Key Takeaways Analysts estimate adjusted EPS of $1.48 vs. $1.69 in Q1 FY 2022. U.S. comparable sales (excluding fuel sales) are expected to rise YOY, but at less than half the pace of the same quarter a year ago. Revenue is expected to barely increase for the second straight quarter as the boost from the pandemic continues to wear off. Walmart Inc. ( WMT ), one of the world's biggest retailers, enjoyed unusually strong earnings and revenue growth during the past two years. The key driver was consumers who changed their buying patterns in several ways during the pandemic. Walmart's e-commerce sales soared as people sheltering at home boosted their shopping online. And consumers also spent more on manufactured goods as they spent less on dining out and traveling. But these pandemic-related forces are beginning to lose momentum. As a result, Walmart's growth has begun to slow sharply. Investors will be watching whether Walmart can reverse its slowdown in growth when … [Read more...] about Walmart Q1 FY2023 Earnings Report Preview

Pentagon reports increase in UFO numbers over last 20 years
US officials say the number of unidentified flying objects reported in the last 20 years has increased, according to an AFP report. Scott Bray, a director of Naval intelligence, says there has been an increase in the numbers of unidentified objects in certain areas. “Since the early 2000s, we have seen an increasing number of unauthorised and/or unidentified aircraft or objects in military-controlled training areas and training ranges and other designated airspace.” Bray says the US military’s efforts to remove the stigma from reporting UFOs could well be behind the increase. It can also be attributed to advances in technology. However, Bray insists the Pentagon has not found anything to suggest that the objects are not from this planet. Hedging his bets however, he hasn’t ruled out that possibility. “We’ve made no assumptions about what this is or isn’t.” According to the AFP report, in June of last year, a report released by US intelligence officials claimed there was no … [Read more...] about Pentagon reports increase in UFO numbers over last 20 years
Thailand News Today | Crashed China eastern flight possible “intentional nosedive”
Black box data on crashed China Eastern 737 suggests possible “intentional nosedive” Investigators are now examining further if the crash of China Eastern Airlines 737-800 on March 21 was indeed due to “intentional action on the flight deck”. The early reports say that there is, so far, no evidence of a technical malfunction. The Wall Street Journal reported this week that flight data from one of the two “black boxes” on the Boeing jet indicated that “someone in the cockpit intentionally crashed the plane”. The comments were made by people the WSJ cited as “familiar with the preliminary assessment by US officials”. US National Transportation Safety Board officials have been working with engineers from Boeing and investigators from the Civil Aviation Administration of China since the crash. Boeing, the US manufacturer of the jet, has so far declined to comment on the early leaks and, instead, referred all questions to the Chinese regulators. At this stage, the CAAC, … [Read more...] about Thailand News Today | Crashed China eastern flight possible “intentional nosedive”
Allianz fund managers’ paydays could be followed by prison
- A + A (May 18): He was a hedge-fund manager supposedly under the watchful eye of a “master cop” — an Allianz SE unit that policed his every move. Instead, US authorities say, Greg Tournant sold lies to investors that cost customers, and now Allianz, billions of dollars, and resulted in a guilty plea to federal charges of securities fraud by Allianz Global Investors US. News on Tuesday that the US unit of the German insurance giant was admitting guilt over the collapse of its Structured Alpha group of hedge funds leaves many questions unanswered, including a big one: Will Tournant, who had told investors Structured Alpha would do well whether markets went up or down, end up in prison? For Allianz SE, Tuesday’s development brought an end to legal headaches that have engulfed the German insurer since the funds imploded in March 2020, when financial markets reeled during the early days of the pandemic. The demise of the Structured Alpha funds is just the latest … [Read more...] about Allianz fund managers’ paydays could be followed by prison
Trump—Without Evidence—Sows Pennsylvania Fraud Claims As Vote Count Drags On
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Votes are still being counted in Pennsylvania's hotly contested GOP Senate primary, but former President Donald Trump is already shaping a narrative that the sluggish pace is because of a behind-the-scenes conspiracy to rob his preferred candidate, Dr. Mehmet Oz, of a win, returning to a strategy of lies he used following the 2020 election after a shaky election night for his endorsement record. Key Facts Trump lamented the slow pace of vote counting in a series of statements Wednesday morning on his Truth Social platform, saying: "Dr. Oz should declare victory. It makes it much harder for them to cheat with the ballots that they 'just happened to find.'" Oz said Tuesday night it was clear neither campaign would be able to assert victory as votes were still being counted–he made no claims of voter fraud. As of 1:30 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, Oz led former hedge fund CEO David McCormick 31.3% to … [Read more...] about Trump—Without Evidence—Sows Pennsylvania Fraud Claims As Vote Count Drags On
