March 23, 2023 by thethaiger.com

Beachgoers find giant sea turtle carcass, photo by Pattaya Mail. While there’s been a lot of happy news about turtles in Phang Nga recently, there’s unfortunately been some sad turtle news in Pattaya . A giant sea turtle carcass washed up on Pattaya Beach on Tuesday. Beachgoers noticed the carcass and detected a foul odour in the early hours of the morning. They promptly informed the authorities of the discovery. Officials from the Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center estimated that the turtle had been dead for several days before it washed ashore. The turtle measured between 80 to 90 centimetres wide, and 100 to 120 centimetres long. It weighed approximately 60 kilogrammes, and was estimated to be between 40 to 50 years old, Pattaya Mail reported. The only sign of injury was a damaged back leg. To determine the cause of death, the turtle was recovered and taken for an autopsy. By Mike Ozanian and Justin Teitelbaum T he eroding economics of regional sports networks made little difference: Major League Baseball teams are still hot assets. Before Arte Moreno pulled the plug on selling his Los Angeles Angels in January, he would have gotten at least $2.7 billion, or $280 million more than the MLB record $2.42 billion that Steve Cohen paid for the New York Mets in 2020, according to people familiar with the sale process. The average MLB team value is up 12% this year, to $2.32 billion. During the 2022 season, revenue (net of stadium debt service) increased 7.8%, to an all-time high of $10.3 billion. March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Key Facts Toxoplasma gondii is a near-ubiquitous parasite that infects a wide variety of warm-blooded animals, including humans, and is transmitted by wild and domestic cats. While it commonly infects sea otters, genetic testing revealed all four had been infected with a particularly unusual strain of the parasite that appears to be capable of rapidly killing its host, according to a study published Wednesday in Frontiers in Marine Science . Three Steps To Build The Future Of Nature

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Don’t Rescue It – Design And Engineer It Through Experimentation At Scale The future has a way of sneaking up on you if you don’t have an open mind. Ten years ago, my colleague Peter Kareiva was talking about genetically engineering meat – and I thought, “That’s never going to happen in my lifetime.” And now look where we are . So what’s the future of nature? Many people answer this question by immediately assuming the worst – that human activity (led by climate change) is likely to destroy nature and all of us who depend on it. We need to pose the question as a prompt to creative thinking instead of despair. Only an open, innovative mindset will allow us to seize all the opportunities now before us. And that openness starts with being open about what nature itself is and can be. Step One: Accept That We Are Experimenting with Nature at Big Scales, and Do So Intentionally The first step in thinking … [Read more...] about Three Steps To Build The Future Of Nature

Key Facts There have been six runway incidents since the start of the year, including close calls involving a departing plane at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York and another at Austin-Bergstrom Airport involving a plane that was landing (none of the incidents resulted in fatalities). The recent spate of close calls doesn’t reflect an increase in the number of incidents, but the FAA warned the “potential severity of these events is concerning.” The FAA urged airline directors and pilots to use “all available internal communication systems and have all flight crews familiarize themselves with the “risks associated with … [Read more...] about FAA Urges Airlines To Review Safety Procedures After String Of ‘Concerning’ Near-Misses
