The Real Problem Behind Quiet Quitting And Quiet Hiring

March 20, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When “quiet quitting” emerged last summer, the workforce was divided into two groups: those who stick to their job descriptions and those who don’t. Discussions about quiet quitting emerged when a viral TikTok video described the act as limiting your involvement in work that extends beyond the job you were hired to do. As awareness about quiet quitting grew, so did the backlash. What young Millennials and Gen-Zers viewed as a healthy work-life balance, older employers interpreted as a poor work ethic and sign of entitlement. Like most contentious topics trending in the media, it wasn’t long before quit quitting lost traction to something more novel. Taking its place has been the new—but equally silent trend—quiet hiring. Quiet hiring is when employers give their employees additional tasks so they can avoid the time and financial costs of hiring someone new. Although the term for quiet quitting appeared relatively … [Read more...] about The Real Problem Behind Quiet Quitting And Quiet Hiring

Three Ways To Prevent Quiet Quitting

March 20, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Anita Samojednik is CEO of Paro, a startup disrupting the way companies access on-demand financial expertise. The term "quiet quitting" has dominated media headlines and social media over the past few months. TikTok might have popularized the buzzword, but the concept is far from new. Despite the name, quiet quitting has little to do with quitting. Rather, an employee chooses to work their required hours and take on no additional responsibilities beyond their defined role. To me, this isn’t surprising. After a global pandemic, people are paying more attention to their mental health and personal well-being. According to my company’s recent survey of more than 2,000 full-time and self-employed knowledge workers, 39% said work-life balance was the most important aspect of their job in 2022, ahead of 28% who cited compensation. Given professionals’ focus on creating a better work-life balance, along with many … [Read more...] about Three Ways To Prevent Quiet Quitting

‘Sustainable’ Electric Cars Are Getting Junked Over Minor Damage

March 20, 2023 by dailycaller.com

Insurers are being forced to write off many electric vehicles with only minor damage to battery packs, sending the batteries to scrap yards and hindering the climate benefits of going electric, Reuters reported. Battery packs typically represent roughly half the cost of an electric vehicle, sometimes costing tens of thousands of dollars, often making it more economical for insurers to consider a car as totalled than replace a battery pack, according to Reuters. While many carmakers, including Ford and GM, told Reuters that their battery packs were repairable, many are unwilling to share key data with third-party insurers to help assess damage. (RELATED: Biden’s Energy Secretary Calls Going Green ‘The Greatest Peace Plan’ In History) “The number of cases is going to increase, so the handling of batteries is a crucial point,” Christoph Lauterwasser, managing director of the research institute Allianz Center for Technology, told Reuters. “If you throw away the vehicle at an … [Read more...] about ‘Sustainable’ Electric Cars Are Getting Junked Over Minor Damage

After Stanford, What’s Next For Haley Jones?

March 20, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While the 2022-23 season didn’t end the way Haley Jones envisioned it for Stanford — with a 54-49 loss to Mississippi that concluded Jones’ senior season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament — Jones’ multi-dimensional life plan means she’s just getting started on what’s on tap for 2023. “Yeah, my time at Stanford has been interesting,” Jones told reporters following the game Sunday. “I guess, you know, COVID, freshman year, that played into a lot of different things, and then the COVID season that's unheard of. I never expected that to be part of my college experience. “So then winning a National Championship, three Pac-12 Championships, 2 Pac-12 Tournament Championships; so I have a lot to be proud of for my Stanford career. It's hard to feel that way right now, but I know at some point that will hit and sink in. Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett Touts Mental Health, Being Approachable Part Of UFC Life

March 20, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Everyone who’s ever met or spoken to Paddy Pimblett could probably attest to one thing. He’s as easygoing as anyone you'll ever talk to. And the simplest conversations with the mixed martial arts fighter feel like a chat with an old friend down at the pub. Perhaps it was for that reason that Pimblett, who called me “fella” and “lad” throughout our short Zoom interview earlier this month, seems like the kind of that Guy Ritchie would cast in one of his films. I mention that and ask if he sees “Paddy The Baddy” in future motion pictures. “Yeah, definitely,” Pimblett said. “I’ll be in movies one day, lad. Don't worry about that. I’ll be in films, 100%!” Pimblett kicked off the month of March with a trip to Southern California, where he hoped to catch some sun and train with a group of professional MMA fighters from Indonesia. While on his trip to San Diego and Los Angeles, Pimblett visited with UFC legend Chuck … [Read more...] about Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett Touts Mental Health, Being Approachable Part Of UFC Life

Remember These 7 Public Speaking Basics When Presenting Overseas

March 20, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I recently traveled to Pakistan after being invited to speak about personal branding with a group of entrepreneurs and business owners in Lahore and Karachi. I’d never been to that part of the world before, and I wasn’t at all familiar with the business, professional, or cultural scene there. Delivering a workshop on the other side of the world where you’re unfamiliar with the language, culture, and local dynamics presents unique challenges for speakers whose job is to hold the attention of an audience for several hours. As someone who regularly gives talks to international audiences, I was confident I could host a valuable workshop, but acutely aware this specific assignment would be challenging due to my extremely limited knowledge of the region. My days in Pakistan were eye-opening to say the least, both personally and professionally. Presenting in a completely different region illuminated some of my blind spots, and … [Read more...] about Remember These 7 Public Speaking Basics When Presenting Overseas

March 20, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin We all know networking is important, but we don’t always prioritize it. Yet we should! The strongest personal brands have rich and diverse networks. I reached out to Michael Melcher, the author of the upcoming book Your Invisible Network: How to Create, Maintain, and Leverage the Relationships That Will Transform Your Career to inspire us to give networking the attention it deserves. William Arruda: There are lots of books on networking and relationship building. Why did you write this one, and what makes it different? Michael Melcher : People “kind of“ know the value of relationships. But they get stuck because relationship building has a lot of nuance and can be quite complex. How do you reach out to someone you haven’t kept up with? When you ask, should you be direct or indirect? What if reciprocity seems impossible, such as when the other person is more senior or more powerful than you? How exactly are you … [Read more...] about How To Use Networking To Transform Your Career: A Conversation With Michael Melcher
