MORE FROM FORBES Apple Could Release iPhone 14 And iPhone 14 Pro Sooner Than Expected By David Phelan But there’s a big change which will come to all models of AirPods (regular, Pro and Max) as soon as next year and that’s the move from Lightning connector to USB-C for the charging case. However, it’s possible that the next AirPods, that is the second-generation AirPods Pro 2 due next month could bring that change first. This is all according to Ming-Chi Kuo, the highly rated analyst from TFI Securities who has just revealed that all AirPods will have USB-C charging cases next year. Kuo’s tweet in full: “I predict Apple will launch USB-C-capable charging cases for all AirPods models in 2023. Forget The New MacBook Pro, Apple Has Something Much Better
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Apple’s decision to continue with its entry-level MacBook Pro remains curious, sitting as it does in a no man's land between the popular MacBook Air and the capable 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops. It’s hard to justify recommending this laptop. Not only that but there are compelling reasons to ignore the MacBook Pro and consider Apple’s MacBook Air. First up is the power. Tim Cook and his team are rightly proud of Apple Silicon and the impact this has had on the Mac product line. Consumers are conscious of an increase in battery life, the ability to run at cooler temperatures, and no loud fans or active cooling… big ticket items. Moving to ARM made these relatively easy to achieve… something that felt just out of reach for the Intel x86-based MacBook Airs. Much is made of Apple Silicon’s increased performance and power, but that’s further down the list of demands a MacBook Air user will likely need. By that, I … [Read more...] about Forget The New MacBook Pro, Apple Has Something Much Better
Apple’s New MacBook Pro Struggles To Stand Out Against The Competition
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Apple’s two consumer-based laptops for 2022 - the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air - are both powered by the Apple Silicon M2 chipsets . There will be a natural tendency for those lusting after a new laptop to look first at the MacBook Pro with its increased performance and extensive capabilities. Yet the looks, the speed, and the potential may not be enough to sell the 13-inch MacBook Pro when you compare the macOS portable to either the MacBook Air or the larger professional MacBook Pro models. First of all, one of the reasons that many will turn towards a MacBook Pro rather than a MacBook Air is the extra perceived power available in the Pro. While that is the case with the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops, the 13-inch MacBook runs the same M2 chipset as the MacBook Air. While adding a fan allows the M2 to run hotter in the MacBook Pro and deliver more performance, the base M2 here is no match for the M1 … [Read more...] about Apple’s New MacBook Pro Struggles To Stand Out Against The Competition
Apple Leaker Reports Massive iPhone 14 Pro Speed Boost
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin 06/21 Update below. This post was originally published on June 18 For the first time in iPhone history, Apple is expected to give its new iPhones different chipset generations . Expectations were that the differences between them would be small, but a new leak may have blown those presumptions away. In a shock to the system, anonymous leaker iHacktu reports that Apple's new A16 chip, which is exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro models, delivers seismic performance and battery gains over the 2021 A15 which is being retained for non-Pro models. And the findings have received support from one of the industry's most respected insiders. Breaking down the results, iHacktu says A16 has 42% and 35% faster CPU and GPU performance respectively, compared to its predecessor. Gains of this magnitude haven't been seen since the iPhone 7's A10 chip in 2016, which had 40% greater CPU performance and 50% greater GPU performance than … [Read more...] about Apple Leaker Reports Massive iPhone 14 Pro Speed Boost
Leaked iPhone 14 Pro Display Found In Apple iOS 16 Code
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The first iOS 16 beta release is here and Apple has left a treasure trove of information in its code, including a surprise new HomePod launch . Now an upgrade tipped to be an iPhone 14 Pro exclusive has also been discovered. Spotted by 9to5Mac , iOS 16 contains "multiple references that confirm iOS 16 does indeed include support for an always-on display". This is a feature Apple chose to leave out of the official iOS 16 launch and, explaining its omission, something Bloomberg's Mark Gurman recently claimed will be exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro models . Breaking down its discovery, 9to5Mac explains: "Within iOS 16, there are three new frameworks that have been added that relate to backlight management of the iPhone’s display. Backlight management is a key aspect of enabling an always-on feature. Each of these frameworks includes references to an always-on display capability." The site points out that the … [Read more...] about Leaked iPhone 14 Pro Display Found In Apple iOS 16 Code
