Revenue Operations Is The Fastest Growing Job In America. So What Is Revenue Operations?

March 20, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Revenue Operations has emerged as the fastest growing job in the US right now according to jobs analysis by Linked In. But a quick Google search will tell you nobody really agrees on what Revenue Operations is. Few can define it. Our analysis of hundreds of RevOps job descriptions, and discussions with over seventy executives who carry the Revenue Operations moniker in their title – it’s pretty clear that no one job description is the same. Rather, Revenue Operations describes a conflation of a dozen or more historically fragmented functions and roles – Sales Operations, Sales Enablement, Marketing Operations, Customer Analytics, as well as Training and Development. That may sound random. But that’s the fundamental point of Revenue Operations. At the highest level, the primary goal of a Revenue Operations leader is to unify and align the operations, systems, and data that support revenue teams along the entire … [Read more...] about Revenue Operations Is The Fastest Growing Job In America. The 2023 Playbook: Revenue, Risk Mitigation And ROI

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Matthew Gantner, Founder & CEO— Altum Strategy Group . We’re living in a time of heightened economic uncertainty. While recent economic data shows areas of promise , businesses are bracing to manage uncertainty throughout 2023. Consequently, I see cost reduction measures—such as layoffs in the tech space—and the reconsideration of investments to ensure businesses achieve growth and efficiency in the years ahead. This shift is notable in comparison to the business environment of the past decade. Previously, many companies focused on growth at all costs, and now they are challenged by investors and stakeholders to generate meaningful returns and drive profitable growth. I see an emphasis on business fundamentals of revenue generation, risk mitigation and return on investment—all of which are core to the financial health of an organization. (Full disclosure: My firm offers services in these areas.) … [Read more...] about The 2023 Playbook: Revenue, Risk Mitigation And ROI

Social Media Companies Look to Customers to Diversify Revenue

March 14, 2023 by www.investopedia.com

Mark Zuckerberg is going where Elon Musk stumbled. Months after Twitter said it would charge for a blue check verification, Meta is rolling out a similar system for Facebook and Instagram users. While Meta Verified stands to generate just $2 billion in its first year, a fraction of the company's 2022 revenue of $116 billion, it may represent a new source of cash as the advertising market craters. companies have made large staffing cuts , finding new sources of revenue is clearly on the mind of executives across the industry. Big tech cut 160,000 workers last year and more may be on the way. Meta is also working on a standalone, text-based social network similar to Twitter, the BBC reported. "We're exploring a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text updates," a spokesperson told the BBC . It's too early to say whether Meta will succeed in its search for a new revenue source, almost all of which now comes from advertising. Its net income fell about 40% last … [Read more...] about Social Media Companies Look to Customers to Diversify Revenue

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Tencent Holdings is back growing again, after two quarters of falling revenue, but cofounder and billionaire Pony Ma still wants the company to pursue cost-cutting measures and improve efficiencies. The 51-year-old Ma, who is currently the country’s third richest man, saw his wealth shoot up by $3.7 billion to $39.3 billion on Thursday, after the WeChat operator on Wednesday reported a slim 0.5% revenue gain to $20.8 billion for the last three months of 2022. Shares of the Hong Kong-listed firm surged 8.2% as investors are hopeful about the outlook for advertising and international games expansion as future growth drivers. Bu Ma appears to be only cautiously optimistic about growth. In the mogul’s once-in-a-year address with media discussing Tencent’s performance, he said the tech behemoth would keep following the direction of improving efficiency and cutting costs. “The goal is to get rid of the fat, and build up the … [Read more...] about After Eking Out Small Revenue Growth, Billionaire Pony Ma Says Tencent Will Keep Cost-Cutting Measures

Snowflake Accelerates In Revenue While Growth Stocks Sell Off

January 13, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Snowflake was listed on September 2020 and the shares more than doubled on the day of the listing. It was one of the biggest tech IPOs of all time raising roughly $3 billion with a road show that attracted risk-adverse Warren Buffet. In my deep dive published on Forbes , I noted Snowflake’s sky-high revenue growth of 173% in the year prior to the IPO. Another key metric that led to the success was the net retention rate of 158%, which was the highest for any cloud company at the time of listing; this metric is even higher now. Snowflake closed the opening day with a market cap of $70.3 billion that was more than five times its last private valuation of about $12.5 billion. Snowflake has been public for over a year and now trades at a market cap of $92.5 billion for a gain of roughly 33%, at time of writing. Below, we revisit the product and the company’s financials now that it’s been a public company for a decent … [Read more...] about Snowflake Accelerates In Revenue While Growth Stocks Sell Off

March 16, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin We believe that Caterpillar stock (NYSE: CAT) is a better pick than the pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly stock (NYSE: LLY), given its better prospects. Although these companies are from different sectors, we compare them because they have similar operating incomes of $8-$9 billion. The decision to invest often comes down to finding the best stocks within the parameters of certain characteristics that suit an investment style. The size of profits can matter, as larger profits can imply greater market power. Since these stocks are from different sectors, comparing P/S against one another may not be helpful. We compare their current multiples with the historical ones in the sections below. Looking at stock returns, LLY stock has fared better, with a 19% rise in the last twelve months, compared to a 4% rise for CAT and an 8% decline for the broader S&P500 index. Goldman Sachs Stock Is Trading Below Its Intrinsic Value

March 16, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Goldman Sachs’ stock (NYSE: GS) has lost approximately 6% YTD as compared to the 2% rise in the S&P500 index over the same period. Further, at its current price of $322 per share, it is trading 19% below its fair value of $396 – Trefis’ estimate for Goldman Sachs’ valuation . The investment bank posted lower-than-expected results in the fourth quarter of 2022, missing both revenues and earnings consensus estimates. The total revenues decreased 16% y-o-y to $10.59 billion, mainly driven by a 48% drop in investment banking and a 27% decline in asset & wealth management businesses. The investment banking was primarily down due to lower underwriting revenues – equity underwriting (-82%) and debt underwriting (-70%), driven by lower deal volumes. Similarly, asset & wealth management suffered due to a sharp decline in net income from equity investments and debt investments. That said, the platform solutions and FICC … [Read more...] about Goldman Sachs Stock Is Trading Below Its Intrinsic Value

March 17, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin We believe that Corning stock (NYSE: GLW) is currently a better pick over its sector peer Cisco stock (NASDAQ NDAQ : CSCO), given its better prospects and a relatively lower valuation of 2.1x trailing revenues vs. 3.9x for Cisco. Why Did Norfolk Southern Stock Fall 30% Since 2021?

March 17, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin After a 17% fall, year-to-date, Norfolk Southern stock (NYSE: NSC) has some room for growth, in our view. NSC stock has declined from $248 in early January to around $205 now. The YTD 17% fall for Norfolk Southern NSC marks an underperformance with the 2% returns for the broader S&P500 index. The recent fall for Norfolk Southern can be attributed to the derailment of a train carrying toxic materials in East Palestine, Ohio last month. Ohio state has sued Norfolk Southern over the incident. Looking at a slightly longer term, NSC stock is down 31% from levels seen in late 2021. This can be attributed to 1. the company’s P/S ratio, which plunged 42% to 3.7x trailing revenues, from 6.4x in 2021, partly offset by 2. a 14% rise in Norfolk Southern’s revenue to $13 billion, and 3. its average shares outstanding falling 4% to 231 million, driven by share repurchases of $3 billion.
