Crypto Funds Post Record $423 Million Outflows As Bitcoin Plunge Rattles Market

June 27, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Investors piled out of cryptocurrency investment funds at a record pace last week after bitcoin plummeted to its lowest level in 18 months, crypto asset management firm CoinShares reported Monday, highlighting the bearishness that's come to a head this month as markets grapple with the Federal Reserve's reversal of pandemic-era stimulus measures. Key Facts Cryptocurrency funds posted net outflows of $423 million last week, eclipsing the prior record of $198 million set as crypto markets tumbled in January and bringing total assets down to $36.2 billion, according to a Monday report by CoinShares. Cash transferred out of bitcoin funds drove the record activity, with net outflows of $453 million—virtually erasing all inflows this year and pushing assets in such funds down to $24.5 billion, the lowest level since the beginning of last year, CoinShares reported. CoinShares' James Butterfill notes … [Read more...] about Crypto Funds Post Record $423 Million Outflows As Bitcoin Plunge Rattles Market

June 28, 2022 by www.thejakartapost.com

Yuka Obayashi and Elaine Lies (Reuters) (The Jakarta Post) PREMIUM Tokyo   ● Tue, June 28 2022 Japan scrambled on Monday to avert a looming power crunch as temperatures climbed nationwide, with authorities warning of higher than expected demand after the rainy season ended in the capital, Tokyo, at its earliest since record-keeping began. Less than two weeks ahead of an election for the upper house of parliament, surging electrical prices are making life tougher for Japanese customers, following higher fuel costs brought by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. A power shortage could batter the fortunes of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), already under fire for its handling of higher consumer prices. to Read Full Story SUBSCRIBE NOW Starting from IDR 55,500/month Unlimited access to our web and app content e-Post daily digital newspaper No advertisements, no interruptions Privileged access to our events and programs Subscription to our … [Read more...] about Japan braces for power crunch as heat mounts

Bruised bitcoin due relief after crypto wipeout, charts show

June 27, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A (June 27): The wipeout in Bitcoin may have run its course, a range of technical indicators suggest. Momentum measures and insights from options bets signal ebbing selling pressure and a possible trading range of US$20,000 to US$25,000 — though the usual caveats apply about the mercurial nature of cryptocurrencies. The largest digital token has slumped about 70% from a November record and was little changed at US$21,343 as of 8:38 a.m. Monday in London. It slid below US$18,000 earlier this month, before retaking the closely watched US$20,000 level. Tightening monetary policy, withering speculative ardor and collapsing digital-asset projects have spurred a broad crypto rout in 2022. But the mood in global markets is turning less dour on tentative hopes that the price pressures driving interest-rate hikes may be cresting. The lessons of Bitcoin’s past swoons suggest it’s in the vicinity of its bear-market low, according to Glassnode. This “bear market is now … [Read more...] about Bruised bitcoin due relief after crypto wipeout, charts show

Don’t Let Job Hunting Become a Power Struggle

June 3, 2022 by www.inc.com

Like many people, when I need to schedule a meeting, I use an electronic tool that tells people my availability and lets them match theirs. I use Calendly, but there are many others out there. It seems to me like pretty much everyone else does as well. It doesn't matter to me whether I send you the Calendly link or you send me one--anything to save the ridiculous back and forth! So I was surprised when yesterday I encountered two different recruiters with scheduling difficulties brought on by candidates behaving in unexpected ways. The first, a tech recruiter, became frustrated when she asked for a candidate's availability, and the candidate responded with his Calendly link. The second came from a question on my Inc. colleague Alison Green's Ask a Manager blog, where candidates were simply telling the recruiter that they could meet at X time. While conversations around both went back and forth, it all boils down to power. Here's why and what to do about it. … [Read more...] about Don’t Let Job Hunting Become a Power Struggle

Tokyo June heatwave worst since 1875 as power supply creaks under strain

June 28, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

Pedestrians uses a portable fan on the street during a heatwave in Tokyo, Japan, June 27, 2022. - A + A TOKYO (June 28): Japan baked under scorching temperatures for a fourth successive day on Tuesday, as the capital's heat broke nearly 150-year-old records for June and authorities warned power supply remained tight enough to raise the spectre of cuts. The heatwave comes less than two weeks before a national election in which prices, including the cost of electricity, are among key issues picked by voters in opinion polls that showed the government's approval rating slipping — with politicians including Tokyo's governor urging power price cuts. Temperatures in the capital hit 35.1 °C by 1pm local time on Tuesday (0400 GMT), after three successive days of temperatures topping 35 °C — the worst streak of hot weather in June since records began in 1875. And the heatwave is not about to break: the Japan Meteorological Agency forecast highs of 36 °C for Tokyo on … [Read more...] about Tokyo June heatwave worst since 1875 as power supply creaks under strain

