Here’s a list of some of the hip things Barack Obama has done while serving as President of the United States of America: He serenaded his daughter on her 18th birthday accompanied on vocals by Kendrick Lamar and Janelle Monae; he slow-jammed the news with The Roots and Jimmy Fallon; he had Keegan Michael Key reprise his role as “Luther,” the President’s anger translator, at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner; in his final years in office, he began releasing an annual summer playlist full of a mix of classic jams (The Temptations, Nina Simone) and new and indie finds (Chance the Rapper, Okkervil River); the list goes on. Regardless of your feelings about the man’s politics or leadership, any assessment of his time in office would be dishonest if it didn’t at least admit that Obama made America cool again. advertisement advertisement Of course, as he winds down the days until he leaves office, there will be other opportunities for … [Read more...] about Spotify Has A Job Opening! The pervasiveness of fake news during the 2016 election—and its possible impact on the results—has prompted social media companies to crack down on the rapid spread of misinformation on their platforms. But these policies focus on fake news in the form they took during the election—articles, posts, and Twitter bots. But what if fake news began to take on another form, with the help of artificial intelligence? What if fake news could be spread by hyperrealistic video, straight from the mouth of a public figure you trust? advertisement advertisement A team of researchers from University of Washington has figured out a way to use neural networks to generate fake video of Barack Obama. And while the … [Read more...] about Watch This Video Of Obama–It’s The Future Of Fake News
Remember back in 2017 when Spotify created a position of President of Playlists that had Barack Obama’s name written all over it? Well, President Obama didn’t take that job, but he is now working at Spotify. Today, Spotify announced that Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground, has signed a partnership deal to produce podcasts that are exclusive to the streaming platform. The podcast deal is similar to the production deal the Obamas signed with Netflix. In the multi-year Spotify deal, the Obamas will develop, produce, and “lend their voices” (guessing that means host?) to select podcasts on a variety of topics. The podcast deal extends their storytelling and their mission to lift up new, diverse voices from film and television to the audio world. (And don’t tell Luminary, but this might mean that Spotify is actually the Netflix of podcasts.) “We’ve always believed in the value of entertaining, thought-provoking … [Read more...] about Barack and Michelle Obama’s podcast company signs exclusive deal with Spotify
President Trump’s surprise push Sunday to move U.S. troops from Syria, potentially opening the door for Turkish operations against Kurdish forces on the border of the two countries, quickly drew criticism from both sides of the political aisle. advertisement Even frequent Trump allies, such as Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, quickly condemned the move, which could leave Kurdish troops who fought against ISIS open to Turkish attack. But while Graham called Trump’s decision “impulsive,” others questioned whether Trump might have deeper motives, including economic ones. In a December 2015 interview with the right-wing news outlet Breitbart, then-candidate Trump responded to a question about Turkey’s reliability in the fight against ISIS by saying he had a “little conflict of interest,” speaking of the Trump Towers in Istanbul. It’s unclear exactly how much money Trump and his companies get from those twin … [Read more...] about Trump Towers Istanbul gets a second look after president’s surprise Syria move