New Apple Exclusive Exposes iPhone 14 Price Shock
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin iPhones are about to get more expensive. Recent iPhone 14 leaks claim Apple will raise prices, though there is disagreement on how much and which models. Now, one of the industry’s most respected insiders has an explanation. In new tweets , TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that the “iPhone 14 series ASP [average selling price] would increase by about 15% vs iPhone 13 series ASP.” Yes, 15% is significantly higher than previous price leaks , and it has set alarm bells ringing about a potential $1300 entry-level iPhone 14 Pro Max. But the full picture is a little more complicated. Kuo explains that the average ASP for iPhone 14 models will be circa $1,000-$1,050 “due to two iPhone 14 Pro’s price hikes and higher shipment proportion.” Breaking this down is difficult, but Kuo’s numbers indicate that the iPhone 13 range’s ASP was closer to $900. This means customers are expected to pay, on … [Read more...] about New Apple Exclusive Exposes iPhone 14 Price Shock
New iPad Leak Opens Door For iPhone 15 USB-C Move
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Last week an eye-opening report claimed that Apple will split its iPhone 15 release in two with standard models continuing to use the Lightning port and Pro models moving to USB-C. Now a new iPad leak has made this twist seem even more likely. In an exclusive report, 9toMac has revealed Apple's next entry-level iPad will pack an A14 Bionic chipset, support for 5G and — yes — that it will drop Lightning in favor of a USB-C port. And this indicates a decisive shift. If correct, the leak would mark a major first: the first time Apple has released a consumer-focused mobile device with USB-C. The iPad Pro made the transition to USB-C back in 2018, but Apple justified the move by saying the port was only needed by professionals. Even today, Apple promotes USB-C on the iPad Pro for its compatibility with accessories such as DSLR cameras, external monitors, external storage, audio interfaces and MIDI devices ahead of … [Read more...] about New iPad Leak Opens Door For iPhone 15 USB-C Move
Forget iPhone 14: Apple Insider Reveals iPhone 15 Split Release Strategy
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Apple will give the iPhone 14 Pro an eye-catching redesign this year, but now a new leak has revealed an even more significant design change is coming next. Popular anonymous industry insider LeaksApplePro , claims that Apple will break with convention by carving the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro release in two. Non-Pro models will stick with Apple's proprietary Lightning port while iPhone 15 Pro models will move to USB-C. And that's just the start. With pressure mounting on Apple following the EU's decision to force all smartphone manufacturers to adopt USB-C by Fall 2024, LeaksApplePro shows the iPhone maker will jump before it is pushed. "Lightning is coming to an end," the leaker states, revealing that the split port release of the iPhone 15 range in 2023 will be followed by the full-range switching to USB-C for the iPhone 16 lineup in 2024 ahead of the EU deadline. Interestingly, LeaksApplePro points out … [Read more...] about Forget iPhone 14: Apple Insider Reveals iPhone 15 Split Release Strategy

iPhone 14 Analysis Details Potentially Large Performance Gains
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin iPhone 14 Pro performance is expected to leave iPhone 14 models in the dust, and now we might just have our best look yet at how much. MacWorld’s Jason Cross has published a detailed breakdown of every leaked iPhone 14 Pro component and combined it with public information from suppliers to reveal “performance beyond a speed boost”. The headlines are a 25-30% boost in graphics performance and a massive 50% increase in memory bandwidth. But there is disappointment when it comes to the CPU. Cross projects Apple’s A16 chip will deliver just a 15% increase in CPU performance compared to the A15 chip in the iPhone 13 lineup, which is expected to be used again in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max. This is a shock given a leak last month claimed a CPU leap of > 40% , though that source agrees with the circa 30% GPU estimates. In isolation, a 15% bump would not be surprising because Apple has had more iterative CPU … [Read more...] about iPhone 14 Analysis Details Potentially Large Performance Gains
