Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Roe v. Wade decision is top of mind for the public sector, many business leaders— even scientists. The Turnaway Study conducted at the University of California at San Francisco, found that receiving an abortion does not harm the health and well-being of women. In fact, it found that being denied an abortion results in worse financial, health and family outcomes. Another study by JAMA Psychiatry found that women seeking and being denied abortions reported significantly more mental health issues eight days later. They suffered more anxiety, poor self-esteem and low life satisfaction—but similar levels of depression—as women receiving abortions. Rumblings In The Workplace In response to the Roe v. Wade ruling, several leading companies like Apple, Citigroup, Netflix and Salesforce are expanding healthcare benefits. “In the workplace, the reversal of Roe is not only an issue impacting the health and well-being of … [Read more...] about Companies Not Changing Health Benefits Despite Roe V. ENERGY-STARVED EUROPE DIMS THE LIGHTS, CUTS THE A/C… JAZZ SHAW: Lights out, cold showers in Europe We still see news coverage coming out of Europe issuing “warnings” about a possible energy crisis, spurred in part by the removal of Russian oil and natural gas from the European market. […] The President of the European Commission warned people this week that the time to start conserving and building stockpiles of oil and natural gas was yesterday. And it’s not just going to be Germany and Italy that are suffering. It will be the entire continent. […] Germany previously secured a third of its natural gas from Russia. That amount has been slashed in half and may fall to zero before winter arrives. The Germans are shutting off the heat to public swimming pools and showers. Public spaces with outdoor lighting are having a percentage of the bulbs removed. Thermostats in government buildings and public schools are being lowered. In the Netherlands, a new public program has been … [Read more...] about Editor Daily Rundown: Energy-Starved Europe Dims The Lights, Cuts The A/C
‘Rage giving’: How current events are driving a new kind of philanthropy
When anger over everything from the killing of unarmed people of color to new restrictions on access to abortion bubbles over, many Americans act on it. advertisement advertisement One avenue for someone who has gotten fed up with current events is to take part in protests, such as marching for gun reform in response to mass shootings. Another is by what nonprofit and philanthropy scholars like to call “rage giving”–charitable donations motivated by strong emotions and dissatisfaction with the political climate. In our new book about this phenomenon , we explain that people often donate to nonprofits following breaking news about events they consider to be tragic or unjust. By donating, people may feel they are addressing the wrong they want to see righted, or they can express a strong politically driven view or value. Divisive moments When news coverage grows and collective anger culminates in high-profile marches, rage givers can … [Read more...] about ‘Rage giving’: How current events are driving a new kind of philanthropy

THE MOB COMES FOR ALITO… ‘We Will Fight Back’ : Protesters Descend On Justice Alito’s House (VIDEOS) Pro-abortion protesters marched through Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s private neighborhood Monday, ending at the Alito’s home. “Shut Down DC” activists invited demonstrators to join them at a vigil at Alito’s home to protest the leaked version of his draft opinion that could pave the way to overturning the abortion case, Roe v. Wade. “The evening of Monday, May 9, we will hold a vigil for all these rights that Alito is threatening to take away,” Shut Down DC said in a statement. “Because it’s been impossible to reach him at the Supreme Court (especially now with the enormous fences), we will do it at his home.” The protesters chanted behind a “reproductive rights for all” banner, “If abortion rights come under attack, we will fight back,” according to footage captured by Samantha Renck from the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Your neighbor’s a real asshole,” … [Read more...] about Editor Daily Rundown: The Mob Comes For Alito

Editors Daily Rundown: Another Inflation Explosion
ANOTHER INFLATION EXPLOSION… CNBC: Inflation rose 9.1% in June, even more than expected, as price pressures intensify Shoppers paid sharply higher prices for a variety of goods in June as inflation kept its hold on a slowing U.S. economy, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday. The consumer price index, a broad measure of everyday goods and services, soared 9.1% from a year ago, above the 8.8% Dow Jones estimate. That marked another month of the fastest pace for inflation going back to December 1981. Excluding volatile food and energy prices, so-called core CPI increased 5.9%, compared to the 5.7% estimate. On a monthly basis, headline CPI rose 1.3% and core CPI was up 0.7%, compared to respective estimates of 1.1% and 0.5%. Taken together, the numbers seemed to counter the narrative that inflation may be peaking, as the gains were based across a variety of categories.
