAGUE (June 24): Gas shipments from Russia to the Czech Republic are stable but need monitoring, and it cannot be ruled out they could fall or completely stop in the coming period, the Czech industry minister said on Friday. The Czech Republic is nearly completely dependent on gas from Russia, and it is preparing emergency plans in case of a drop or halt to supplies as seen in some neighbouring countries such as Germany. On Thursday, Germany triggered the "alarm stage" of its emergency gas plan in response to falling Russian supplies. Russia has denied the supply cuts were deliberate, with state supplier Gazprom blaming a delay in the return of serviced equipment caused by Western sanctions. Czech Industry Minister Jozef Sikela, speaking after industry ministry officials held a crisis committee meeting with gas sector officials, said gas storage was currently about two thirds full. He urged companies to continue to intensify efforts on filling stores … [Read more...] about Czechs seeing stable flow of Russian gas but wary of a drop or halt

German Minister Warns Of ‘Catastrophic’ Industrial Shutdowns And Mass Unemployment If Gas Crisis Continues

June 24, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Germany’s economy minister Robert Habeck said the country’s federal government is attempting to stabilize energy supplies but warned of potential industry shutdowns and job losses if gas reserves run low in the winter, a day after he said Russia’s throttling of natural gas supply to Germany could ripple into a Lehman Brothers-style collapse of the energy sector. Key Facts In an interview with German magazine Der Spiegel , Habeck said Germany has never been in a situation like the current “gas crisis” adding that the government was trying to procure replacements and expand its natural gas infrastructure to counteract the drop in supply from Russia. Habeck once again urged the German people to cut back on gas consumption wherever possible. The minister said if the government's efforts to resolve the crisis fail and there is not enough gas some industries that consume the fuel will have to be shut … [Read more...] about German Minister Warns Of ‘Catastrophic’ Industrial Shutdowns And Mass Unemployment If Gas Crisis Continues

Today, we consider “influence” less astrologically and more practically, focusing on the chief marketers who wield it to shape the character and destinies of the brands and businesses they help steward. The link between marketing and influence has always been inextricable. After all, a chief marketer’s job is about nothing more than it is the influencing of attitudes and behaviors in … [Read more...] about The Forbes World’s Most Influential CMOs List: 2022

Policy Talk | Startups need to define their vision as an industry

June 10, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Yatish Rajawat – What was your objective in writing the book and what do you think is its impact? Harish Mehta - I’ll go back to say, 3 years, when I was reading books of RBI governors, IAS officers, politicians, etc. I have been involved with NASSCOM from the beginning and have seen how NASSCOM and the IT industry have evolved and how India has changed, I’m very proud of what everyone has done in this process. However, I didn’t see any of those books giving any credit to our industry - NASSCOM is not even listed anywhere, leave alone its contribution. There is an African proverb you may remember or know, “If lions had historians the tales of hunting would be different.” So that drove me to write the book about the story of how the IT industry changed. Like Dr. Sumant Rao Bhosre used to say, 1000 years of the downward spiral of India was arrested by the IT industry of India. NASSCOM was the sutradhar driving it. So that is what I used as a theme in my book. We have put our … [Read more...] about Policy Talk | Startups need to define their vision as an industry

EU leaders tackle inflation, energy shocks from Russia’s war

June 24, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

(Representative image: Reuters) A day after endorsing Ukraine's candidacy to join the European Union, the bloc's leaders turned their attention to the severe economic turbulence looming over the coming months as the full impact of Russia's war sinks in and the threat of recession rises. The EU's 27 leaders gathered in Brussels to grapple with surging inflation, energy shocks, dwindling business and consumer confidence, and growing budget pressures. The leaders also will have to contend with higher borrowing costs as the European Central Bank prepares to raise interest rates for the first time in 11 years to counter runaway price increases. ECB President, Christine Lagarde, who plans to raise rates next month and again in September, joined the EU summit to discuss the darkening economic outlook. Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said, "We are in a difficult situation, its very important that we have this discussion." The EU has spent the previous decade battling … [Read more...] about EU leaders tackle inflation, energy shocks from Russia’s war

Biden limps to G7 as allies fret over his troubles at home

June 24, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A (June 24): US President Joe Biden’s political fortunes have changed dramatically since his first Group of Seven (G7) summit last summer, or even his last visit to Europe in March. It couldn’t come at a worse time for his international allies as Russia settles into a long war with Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who will welcome G7 leaders in the Bavarian Alps, views Biden as a driving force in sustaining pressure on Moscow and believes that unity among allies could fray once again if Republicans win back the White House in 2024, according to a German government official who requested anonymity to discuss internal thinking. It was only a year ago, on a sandy English beach in Cornwall, when European leaders celebrated that Donald Trump was gone and that the US had returned to the multilateral orbit. Now, that relief has been replaced with a sense of foreboding about whether Biden’s Democrats survive midterm elections and the president’s political … [Read more...] about Biden limps to G7 as allies fret over his troubles at home

"Only on the basis of honest and mutually beneficial cooperation can we look for ways out of this crisis situation, which developed in the global economy because of the ill-conceived, selfish actions of certain states," Putin said in televised remarks at the BRICS leaders virtual summit, referring to Western sanctions on Russia. He said these countries "using financial mechanisms, in fact, shift their own mistakes in macroeconomic policy onto the whole world". "We are convinced that now, more than ever, the leadership of BRICS countries is … [Read more...] about Putin calls on BRICS to cooperate, defy West’s ‘selfish actions’
