- A + A (May 19): The worsening gasoline crunch looks set to buoy Asian refiners — particularly those in India — as sky-high US prices encourage more exports. US pump prices have now risen above US$4 a gallon in all states for the first time ever as the summer driving season approaches. JPMorgan Chase & Co forecast this week that American gasoline could surge to as high as US$6.20 a gallon by August, which would be more than double the price a year ago. Motor fuel is taking over from diesel as the major focus of oil-product supply fears, with the tightening market stretching a global refining system that was hit by closures over the last couple of years due to Covid-19. In Asia, gasoline margins jumped to almost US$35 a barrel this week, and are now near those for diesel, which have eased from a peak in early May. “The tightness in the Atlantic Basin, especially in the US, should continue to see Asian gasoline barrels pulled West,” said Dylan Sim, an … [Read more...] about Sky-high US gasoline prices to lure more imports from Asia

Just 10 years ago, some APAC countries did not have any 3G or 4G infrastructure at all. “Now, the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) estimates that by 2025, APAC will have 1.2 billion 5G connections,” he said in his keynote address at the Huawei Asia Pacific Digital Innovation Conference 2022 here on Thursday (May 19). The Russian Army Has Set Its Sights On A Single Small City In Eastern Ukraine
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Eighty-five days into Russia’s wider war on Ukraine, the Kremlin’s aims have shrunk to miles and towns. If there’s an overarching strategic goal in Moscow right now, it’s to surround and destroy the handful of Ukrainian brigades around Severodonetsk, a city with a pre-war population of 100,000 in eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region. Compare that to Russia’s initial goals—to occupy Kyiv, decapitate the Ukrainian government, capture all of Donbas and Ukraine’s Black Sea coast and destroy the Ukrainian armed forces. Three months ago, Moscow planned to smash Ukraine into a leaderless, landlocked and unarmed rump state. Now, Russian leaders might settle for slightly expanding their control in Donbas and possibly eliminating a few Ukrainian brigades. Even that isn’t going well for the Russians. In the last week, Russian forces have captured a few hamlets around Severodonetsk. But the town of Lyman, which anchors … [Read more...] about The Russian Army Has Set Its Sights On A Single Small City In Eastern Ukraine

September IIP rises 3% as low base effect wears off
Representational Image. As the low base effect slowly wears off, industrial production in India continued to stabilise in September, expanding by 3 percent year-on-year (YoY). While it was lower than the 11.9 percent rise in August, this was due to the low base effect ending by August. Measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) data, which was released by the Centre on November 12, industrial output maintained growth in the latest month even though the headline figures fell. IIP has maintained significant growth from March 2021 onwards, aided by a continuing low base effect. Case in point, industrial production rose by 13.6 percent in June, 27.6 percent in May and recorded a massive 134 percent rise in April. Till July, experts had said the indices for the months in 2021 were not strictly comparable with the same months from 2020, when the nationwide lockdown was in full force and a majority of factories were not operating. However, this effect has now worn off … [Read more...] about September IIP rises 3% as low base effect wears off
