The Rise Of Passwordless Authentication: How Your Organization Can Stay Ahead Of The Curve
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Apu Pavithran is the founder and CEO of Hexnode , an award-winning unified endpoint management platform. Since the dawn of the internet, passwords have been the most elementary of all authentication measures and have protected us and our data—to an extent. At the same time, experts in cybersecurity have foreshadowed the demise of passwords ever since passwords came to be. One of the most important recent developments, for example, came when the Fast Identity Online (FIDO) alliance collaborated on a new passkey standard with big techs like Apple, Google and Microsoft. These recent leanings toward passwordless technologies suggest that passwords may no longer be able to hang around and compete with its alternatives. Why Passwordless Authentication? In a password-based authentication process, a user is required to provide a unique combination of username and password which serves as proof of the user’s … [Read more...] about The Rise Of Passwordless Authentication: How Your Organization Can Stay Ahead Of The Curve

Protesters march during a demonstration called by unions of public and private sector against precariousness, the cost of living, low wages and pensions in Lisbon on March 18, 2023. (Photo by PATRICIA DE MELO MOREIRA / AFP) Lisbon, Portugal — Thousands of people marched in the Portuguese capital Lisbon on Saturday, calling for higher wages and other measures to help tackle the rising cost of living. The march, called by the CGTP, the country’s main trades union confederation, came a day after a national strike by civil servants in support of higher wages. That action hit rubbish collection, schools and hospitals. The CGTP wants the government to implement a package of anti-poverty measures including price controls on essential commodities and action to limit soaring rents and the cost of property loans. Over 2022, inflation reached 7.4 percent, the highest level in 30 years. CGTP General Secretary Isabel Camarinha told the crowd they wanted pay rises of at least 10 … [Read more...] about Thousands march in Portugal for wage rises

Can Utilities Rise To The Challenges Presented By Decarbonization?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The electricity network is among the greatest inventions ever, ushering in global economic and social progress. Yet, the system faces enormous tests and presents unique challenges to the nation’s 1,600 utilities, which center on decarbonization and electrification. How will power companies cope? The trend toward carbon neutrality could pay big dividends for utilities. The growth of electric vehicles (EVs) and the demand for renewables are driving change — all amplified by adding energy efficiency and battery storage technologies. While it will generate more revenues, it will also require a capital investment in transmission and distribution. The good news is 70% of the largest U.S. electric and gas utilities have net-zero goals, says S&P Global Market Intelligence . “The trend toward more sustainability is going to continue,” says Todd Ramey, senior vice president of markets for the Midwest Independent System … [Read more...] about Can Utilities Rise To The Challenges Presented By Decarbonization?

Before we announce it we will formalize with our partners in the United States,” Marcos said in an ambush interview. “There are four extra sites, scattered around the Philippines. What’s happening with GameStop? The retailer’s stock price is on the rise after surprise profit
It’s game on for GameStop shares this morning. As of the time of this writing, GME stock is up over 51% in premarket trading, taking the share price to $26.70—its highest point since November 2022. The reason? On Tuesday, GameStop posted a quarterly profit for the first time in two years. And it was for the all-important holiday quarter in which investors had hoped that parents would rush out to GameStop locations to get presents for under the tree. But it doesn’t seem that scenario played out as much as hoped, given net sales were actually down year-over-year in Q4 2022 to $2.226 billion (from $2.254 billion a year before). However, net income was actually up year-over-year. During the quarter, GameStop’s income reached $48.2 million. The rising profits were helped in part by lowering expenses. And sure, $48.2 million is a pittance for many larger companies, but a year earlier, GameStop had seen a Q4 net loss of $147.5 million. In other words, the company turned … [Read more...] about What’s happening with GameStop? The retailer’s stock price is on the rise after surprise profit
Oil rises 2% in retreat from 15-month low as banking fears subside
HOUSTON – Oil prices rose more than 2 percent on Tuesday, extending a retreat from a 15-month low hit the previous day, as the rescue of Credit Suisse allayed concerns of a banking crisis that would hurt economic growth and cut fuel demand. Measures to stabilize the banking sector, including a UBS takeover of Credit Suisse and pledges from major central banks to boost liquidity, have calmed fears about the financial system that roiled markets last week. “Fears of a banking crisis and a recession have eased, brightening the oil demand outlook at least for now,” said Fiona Cincotta, Senior Financial Markets Analyst at City Index. Brent crude settled up $1.53, or 2.1 percent, at $75.32 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) closed up $1.69, or 2.5 percent to $69.33. On Monday, both benchmarks ended about 1 percent higher after falling to their lowest since December 2021, with WTI sinking below $65 at one point. Last week, they shed more than 10 percent as the banking … [Read more...] about Oil rises 2% in retreat from 15-month low as banking fears subside
‘Bullets And Drugs And Cars’: Child Mortality Is Rising At The Highest Rate In Half A Century, Analysis Finds
Child mortality rates in the United States are at their highest in fifty years, according to a new analysis by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Between 2019 and 2021, the all-cause mortality rate for youth in the United States ages 1 to 19 increased by almost 20%, according to the analysis. Though the reported increase in deaths were noted during the same period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the deaths themselves were mostly caused by injury, namely homicides and suicides, rather than a global contagion. Although the analysis shows that suicides and homicides began to rise among youth aged 10 to 19 in 2007 and 2013 respectively, researchers believe that the pandemic “may have poured fuel on the fire,” with homicides increasing by 39.1% in this period and drug overdoses increasing by 113.5%. The death rate for children and adolescents rose by nearly 20 percent between 2019 and 2021. https://t.co/8vgPWEBLXD — The Hill (@thehill) March 22, 2023 … [Read more...] about ‘Bullets And Drugs And Cars’: Child Mortality Is Rising At The Highest Rate In Half A Century, Analysis Finds
