SHANGHAI – China’s first batch of publicly traded rental property real estate investment trusts (REITs) was snapped up in Shanghai and Shenzhen by yield-hungry investors this week, opening up a new financing channel for the struggling real estate sector. The three newly launched REITs, based on affordable rental properties, were each more than 100 times oversubscribed among institutional investors, managers said in filings. The REITs will raise a combined 3.8 billion yuan ($56 million), based on Reuters’ calculations, and the subscription periods ended early. The rental property REIT launches come as Beijing steps up efforts to aid the real estate business, a sector that was a pillar of growth in the world’s second-biggest economy over the last two decades but is now reeling amid debt piles, mortgage boycotts and sluggish sales. China launched a public REITs market based on infrastructure projects about a year ago, but this week’s launches mark the first time the REIT market has … [Read more...] about China’s first publicly traded rental property REITs snapped up by investors

Who is Drew Findling? #BillionDollarLawyer defends Trump in Georgia election probe
It’s hard to keep track of all Donald Trump’s legal woes, both in and out of office, not to mention the cast of characters who’ve been hired to defend the former president. In Georgia, a grand jury is inquiring into Trump’s seeming attempt to change the outcome of the state’s 2020 election results, including the infamous call in which he requested the secretary of state “find 11,780 votes.” In this particular legal battle, instead of turning to another haphazard right-wing media pundit to defend him, Trump has tapped the famed #BillionDollarLawyer, Drew Findling. Here’s what we know about Trump’s new lawyer: advertisement Trump and Findling are polar opposites. According to Findling’s social media presence , he is a pro-choice, anti-mass-incarceration advocate who gives speeches on defending battered woman syndrome cases. Findling and his new conservative client do have one thing in common: They’ve been regulars on Fox News. Findling has shared … [Read more...] about Who is Drew Findling? #BillionDollarLawyer defends Trump in Georgia election probe

REUTERS/Wolfgang Rattay/ File phto BRUSSELS – Euro zone inflation reached a new record high of 8.9 percent year-on-year in July, the EU’s statistics office confirmed on Thursday, with the core measure, excluding the most volatile components and key for monetary policy, also sharply up. The European Union’s statistics office Eurostat said consumer prices in the 19 countries using the euro rose 0.1 percent month-on-month in July for a 8.9 percent year-on-year increase, the highest since the euro was created in 1999. Eurostat said that of the total, 4.02 percentage points came from more expensive energy — the costs of which surged because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — and 2.08 percentage points from more expensive food alcohol and tobacco. But even when these most volatile components are excluded, in what the European Central Bank calls core inflation and watches closely … [Read more...] about Euro zone July inflation confirmed at 8.9% y/y, core measure sharply up

How a Disney Map Helped My Company Survive the Death of the Direct-to-Consumer Model
Every week, the same headline repeats: DTC upstart heads to retail. You can now find Magic Spoon at Target, Glossier at Sephora, and Away at Amazon, and the list goes on. This month, Yumi, the company I co-founded, also threw our proverbial hat into the brick-and-mortar ring, with a full nationwide launch at Target and nearly 2,000 stores. So, yes, the "era of DTC" as we know it is dead . But I would argue that the DTC era was an important pit stop to the inevitable omnichannel future. In the initial version of our company pitch deck, we created a future road map inspired by Walt Disney's famous Synergy Map in 1957, when he envisioned Disney's 60-year road map in a napkin sketch. He doesn't explicitly name Disney+, its big gambit in connected TV, or the purchase of Pixar, but all the breadcrumbs are there for the sprawling online and offline empire we know today. Our Disney map slide showed Yumi's later-stage selling channels would include real-life festivals for … [Read more...] about How a Disney Map Helped My Company Survive the Death of the Direct-to-Consumer Model
States Laws & Insurance Coverage for Fertility Treatments & Medication
People who are affected by infertility do have options to try, but in vitro fertilization (IVF) and the diagnostics, medication, surgery, and other treatments can be expensive. On a global scale, 15% of reproductive-aged couples are impacted by infertility around the world, according to World Health Organization (WHO) estimates. The majority of people affected by infertility (including men, women, LGBTQ couples, and single people), will pay out-of-pocket . Depending on the treatment, out-of-pocket costs can easily reach thousands of dollars. Some states have laws that require insurance companies to cover treatment for infertility, but the laws vary. Here, we'll explain how state laws affect insurance coverage for fertility treatment in more detail.