The Online Audio Entrepreneur Helping Brands To Leverage Their Broadcasting Power

June 23, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As a teenager, James Mulvany had plans for a career in radio. He was also a self-confessed computer nerd, and when he was bitten by the online broadcasting bug, his plans took a dramatic turn. Today the Manchester-based serial entrepreneur is blazing a trail in the online audio space. Mulvaney is the CEO and founder of Radio.co , a cloud-based platform that allows anyone to start a radio station without the need for expensive studio equipment, Podcast.co , which uses the same principle to let people host their own podcasts, and Matchmaker.fm , an online platform that connects podcasters with guests. At school, he taught himself to use Photoshop and started making money designing websites, although his real passion lay in radio, and in particular the burgeoning online audio space. “I’d always wanted to be a radio DJ presenter, and had done a few gigs,” he says. “But I was also still into the tech side of things … [Read more...] about The Online Audio Entrepreneur Helping Brands To Leverage Their Broadcasting Power

Remember our warriors

June 27, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

A LOCALLY produced movie based on the historical character Mat Kilau created waves when it reaped more than RM1mil at the boxoffice on the first day of its release. This is good news for the Malaysian movie industry, which was as badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic as most industries. It is also heartwarming to know that Malaysians have not forgotten their heroes who fought injustice and oppression. History is witness to the fact that Mat Kilau was one of the greatest nationalists to fight colonialism. Born in Pahang in the 1860s and raised in Malay Muslim traditions, he was guided by his father to obey and be loyal to the rulers. Coming from a simple family, he learnt humility at an early age. He was against oppression and felt that the Malays were oppressed by the British who forbade any tax collections by the locals. The locals also needed to have a licence to collect wood and other necessities from the jungle. He grew up to face colonial oppression by learning silat. It … [Read more...] about Remember our warriors

Tencent backer Prosus to cut US$134 bil stake to buy stock

June 27, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A HONG KONG/JOHANNESBURG (June 27): Prosus NV is planning to sell more of its US$134 billion stake in Chinese internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd to finance a buyback programme, reversing a pledge to hold onto the full shareholding. Tencent declined in Hong Kong on Monday as investors pondered the extent to which Prosus, the Chinese company’s biggest shareholder, will unload its stock. The shares fell as much as 2.5% and traded 1.6% lower at the close. “We will keep selling Tencent shares to buy back our own, it’s open-ended and an unlimited programme,” Prosus Chief Executive Officer Bob Van Dijk said in an interview. “It’s actually a small part of Tencent daily traded volumes — it should be maximum between 3% to 5%.” The move represents a change of heart by Dutch e-commerce giant Prosus — majority owned by South Africa’s Naspers Ltd — which said after its last sale in April 2021 it wouldn’t offload more shares for three years. The company, spun off from … [Read more...] about Tencent backer Prosus to cut US$134 bil stake to buy stock

Frontier-debt buyers look past default risk in hunger for yield

June 27, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A MUMBAI/MANILA (June 27): Signs of distress flashing in bond markets suggest the world's poorest nations are set to see a wave of debt restructurings. But a growing cohort of investors say that is a buying opportunity. Panic selling in the aftermath of Sri Lanka's economic collapse has sent the average yield in junk-rated emerging economies to almost 900 basis points above US Treasuries, the highest risk premium in 13 years except for the Covid-19-related rout in 2020, according to JPMorgan Chase & Co data. Yet, initial fears about a widespread default Armageddon across emerging markets is easing, and money managers are looking beyond the handful of countries that may reschedule their debt. This shift in perception means at least some smaller developing nations, called frontier markets, have been unduly punished in the recent sell-off and now offer highly attractive yields. Even in the event of debt restructuring, their bonds will offer greater recovery … [Read more...] about Frontier-debt buyers look past default risk in hunger for yield
