Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Travis Forman, Portfolio Manager at Strategic Private Wealth Counsel - Harbourfront Wealth Management . Not to alarm you, but there may be a red flag in your portfolio. You might have a sound investment plan and be adequately diversified, but how are you protecting your purchasing power? Do you have inflation-fighting assets in your portfolio? Whether we acknowledge it or not, we are in an era of higher inflation. Just a couple of years ago, inflation was low, and interest rates were at rock bottom. As we know, this has changed significantly since then. While peak inflation of 9.1% in the United States and 8.1% in Canada may no longer be a reality, a swift return to the days of 2% inflation is also unlikely. If you need to hear it from someone other than me, the multinational investment corporation BlackRock agrees. In its 2023 outlook, the firm stated, “we think we are going to be living with inflation … we see … [Read more...] about Know The Red Flag In Your Portfolio

Pairing Wine And Food At Oriole, A Michelin Two-Star In Chicago
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Creating the ideal pairing of wine and food is something that many of us struggle with, and would love to know more about how to make this task a bit more simple. So where to turn to for guidance? How about the wine director at Oriole, a Michelin two-star restaurant in Chicago? Her name is Emily Rosenfeld, and I sat down recently with her to learn her thoughts about what makes for a great wine and food pairing, both specifically with the food at Oriole where she selects all the wines, but also in general, regarding more common dishes consumers enjoy at home. Originally from Indianapolis, Rosenfeld worked in the restaurant industry there for several years. Always looking to learn more, she would make the short trip to Chicago often to discover top restaurants and try new wines. Eventually realizing that there would be a greater selection of prized wines from around the world in Chicago compared to her hometown, she moved … [Read more...] about Pairing Wine And Food At Oriole, A Michelin Two-Star In Chicago

ChatGPT. Looking at the new breed of AI tools including ChatGPT, BingGPT, Bard, Docs GPT, or any of the plethora of AI and heuristics-driven chatbots that are on the scene currently, the first thing you might notice is how incredibly crowded the field is. Experts predict that collectively, these products will profoundly influence the way we interact with all other technologies. … [Read more...] about ‘Making Friends’ With ChatGPT: A Guide To Best Practices For AI Interactions
Forget Bobby Bonilla. Chris Davis Leads MLB’s Highest-Paid Retired Players In 2023.
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Bobby Bonilla collected six All-Star nods, three Silver Slugger Awards and won the World Series with the Marlins in 1997. Yet his name lives in infamy as the face of deferred payments in baseball. Each year, on July 1, New York Mets fans let out a collective groan when they’re reminded that Bonilla agreed to restructure his five-year, $29 million deal signed in 1991 in exchange for an annual payment of $1.2 million, starting in 2011 and ending in 2035. But Bonilla, 60, isn’t the only player collecting checks long after his playing days. MLB teams are still dishing out payments to at least 13 now-retired big leaguers, according to Spotrac data. That includes retained salaries and deferred payments, and excludes players not on rosters that have not explicitly announced their retirement. Collectively, that group of 13 will earn roughly $35 million in 2023. Leading the pack is former Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis at … [Read more...] about Forget Bobby Bonilla. U.S. Regulator Says That Binance Illegally Helped Americans Trade On Its Exchange
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today issued a complaint against Binance, the largest crypto exchange in the world, alleging that the firm put profits over compliance and committed “numerous violations of the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA) and CFTC regulations.” Also mentioned were Changpeng Zhao, the Binance founder and CEO, and former Chief Compliance Officer Samuel Lim, who is cited widely throughout the complaint and allegedly orchestrated much of the malfeasance. Today’s filing is the latest in a series of questionable behaviors by the company. However, while the CFTC is seeking disgorgement of profits, civil monetary penalties, registration bans and a permanent injunction against violations of the CEA and CFTC regulations, the long-term impact of this filing is unclear. ‘Succession’ Season 4, Episode 1 Review: Rummage Sale
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Succession is back for its fourth and final season and that makes me both tremendously happy and a little bit sad. Happy to get one more delicious season of family drama, backstabbing and plotting that makes House Of The Dragon almost look tame by comparison; sad that it’s almost over, of course. I could handle a couple more seasons of Succession. In any case, there’s blood in the water. Logan Roy is making his last gambit and the sharks are circling. Who will end up sitting on the Iron Waystar RoyCo Throne? Who will bend the knee? Let’s talk about it.
