Maybulk attempting to rebound from recent bottom, says RHB Retail Research

May 19, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A KUALA LUMPUR (May 19): RHB Retail Research said Malaysian Bulk Carriers Bhd is attempting to rebound from the recent bottom as it bounced off the support towards hitting the 50 sen resistance level for five consecutive sessions. In a trading stocks note today, the research house said if the stock manages to reclaim above that threshold, a counter-trend rebound may occur to breach the 53.5 sen resistance, followed by April’s high of 56.5 sen. “However, the stock may continue its downtrend movement if it falls below the 48 sen support, as it forms a “lower low” bearish pattern,” it said … [Read more...] about Maybulk attempting to rebound from recent bottom, says RHB Retail Research

A lone bear, black magic and a $235 billion stock market crash

May 16, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

What does it take to trigger a crash in the stock market? A once-in-a-century pandemic? The biggest war in Europe in 70 years? The US Federal Reserve instantaneously cutting off the supply of the opium of record liquidity and low interest rates? Multi-year high inflation? How about black magic? The Oxford Dictionary defines black magic as a type of magic that is believed to use the power of the devil in order to do evil. In a world where boring financial data, profit and loss statements, and complex macroeconomic events sway the everyday movement of stock prices and stock indices, one Rajkot-based stockbroker claimed last week that he spent more than Rs 8 crore to engineer a multi-day crash in the stock market with the help of esoteric black magic. Close “We are responsible to a great extent for today’s fall and the fall of the past few days in the market. You won’t believe it, but we have spent over Rs 8.5 crore today in kala jadu (black magic) to create … [Read more...] about A lone bear, black magic and a $235 billion stock market crash

S&P 500 and Dow Jones suffer worst one-day loss since June 2020

May 19, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A (May 19): Wall Street ended sharply lower on Wednesday, with Target losing around a quarter of its stock market value and highlighting worries about the U.S. economy after the retailer became the latest victim of surging prices. It was the worst one-day loss for the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average since June 2020. Target Corp's first-quarter profit fell by half and the company warned of a bigger margin hit on rising fuel and freight costs. Its shares fell about 25%, losing about $25 billion in market capitalization, in their worst session since the Black Monday crash on Oct. 19, 1987. The retailer's results come a day after rival Walmart Inc trimmed its profit forecast. The SPDR S&P Retail ETF dropped 8.3%. "We think the developing impact on retail spending as inflation outpaces wages for even longer than people might have expected is a principal factor in causing the market sell-off today," said Paul Christopher, head of global market … [Read more...] about S&P 500 and Dow Jones suffer worst one-day loss since June 2020

Run-Scoring Is Down In MLB; Is The Baseball At Fault?

May 18, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin One of the big stories thus far in the 2022 baseball season is the drop in run-scoring. Through games of May 16, both runs (4.16) and homers (0.96) per team, per game are at the lowest level recorded since 2014. On the pitching side, the league ERA (3.83) is also the lowest since that same 2014 season. On one hand, you can say - hold your horses, the weather has just begun to warm up, and offense is certain to ramp up as this trend continues. Plus, humidors are now being used in all 30 MLB ball parks to dry out the baseballs and somewhat limit their flight. But before you show such restraint, you must take another damning factor into consideration - this is the first season in MLB history with the universal DH. For offensive numbers to take such a massive step backward in the first year that totally eliminated the unsightly spectre of pitchers coming to bat is a major development. Country Heights says not aware of reason for UMA

May 18, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A KUALA LUMPUR (May 18): Country Heights Holdings Bhd (CHHB) informed Bursa Malaysia on Wednesday (May 18) that it was not aware of any corporate development that would have caused the sharp fall in its share price. The group also stressed that it is in compliance with the Bursa Securities Listing Requirements on immediate disclosure obligations. CHHB had opened one sen higher at RM1.20 but thereafter inexplicably nosedived on heavy trading volume to 83.5 sen — dropping 35.5 sen or 30% — hitting limit down and triggering an unusual market activity (UMA) query by Bursa Malaysia. The company is valued at RM247.99 million based on the stock price of 83.5 sen. In late April this year, the group said it intended to invest about RM250 million in capital expenditure (capex) for the next five years following its partnership with Beijing Wodong Tianjun Information Technology Co Ltd (JD.com) to develop an omnichannel business model in Malaysia. Asia’s two richest men reap windfall from surging oil, coal

May 18, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A (May 18): Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani are profiting from a surge in global commodity prices triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, burnishing their fossil-fuel credentials even as Asia’s richest men publicly push their pivots toward greener energy. With coal prices skyrocketing to a record, Adani’s conglomerate is expanding a controversial mine in Australia to meet demand. Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd is snapping up distressed crude-oil cargoes at discounts to feed its refining complex, the biggest in the world. Reliance even deferred a scheduled maintenance of the facility to help churn out more diesel and gasoline, whose margins have shot up to touch a three-year high. The two Indian tycoons are stepping in at a time when many developed countries are scrambling for alternative sources of fuels as they try to back away from Russian supplies. This month, the Group of Seven most-industrialized nations pledged to ban imports of Russian oil. The … [Read more...] about Asia’s two richest men reap windfall from surging oil, coal
