Antisemitic Attacks Hit All-Time High In 2022, ADL Report Says

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Reports of antisemitic incidents in the United States hit record levels in 2022, the Anti-Defamation League said in a report published Thursday, continuing a five-year upswing in antisemitism amid mounting fears the behavior of influential public figures like Donald Trump and Kanye West are normalizing hate. Key Facts The ADL recorded 3,697 antisemitic incidents across the U.S. in 2022, the highest annual total since the organization started tracking incidents in 1979. The figure marks a 36% increase from the year before—itself a record-setting year—and follows a broad uptick in hate towards the American Jewish community over the past five years, three of which recorded record levels of antisemitic incidents. The report said no single factor was responsible for the surge in hate and five states— New York (580), California (518), New Jersey (408), Florida (269) and Texas (211)—collectively accounted … [Read more...] about Antisemitic Attacks Hit All-Time High In 2022, ADL Report Says

With brackets busted, it still pays to play the game within the game. N eal, a 36-year-old insurance broker who lives in Ohio with his wife and two children, is the proud owner of the University of Texas, University of Connecticut, Tennessee, Creighton and Florida Atlantic men’s basketball teams. His wife doesn’t know about his ownership stakes, but hopefully by the end of the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament his $19,000 investment will turn into $50,000. And then, he’ll let her know. “Right now, we’re on a heater,” he says of the March Madness run his teams are on. “We’re still in the red on paper, but I hope that will change quickly with a few wins.” Neal doesn’t technically own any team, of course, but the amateur sports gambler “bought” these college … [Read more...] about Inside A High-Stakes March Madness Calcutta

The Fiduciary Duty Of A First Mover: Keep Moving

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin James Itkoff is the Director of Growth at Bad Birdie who leads all e-commerce acquisition efforts within the high-growth brand. Being a first mover sounds great, and in many respects, it is. You get to change the future of an industry, unlock something disruptive and potentially find a cash cow within a new or crowded industry. But on the other hand, being a first mover is a pressure cooker for founders and executives. The big guys are watching you, and the small brands want to be you. Every move is on grand display, so how can brands such as Bad Birdie continue to grow? They need to keep moving. The challenge here is that moving is much easier said than done. Is it possible to strike lightning in a bottle twice? Perhaps. But more realistically, for many brands, this movement is less of a discovery and more of an evolution. Small incremental tactical changes that lead to progress within a greater strategic goal … [Read more...] about The Fiduciary Duty Of A First Mover: Keep Moving

Galapagos Whale Sharks Undergo Ultrasounds For First Time

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin This isn’t your ultrasound appointment. For one, the doctors on call weren’t sure if the patient(s) would show up. While the Galápagos Islands are one of many global locations that are visited by whale sharks ( Rhincodon typus ) during the year, there was no guarantee they would show. But the signs were promising, with the filter-feeder’s usual food plentiful along the rocky outcrops. The second indication this wasn’t your normal ultrasound appointment is the procedure would be taking place underwater. Not only that, but they were often working in strong currents and, although quite placid in nature, whale sharks are by nature “a lot faster than us, and emerge from the blue with little warning; we only get a short time to work with each animal,” says Marine Megafauna Foundation co-founder Simon J. Pierce, who is author on the paper and stresses the techniques in this research were also quite challenging to apply. … [Read more...] about Galapagos Whale Sharks Undergo Ultrasounds For First Time

They Turned Their Dream To Create A Show-Stopping Museum Devoted To Broadway Into A Reality

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In 2018/2019, the last time Broadway had a full 52-week season, more than 14.77 million people attended a Broadway show. According to the Broadway League these productions have drawn more people to its theaters than all New York City sports teams combined. And yet, during its centuries of existence, Broadway never had its own dedicated museum in the heart of the theater district. That is until now. This past November the Museum of Broadway opened its doors on West 45th Street. Spread along four fun-packed floors, the 26,000 square foot space contains a plethora of costumes, original scripts, immersive exhibits and other unique artifacts. There’s everything from the original Ziegfeld Follies costumes from the early 1900s to the actual wig made from 100,000 strands of hair created by wigmaker Paul Huntley for Patti LuPone in the original 1979 Broadway production of Evita to correspondence between Rent … [Read more...] about They Turned Their Dream To Create A Show-Stopping Museum Devoted To Broadway Into A Reality

Barriers To Employment Fall With The Rise Of Out-Of-State Occupational License Recognition

March 21, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Income tax rate reduction and flattening, along with the expansion of school choice, are among the most consequential policy trends of the early 2020s. However, there is another policy trend emerging that, like income tax relief and greater educational choice, is making states more attractive to workers and employers. That trend is the push by policymakers to remove or mitigate the barriers to employment that state occupational licensing requirements have become. On Tuesday, March 21, Florida legislators will hold a hearing on Senate Bill 1364, legislation to recognize out-of-state occupational licenses held by new residents so that they can get to work and begin earning income in their new home state right away. If this reform, known as Universal License Recognition (ULR), is passed by legislators in Tallahassee and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis (R) this spring, Florida would become state number 22 to enact ULR. … [Read more...] about Barriers To Employment Fall With The Rise Of Out-Of-State Occupational License Recognition

Like The Best Horror Villains, Juventus Are Creeping Up On Serie A

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Like the greatest horror villains, that sound you hear is the heavy footsteps of Juventus climbing back up the Serie A table, slowly ambling, slowly creeping, towards the top four. Miraculously, or perhaps due in part to the sheer inconsistency of every other side in the division bar Napoli, Juve are only seven points away from fourth-placed Milan in the race to secure Champions League football for next season, and only 11 off of Lazio in second. Had it not been for the -15 points deduction incurred for alleged financial doping, Juve would be Napoli’s main contenders, and sitting on 56 points. Since the turn of the year, they’ve only lost three times in all competitions, and after a horrendous start to the season, Max Allegri has finally found a formula and a system that’s working. It hasn’t been pretty on the eye. March 21, 2023 by www.forbes.com

India’s 150 million users were forced to stop using the Chinese-owned app in 2020. But an internal tool reviewed by Forbes showed that ByteDance and TikTok employees can still mine some of their most sensitive data. One employee called it “NSA-To-Go.” By Alexandra S. Levine , Forbes Staff A lmost three years after TikTok’s largest market, India, banned the Chinese-owned social media app over geopolitical tensions, troves of personal data of Indian citizens who once used TikTok remain widely accessible to employees at the company and its Beijing-based parent, ByteDance, Forbes has learned. The revelation comes as President Joe Biden’s administration threatens to ban the platform used by more than 100 million Americans if TikTok’s Chinese owner does not sell its stake. Officials in the highest levels of the U.S. government see a blanket TikTok ban as a possible solution to the country’s national security concerns about the potential for China to surveil or … [Read more...] about India Banned TikTok In 2020.
