Flint, Michigan, Councilman Eric Mays recently berated a reporter from one of the local papers. Mays previously pleaded guilty to felonious assault and has been sentenced to jail and community service as part of other plea deals. Mayor Karen Weaver has instructed her staff not to talk to media, despite the numerous significant scandals Flint has faced, according to a councilwoman. A felon-turned-city councilman in Flint, Michigan, berated a young reporter in the council chambers, calling her “nasty” and repeatedly saying she was ignorant. “You’re a nasty woman. Maybe it’s a cultural difference,” Councilman Eric Mays said to reporter Zahra Ahmad , who is Muslim. “She ain’t from Flint.” Mays also threatened to call the police on Ahmad. Ahmad is one of the only print reporters to cover the impoverished city’s government, but Mayor Karen Weaver has prohibited her administration from speaking to journalists, according to one elected official. “The mayor has told her … [Read more...] about Flint Councilman Berates Muslim Reporter: ‘Nasty Woman. - A + A KUALA LUMPUR (May 26): Former Sabah infrastructure development minister Datuk Peter Anthony has been found guilty of forging a letter in 2014 from the office of the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) deputy vice-chancellor for a system maintenance contract work. In delivering her judgement orally on Thursday (May 26), Sessions Court Judge Azura Alwi said that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt on the prosecution's case, while the prosecution had proven its case beyond any reasonable doubt. She added that although there was no direct evidence, there was circumstantial evidence to show that the former vice-president of Parti Warisan Sabah had indeed forged the said document for his benefit. Flint To Rescind Lead Pipe Contract From Lowest Bidder And Award It To Politically-Connected Firm, Delaying Fixes
Flint, Michigan, said it will rescind a water-line repair contract offered to Goyette Mechanical, the the lowest bidder and the only firm that has completed previous work on time. The mayor instead wants to give the contract to politically-connected WT Stevens, which Goyette says is so far behind on its previous work that residents may be kept waiting for two years. Mayor Karen Weaver’s top advisor previously ordered work to be steered to WT Stevens, threatening “trouble” if his order was disobeyed. For the second time, the city of Flint, Michigan, is poised to reject the results of its contract bidding process after an experienced local firm provided the lowest offer. “This is unethical, it is bid rigging, and I certainly won’t be a part of this,” city Councilwoman Eva Worthing said during a Tuesday meeting. “Does council and the city want to deal with a lawsuit over unfair bidding practices by this city? This is favoritism, cronyism … This is basically a sham, it’s … [Read more...] about Flint To Rescind Lead Pipe Contract From Lowest Bidder And Award It To Politically-Connected Firm, Delaying Fixes
Global Chip Supply-Demand Imbalance Is Spurring Industry Change: NXP CEO Kurt Sievers
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As the global semiconductor industry approaches mid-year, demand continues to exceed supply, spurring changes in the government role in the industry and in the way suppliers partner with customers, NXP Semiconductors CEO Kurt Sievers said in online presentation at Taiwan’s biggest annual technology fair on Tuesday. The industry in the past two years has been “pretty challenged,” said the leader of Eindhoven, Netherlands-headquartered NXP, one of the world’s largest chip suppliers, particularly to an auto industry facing transformation toward electric vehicles and away from traditional internal combustion engine technology. “Pretty much after the pandemic was hitting the world in the beginning of 2020, the demand for semiconductors saw an unprecedented growth — I would almost call it an explosion of demand,” Sievers said. The increase, he said, has been in part due to the acceleration of “edge” computing that moves … [Read more...] about Global Chip Supply-Demand Imbalance Is Spurring Industry Change: NXP CEO Kurt Sievers

Navy Releases Grim USS Connecticut (SSN 22) Investigation; DoD Must Demand Accountability
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A heavily redacted Command Investigation into the “apparent striking of a submerged object by USS Connecticut ,” one of America’s three Seawolf Class submarines, paints a grim picture for the U.S. Navy. The investigation, completed 7 months ago and only released this week, portrays a Navy in real crisis. It is unclear what—if anything—the Navy has done to date that fundamentally addresses what appears to be a disastrous breakdown in submariner standards, basic discipline, and operational competence. It portrays a Navy unready for conflict, rife with major, long-standing navigational oversights in key, contested operational areas. Certainly, the Navy handled the ceremonial, unit-level discipline well. It fired the command trio of the submarine days after the investigation closed and instituted a rolling, force-wide “ navigation stand down ” two weeks later. But that is not enough. With the nation … [Read more...] about Navy Releases Grim USS Connecticut (SSN 22) Investigation; DoD Must Demand Accountability
