The 2020 election In the weeks before the November 3 election, the big social media sites took steps to mitigate election-related extremism and disinformation. Twitter rolled out labels for all mail-in ballot misinformation and put a prompt on tweeted articles to encourage people to read them before retweeting. Facebook blocked QAnon groups and, later, restricted QAnon-adjacent accounts pushing “SaveTheChildren” conspiracy theories. Facebook also began prohibiting Holocaust denial posts. YouTube labeled and blocked advertising for election-related fake information, though it left in place many videos promoting conspiracy theories. … [Read more...] about The rise, fall, and future of Parler, the right-wing site that Amazon shut down

Lessons On Amplifying Life From Bob Goff’s “Love Does”
Bob lives life, rather than talking about it or worrying about it. In every chapter of his book he shares the spontaneous, contagious and authentic power of love in action and the lessons from his incredibly unique life experiences, like what he learned from spontaneously picking up the phone and inviting Attorney General Ashcroft to go to Uganda with him, or sitting outside of a dean’s office for weeks begging his way into law school. Creative Cultures: MailChimp Grants Employees “Permission To Be Creative”
Here, MailChimp takes a page from the playbook of some other tech world notables. Google’s Sergey Brin, for example, has been known to show up to job interviews wearing a cow costume. Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak, a legendary prankster, once called the Vatican posing as Henry Kissinger and tried to convince a friend that there was a state in Mexico called Jalapeno by creating doctored maps using digital tools unheard of at the time. Wozniak has been quoted as saying that the kind of humor involved in pranking goes to the creativity and inventiveness that’s indispensable for a company like Apple. And, incidentally, it was MailChimp’s head of user experience, Aarron Walter, who was behind the impromptu tagline. … [Read more...] about Creative Cultures: MailChimp Grants Employees “Permission To Be Creative”
