Dr Sewanti Limaye, Director, Precision Oncology, HN Reliance Hospital and Research Centre. Cancer is among the most researched diseases in the world. For most cancers, early detection is rare, and there isn’t enough consensus among oncologists, researchers and practitioners of non-Western medicine on its exact causes. Overall, a few broad causes have been conclusively established: Cancer may arise as a consequence of genomic abnormalities such as mutations, or when the body’s immune system weakens or collapses, or due to external assaults to the body such as tobacco use, exposure to chemicals and radiation and certain infections. But much like the human body, much of this disease is a mystery. There is no one cause and there is no one cure. As Pulitzer Prize-winning author and oncologist Siddhartha Mukherjee has written in his cancer magnum opus The Emperor of All Maladies , “That this seemingly simple mechanism—cell growth without barriers—can lie at the heart of this … [Read more...] about World Cancer Day 2023 | Precision oncology is a new way of looking at cancer treatment: Dr Sewanti Limaye

Dying For The Perfect Photo Or Video – Is Social Media Claiming Lives?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Twenty-seven-year-old Edgar Garay was killed after he fell from a cliff in Puerto Rico last Sunday while attempting to film a social media video for TikTok. He is sadly among the latest person to be killed while trying to stage a perfect photo or video. A 2018 study conducted by Indian researchers from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences found that 259 people had died between 2011 and 2017 while trying to take "extreme selfies" with their phones. These have included falls from the tops of mountains, cliff sides, and even tall buildings; while others have been swept away by water currents, and more than a few were killed by wild animals. In one case, a pair of Russian soldiers had posed with a live grenade that suddenly went off, while a teenage Romanian girl tried to take an "ultimate selfie" from the top of a moving train only to come in contact with a live wire. How Will The Metaverse Change The Publishing Market?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Anna Belova, Founder & CEO of DEVAR , a Phygital Company. Forbes Under 30. Tech Entrepreneur. Expert in AR and Metaverse. It is relentless and inevitable that our world will change. These changes can please us, scare us, inspire us and surprise us. But they will still happen no matter our reaction. For change is like the elements—that is, it's not subject to human will. Take books, for example. The earliest complete printed book was published in 868. Since then, more than a thousand years have passed, but the essence and purpose of books have not changed. Famous Argentine poet and novelist Jorge Luis Borges was convinced that "books will never disappear. It is impossible for it to happen. Of all man's diverse tools, undoubtedly the most astounding are his books." But is this statement true now in the era of the metaverse, digital realities and artificial intelligence? Let's try to find out. … [Read more...] about How Will The Metaverse Change The Publishing Market?
Does ChatGPT mean the end of ‘thought leaders’?
Over the past two days, I must have had 20 conversations with people anxious about the impacts of AI on their work and livelihoods. Of course, I might have been seeking out those conversations because, as an academic and contributor to several business publications, I am also anxious! Creators, artists, coaches, programmers, doctors, writers, experts, and thought leaders are grappling with the implications of generative AI such as ChatGPT , DALL-E , and other advanced AI products on their jobs, passions, and income. On the one hand, it may seem like a dream come true. You can benefit from AI helping you work faster. Perhaps, better. On the other hand: So does everyone else and their hamster. Especially since it seems that anyone can look like an expert and creator with the help of AI. It can, after all, write a job application good enough to be short-listed, pass portions of the U.S. medical licensing exam and the bar exam , produce code , text, and sellable art … [Read more...] about Does ChatGPT mean the end of ‘thought leaders’?
How To Navigate The Flawed Job Market
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Day 3: Get to know the job market. This post is part of Forbes’ Career Challenge: Get Job-Search Ready In 15 Days . In 1987, Sallie Krawcheck secured a coveted job in investment banking on Wall Street. Shortly after she started, the 1987 crash followed. She found herself in a job she hated, in a cut-throat work culture she hated and in a time of crisis that exacerbated the problem. “I knew I didn't like investment banking. I didn't get it. I didn't enjoy it. I didn't love the work,” she said in an interview with Business Insider. In 1990, realizing this wasn’t the career she wanted, she started at Columbia Business School. Her goal in business school was to get out of financial services and switch to the media industry. According to plan, she landed a summer internship at Time, Inc. She was thrilled and excited at the prospect of working there full-time once the internship converted into a job. At the end of the … [Read more...] about How To Navigate The Flawed Job Market
Three Proactive Measures Employers Can Take To Prioritize Employees’ Mental Health
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Stephen Sokoler, Founder & CEO of Journey . With the pandemic bringing about one of the biggest workplace transformations ever—including remote work, greater employee expectations and a passionate and polarizing social and political climate—understanding the evolving needs of today’s workforce is essential. In a climate of quiet quitting, burnout and turnover, the knee-jerk reaction is to hone in on the part of the workforce fringing on disaster. However, even with benefits like employee assistance programs (EAPs), therapy and medical plans in place, HR departments may still be scrambling to find ways to appease their troubled employees and retain the quality staff they have. It turns out that mental health challenges could be driving much of the concern. Spending on disease-related medical services increased the most for mental health services out of all evaluated services between 2016 and 2019, … [Read more...] about Three Proactive Measures Employers Can Take To Prioritize Employees’ Mental Health
Black History, DEI, And Becoming A True Ally
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As we observe Black History Month, it’s a good time for businesses and individuals to reassess just how well they are living up to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace and to explore how they can improve. Studying history is one way to do that, even if the connection to DEI might seem at first glance tangential to what’s happening in your offices and conference rooms today. But really, when you think about it, it’s not that difficult to make the connection. The lessons we learn from history – or don’t learn because we are never taught them – affect us in many ways, sometimes including how others in the workplace see us. Just recently on my vlog , “Intentional Conversations,” I discussed this very subject with Emmanuel Kulu Jr., an author of historical fiction and founder of the Ancient African Antiquities Research Institute of America. Kulu made the point that when a … [Read more...] about Black History, DEI, And Becoming A True Ally
Roomba 694 Review: The Best Roomba For Daily Maintenance
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin An iRobot robot vacuum has been on my wishlist since the day I set foot in my first apartment. The thought of a little machine effortlessly whirring around my floor picking up dog hair and dust was too good to be true. Though there’s a time and a place for a stick vacuum , I excitedly accepted this assignment for a Roomba 694 review to put the gadget to the test using common messes found in my home. As the mom of a 17-month-old baby girl and a 3-year-old German Shepherd mix, there’s no shortage of messes in my house, so I wanted to see if Roomba’s most affordable robot vacuum was up to basic, everyday cleaning tasks. I wanted to test how well this robot vacuum could avoid cords, shoes and laundry without getting tangled in a mess, overheating and giving up. I put this vacuum cleaner to work over the course of six months and observed how it cleaned carpets, wood floors and tile. Though the Roomba 694 isn’t the … [Read more...] about Roomba 694 Review: The Best Roomba For Daily Maintenance
