February 3, 2023 by www.moneycontrol.com

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 announced that individuals with an income of up to Rs 7 lakh will not have to pay any tax under the new tax regime. They will be eligible for a rebate under section 87A that is currently available to individuals with income of up to Rs 5 lakh, she said during her Budget 2023 speech. No rebate for taxpayers opting for the older tax regime If you, like most other tax-payers, have been opting for the older, with-exemptions tax regime that offers tax breaks under section 80C among other things, you will not be eligible for this rebate. You will get a rebate under the old regime only if your income is less than Rs  5 lakh. The older regime continues to be in force, but will no longer be the default tax structure. Read More What is a rebate? In a bid to attract more taxpayers to the new structure, Sitharaman sweetened the deal by allowing rebate on incomes of up to Rs 7 lakh, up from Rs 5 lakh earlier. The Phillips Curve Silliness

February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In 1958, economist William Phillips wrote a paper which found a relationship between unemployment and wages. Less unemployment led to higher wages; more unemployment led to lower wages (or slower wage growth). People have been arguing over this ever since. The basic problem here has been distinguishing between “monetary” and “non-monetary” causes of “inflation” — a topic we wrote about extensively in our new book Inflation (2022), because we knew this was going to be an issue. You may have noticed the excessive use of quotes above. Unfortunately, even these words are rather vague, and I use them mostly because other people use them. “Inflation” to some people means a specifically monetary process (what we called “monetary inflation.”) For others, it means the change in some common price indicator like the Consumer Price Index, which can certainly be affected by “non-monetary” factors. Sometimes the same people go … [Read more...] about The Phillips Curve Silliness

February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Former FC Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has hailed Xavi Hernandez's 'amazing' team, but also took a dig at his successor and accused Lionel Messi of not passing to certain teammates in comments made during an interview published this week . A legendary midfielder himself like Xavi, Koeman will always be asked to pass comment on the club due to being a key member of Johan Cruyff's 'Dream Team' in the early 90s and the scorer of the free kick at Wembley that won it their first Champions League crown against Sampdoria in 1992. Given Koeman was fired and replaced by Xavi as head coach in late 2021 as well, his thoughts on Barca's current form are always of interest to the footballing world. Interviewed by ex-Netherlands star Andy van der Meijde, the current manager of the Dutch national team said his former side are "doing very well" as the leaders of La Liga while also having reached the semi-finals of the Copa del … [Read more...] about Koeman Hails ‘Amazing’ FC Barcelona But Takes Dig At Successor Xavi And Accuses Messi Of Not Passing

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Michael Huppe is President & CEO of SoundExchange, an adjunct music law professor, published author, frequent contributor and lecturer. Over the last decade, we’ve seen the size of the music revenue pie grow significantly as the popularity of streaming services has skyrocketed. Today, streaming accounts for 84% of U.S. recorded music revenue . Over 90 million people in the U.S. subscribe to one or more music streaming services for the price of a few cups of coffee a month. Yala beat Phuket FC, 1-0

May 11, 2009 by thethaiger.com

PHUKET CITY: Surakul Stadium remains less than a fortress for Phuket FC as the “Sea Dragons” were once again beaten on home soil, this time suffering a 1-0 defeat to last-place Yala. With the win, Yala picked up their first-ever points in the league after four consecutive losses. After five matches in the fledgling Division 2 of the Footbool Association of Thailand, high-flying Satun top the table with 13 points, followed by Nakhon Sri Thammarat (12) and Narathiwat (11). In a match that could have gone either way, a lapse in defense led to a goal by Yala about half way through the second half. It was only the second goal of the season for Yala, who had already given up nine, and their players were understandably happy with the result.
