Budget 2023: Is the Rs 7-lakh tax-free income limit only for the new tax regime?
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 announced that individuals with an income of up to Rs 7 lakh will not have to pay any tax under the new tax regime. They will be eligible for a rebate under section 87A that is currently available to individuals with income of up to Rs 5 lakh, she said during her Budget 2023 speech. No rebate for taxpayers opting for the older tax regime If you, like most other tax-payers, have been opting for the older, with-exemptions tax regime that offers tax breaks under section 80C among other things, you will not be eligible for this rebate. You will get a rebate under the old regime only if your income is less than Rs 5 lakh. The older regime continues to be in force, but will no longer be the default tax structure. Read More What is a rebate? In a bid to attract more taxpayers to the new structure, Sitharaman sweetened the deal by allowing rebate on incomes of up to Rs 7 lakh, up from Rs 5 lakh earlier. For Country Artist Tolman – Gratitude Is Everything
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Jenny Tolman spent the past year making many of her biggest dreams come true. She released a new album, got married, organized the first all-female country festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, saw her music video celebrating women who’ve survived drug addiction and human trafficking go viral, and welcomed her first child, a beautiful baby boy named Bear. It seemed fitting the little guy would wrap up 2022 so perfectly, arriving on the very last day of the year, December 31 st . Tolman let fans know he was on his way with her song “It’s a Boy,” late last year, and People Magazine helped introduce him to the world in January. At 26, Tolman feels incredibly blessed. “I feel very, very grateful. The only two things I’ve ever wanted in my life is to be a singer and to be a mom,” she says. “And I’m like, oh my gosh, it makes me want to cry.” She’s a strong believer in expressing gratitude - consistently and … [Read more...] about For Country Artist Tolman – Gratitude Is Everything
The Phillips Curve Silliness
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In 1958, economist William Phillips wrote a paper which found a relationship between unemployment and wages. Less unemployment led to higher wages; more unemployment led to lower wages (or slower wage growth). People have been arguing over this ever since. The basic problem here has been distinguishing between “monetary” and “non-monetary” causes of “inflation” — a topic we wrote about extensively in our new book Inflation (2022), because we knew this was going to be an issue. You may have noticed the excessive use of quotes above. Unfortunately, even these words are rather vague, and I use them mostly because other people use them. “Inflation” to some people means a specifically monetary process (what we called “monetary inflation.”) For others, it means the change in some common price indicator like the Consumer Price Index, which can certainly be affected by “non-monetary” factors. Sometimes the same people go … [Read more...] about The Phillips Curve Silliness
Koeman Hails ‘Amazing’ FC Barcelona But Takes Dig At Successor Xavi And Accuses Messi Of Not Passing

A legendary midfielder himself like Xavi, Koeman will always be asked to pass comment on the club due to being a key member of Johan Cruyff's 'Dream Team' in the early 90s and the scorer of the free kick at Wembley that won it their first Champions League crown against Sampdoria in 1992. Given Koeman was fired and replaced by Xavi as head coach in late 2021 as well, his thoughts on Barca's current form are always of interest to the footballing world. Interviewed by ex-Netherlands star Andy van der Meijde, the current manager of the Dutch national team said his former side are "doing very well" as the leaders of La Liga while also having reached the semi-finals of the Copa del … [Read more...] about Koeman Hails ‘Amazing’ FC Barcelona But Takes Dig At Successor Xavi And Accuses Messi Of Not Passing
Australia Face Test Cricket’s Toughest Challenge Amid Indian Gamesmanship
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The images of the eyebrow raising pitch preparation for the series-opener between India and Australia were probably enough to spook the visitors. In what could be termed as gamesmanship from the hosts, or “pitch doctoring” to others, ground staff at Nagpur's VCA Stadium were tailoring the surface in an apparent bid to help India gain an advantage ahead of the first Test starting on Thursday. Already facing the toughest challenge in cricket, with India having not lost a home Test series in a decade, Australia's task appears even more daunting on a surface expected to spin heavily. But this Australian team, increasingly moulded in composed skipper Pat Cummins' image, might not be rattled so easily unlike previous agitated sides. "There potentially may be a fair bit of rough out there. That's just something we've got to embrace," Cummins told reporters on Wednesday. "It's going to be fun, it's going to be … [Read more...] about Australia Face Test Cricket’s Toughest Challenge Amid Indian Gamesmanship
Milwaukee Bucks Final Trade Deadline Big Board
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The 2023 NBA Trade deadline is nearly upon us, and the Milwaukee Bucks will have some big decisions to make. They’ve won eight straight games heading into the deadline and are clicking on all cylinders with Khris Middleton back in the lineup. However, they are not yet at full strength as Bobby Portis has missed the last seven games with an MCL sprain in his right knee. They’ve gone the entire season without having their entire team, making it difficult for general manager Jon Horst to evaluate his club. Even without all of their guys, it’s clear the Bucks are peers with the Boston Celtics (and maybe the Philadelphia 76ers?) as the class of the Eastern Conference. Still, there’s always room to upgrade. Here are the top 16 trade candidates the Bucks could potentially be interested in. Milwaukee Bucks Final Trade Deadline Big Board Kelly Oubre Jr., Wing, Hornets Jae Crowder, Forward, Suns Immanuel … [Read more...] about Milwaukee Bucks Final Trade Deadline Big Board
Will TikTok Be Banned From The U.S.? Here’s Where It Stands.
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Pressure is mounting from Republicans and some Democrats in Congress to pass a national ban on TikTok, the social video app owned by Chinese company ByteDance which has already been banned on federal devices and some college campuses over privacy concerns. Key Facts TikTok has faced calls for bans from critics who fear China may use the platform to access the data of American users.
